the behaviour of the rainforest’s plants, birds and animals ensuring
that every visit to the rainforest will be different.
Wet Tropics World Heritage Area
The Wet Tropics World Heritage area, also known
as the Daintree, is the oldest continually surviving
Tropical Rainforest region on earth. Dating back
more than 100 million years, they are internationally
recognised as one of the most ecologically
fascinating natural areas in the world.
Occupying 900,000 hectares, the Wet Tropics
account for approximately 0.26% of Australia’s total
land mass. Despite their relatively small size, they
are home to an amazing diversity of life, including
65% of Australia’s fern species, 30% of its orchid
species, 60% of its butterfly species and 50% of
its bird species.
World Heritage Protected
The Wet Tropics Rainforests were World Heritage
listed in 1988. The list recognises and encourages
the preservation of areas considered to be of cultural
or natural value to humanity, ensuring they are
preserved for future generations.

2. Provides outstanding examples of ongoing
environmental processes; 3. Contains the highest
quality of natural occurrences, or areas of natural
beauty; 4. Contains the most important natural
areas for the conservation of the variety of life.

Tropical Rainforest research and education projects. Skyrail donates a
percentage from each sale of merchandise in its retail stores to the Foundation;

charter. You can help - become a Skyrail Rainforest Foundation member or
