How to set up an EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System): you will need to create an account. However keep in
mind that you need to allow 7 days to receive your PIN in the mail (which you will need to login). You will not be
able to initiate a payment until you have your PIN.
Go to: https://www.eftps.gov/eftps/
Click the “enrollment” tab
Accept the Privacy Act and Paperwork Reduction Act and then enroll as an “individual”
Fill out all your personal information and then click “review”. Once you review that the information is correct, you will get an
enrollment number. Print this for your records.
ONCE YOU HAVE AN ACCOUNT SET UP AND RECEIVED YOUR PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER IN THE
MAIL:
TO MAKE A PAYMENT: go to www.eftps.gov/eftps and choose “make payment”

In order to make online payments: you will need to request an internet password
Fill in your social security number and the information from the letter that you received with your PIN on it and either your
banking information you put on the enrollment or the last eight digits of the Enrollment Number (which is located on the
letter from EFTPS).
You now will create a password: be sure to remember this password because you will need it to login each time to
make a payment
You then will be taken back to the login screen. Once you are logged in you will proceed with your payment. You will
choose “1040 US Individual Income Tax Return” from the drop down box and then click “next”.

On the next screen you will choose what you want to pay and then click “next”
If you are choosing to pay your estimated tax payments, the next screen will look like the following. You can set up all
your estimates at one time and choose the date that you want to funds withdrawn. Please be sure that the date you
choose is on or before the due date.

If you are paying a balance due on your return, your screen will look like the following. Keep in mind you can change the
date that you want the funds to be withdrawn. Make sure that it is on or before the due date!!!
You will then get to verify your payment information. Make sure everything is correct and then click “make
payment”
You will get a confirmation number on the next screen. Print this and keep for your records. Be sure to deduct the
amount you are paying from your check register.
