How to configure iPad wireless settings during preflight

It’s important before each flight to properly configure the iPad’s wireless radios, especially when using a Bluetooth or WiFi accessory. This will help to both
maximize battery life and reduce the potential for interference with the panel-mounted avionics. Here are our recommended wireless settings for various iPad
and accessory combinations:
iPad with Bad Elf GPS receiver
iPad with Garmin GLO or Dual Bluetooth GPS
iPad with Stratus ADS-B/GPS receiver
3G/4G iPad when using internal GPS

Since setting Airplane Mode to “ON” disables interior GPS, that is the very reason I never set it to ON. Should the Bad Elf thinga-ma-jiggy fall out (and,
it’s a notoriously loose connection at best) I want a back up.
I’m a belt-and-suspenders kinda guy for flight safety.

Larry, almost all Bluetooth GPSs work with the iPad. I’ve flown with lots of them. I’m sure there’s one out there that’s unique though.

John My iPad won’t make a Bluetooth connection with my old obsolete Garmin 10 but I doubt anyone will be able to find a Garmin 10 these
days either except at a yard sale.

I am a WingX guy, and wonder why you don’t include WingX and the multiple ADS-B receivers that work with it. Your discussions are almost totally
Foreflight (great application)or Garmin (so-so). I would really appreciate more in-depth on WingX applications.

On my iPad2, after I turn airplane mode on, I then go to the General tab (under Settings) and turn Bluetooth back on. It works for me anyway …

I have a new I pad and wing x flight program. I bought a Dual GPS. When I first started using them together it was great. The GPS always connect and
has plenty green bars. The GPS also shows connected The wing x shows the GPS is on. The problem I have is getting the wing x to display the GPS
activity on the moving map now. Sometime the GPS at the top of the page goes off and on every 5 seconds for a minute or two then quits completely.
HELP. Is there someone I can call?

If you did not put the IPAD in “Airplane” mode–leaving the GPS on–while you also had a Bluetooth Dual GPS signal on and connected, which GPS
would be dominant?

I have a Blu Link system that I use to listen to music and make cell phone calls via bluetooth on my iPhone in a helicopter. Problems doing that?

No, that works well in helicopters for the most part, because you’re flying lower. Just be sure there’s no interference.

How about the iPad? Same for using in a helicopter.
