How to use the Prayer Guide

How to use the Prayer Guide
The bi-monthly Jericho Walls Prayer Guide provides information to intercessors and other believers to effectively
pray for revival and the unsaved peoples of the world. The Prayer Guide will help you to pray with focus and in
unity with people all over the world, no matter if you pray on your own, with a friend, or as part of a prayer group.
The pre-researched prayer information presented as daily prayer pointers, is used by about 200,000 praying
people. Prayer topics range from issues in South Africa, other countries or people groups in the world.
The Prayer Guide is used in different time zones. In using it you form part of a prayer army in God’s Kingdom 24
hours a day! The prayer points are presented in different formats. Some prayer requests will state statistics and
ask of you to pray for certain issues. Often the prayer information is presented as prayers written in the first
person, as if speaking to the Lord in prayer. Prayers are often taken from Scripture. The Prayer Guide will also
keep you up to date with the latest prayer events, national and international prayer initiatives, or other events that
will give a broader picture of what is happening in the prayer movement. Training opportunities like prayer
seminars, prayer schools, etc., are often included. As we receive feedback from the Body of Christ, we also
provide you with some of the breakthroughs that came because of the persistent prayer of Christians.
You are most welcome to send us prayer information for publication. The Prayer Guide is published bi-monthly.
Your information should therefore reach us 6 weeks prior to the first month of the publication of the issue you
want your prayer information to appear in.
Lastly:
• Use this information to pray during your own personal prayer times.
• Encourage other people to use the Prayer Guide.
• Consider to start a small prayer group and then use some of these prayer points.
• You are welcome to freely use any of the prayer topics in your church prayer bulletin and prayer meetings.

But God...
Dear intercessors
Global Day of Prayer: 4 June 2006 What God has done through the Global Day of Prayer has surprised us. Of
the 220 countries in the world, 198 participated in the day of prayer. Literally hundreds of millions of people were
involved in one way or another. The 10 days of day-and-night prayer prior to the day of prayer is winning favour.
People in many countries participated in this in large numbers.
In South Africa we know of at least 626 towns/cities that took part in die day of prayer. This includes with the
exception of only about 50 small towns, all the towns and cities in our country. There are more than 1,900 places
where people participated in the 10 days of day-and-night prayer. The feedback reveals that people gathered all
over in smaller groups, but that prayer times were much more intensive and people really encountered the Lord
personally.
All the prayers that go up before God’s throne, brings a new momentum in the prayer movement in not only our
country but worldwide.
Day-and-night prayer
What does the road ahead entail? May I say again: Extreme times take extreme measures. Changing a few
simple comfortable things does not change a country. We live in an extremely evil time, perhaps the most evil
time in history. This is true at least in terms of the general expansion of evil across the world.
When I read Scripture, it is clear that we have not made enough of day-and-night prayer and are still not making
enough of it. Scripture clearly reveals the command concerning day-and-night prayer. For too long this has been
ignored in the light of other, also important, things. Please read the following Scriptures prayerfully – ask the Lord
to speak to you understanding about day-and-night through His Holy Spirit.
• In the Old Testament, the fire on the altar had to be kept burning continuously: The fire on the altar must be
kept burning, it must not go out.. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offer on the
fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously, it
must not go out (Lev.6:12-13).
• A 24-7 prayer watch helps congregations to fulfill the command to be a house of prayer for the nations
(Is.56:7). A 24-7 prayer watch is one way in which congregations can take up their spiritual responsibility to
stand as watchmen on the walls of congregations, communities, cities, the country and the nations.
• God Himself puts us on the walls as watchmen to pray for the fulfilling of His promises: I have posted
watchmen on your walls, o Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give
yourselves no rest, and give Him no rest till He establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth
(Is.62:6-7) a) See how God Himself puts the watchmen on the walls; b) the watchmen much remain standing
before Him 24 hours a day; and c) the watchmen must never be quiet or give Him no rest until all His promises
are fulfilled. There are thousands of promises of God in His Word for us as His children. We only need to stand
faithful in the command of the Word and continuously pray for the fulfillment of these promises.
• In Lk.18:7 there is a powerful promise that God will bring us justice (correct what is wrong) if we call upon Him
day-and-night (crime, violence, corruption, poverty, drug abuse, immorality, unrighteousness, marriages and
HIV/AIDS): And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to Him day and night? Will he
keep putting them off?
• The letters of Paul are saturated with his day-and-night intercession for the church and the spreading of the
gospel.
• In heaven we see how angels and believers worship God the Father day-and-night with praise and worship and
live before Him face to face: Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all
around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: ‘Holy holy holy is the Lord God Almighty,
who was, and is and is to come.’ Whenever the living creatures give glory, honour and thanks to Him who sits
on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the
throne, and worship Him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: ‘You are
worthy our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will
they were created and have their being (Rev.4:8-11).
• Pray for this generation (our young people) to return to God and for God to raise up God-fearing men and
women who will live out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. The hearts of the people cry out
to the Lord. O wall of the Daughter of Zion, let your tears flow like a river day and night, give yourself no relief,
your eyes no rest. Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin, pour out your heart like water in
the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at the
head of every street (La.2:18-29).
The past 22 months were marked by the establishing of 24-7 prayer watches. We started out with 20 and
currently there are about 1,200 in South Africa. This is truly a supernatural happening and we are very thankful
about it. Something is starting to happen in the country. Let us pray and ask the Lord what He is saying through
His Spirit to the church so that we will be able to understand the season and times in which we live.
Christianity under suspicion
We read a lot about the Da Vince Code and since the launch of the book a film was also released. Together with
a few other things, the integrity of Christianity is at risk. These are a few comments concerning issues like these.
From the earliest times there were these types of assaults on Christianity and it will continue until the return of the
Lord Jesus. Read 2Th.2: 9-11 carefully: The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of
Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives
those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason
God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have
not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness. Look at the following: 1) many counterfeits, 2) people
who do not love the truth, 3) the fact that God Himself allows the lie and 4) the judgment that follows it.
How do we pray about things like these? First of all we have to pray for ourselves; for discernment and to hold on
to the truth and not to think we cannot be deceived ourselves. Secondly, we have to pray for God’s grace: grace
upon grace. Do not judge. We are saved by grace and therefore have to pray for God’s grace also for others.
Thirdly we have to pray for God’s righteousness without a judgmental heart. There must also be a hunger and
thirst after righteousness in our hearts (according to the Sermon on the Mount). Fourthly we must not be surprised
about these things. The whole of the New Testament warns us it will happen.
How do we remain standing? By developing an intimate, deep and personal relationship with the Lord Jesus
Christ. By understanding that He lives in us and always is with us. How do we know this? By faith only, never on
feeling or external facts or proof. Jesus historically lived, died and was raised from the dead. Jesus said to
Thomas: Blessed are those who did not see and yet believe.
Many are thinking that the Da Vinci Code brought a lot of ‘facts’ into the open. Yet, these ‘facts’ and research now
seem to be of the most incorrect research in history. There is enough literature available in bookshops and on the
Internet which explains these incorrect statements.
Still, our faith does not rest on this. Those having a living relationship with Jesus, have no doubt. In the sixties,
someone one day said to Dr. Billy Graham: God is dead. His answer was: It cannot be, I spoke with Him just this
morning! Stand with the truth of the Word. Everyone who has doubted or questioned the Bible through the ages is
already dead, but God’s Word is still there and people reading it, still come to salvation on a daily basis in their
tens of thousands. Their lives testify of a radical life change.
30 Day Ramadan prayer focus: 23 September – 22 October 2006
This call to pray for Muslims originally came during a meeting of several Christian leaders in the Middle East in
1992. These men and women strongly sensed God’s desire to call as many Christians as possible to pray for the
Muslim world. The prayer movement was planned to coincide with the Islamic month of Ramadan. The dates for
Ramadan are established according to the Muslim lunar calendar. In 2006 Ramadan begins approximately on 23
September, and ends on 22 October, although this may vary slightly from country to country. The fasting period
ends on the sighting of the next new moon, which occurs at the end of the 30 days.
Praying during the month of Ramadan does not mean that we conform ourselves to the Muslim practices of
fasting and prayer. Rather it allows us to identify ourselves with them by praying for them during a significant
moment of their spiritual lives. The goal of this Prayer Guide is to inspire and guide every reader to intercede for
the Muslim world. It is far from being completely informative about the Muslim world. However, each article will
give you some ideas about the needs of Muslims. We encourage you to seek further information to have a greater
understanding of the Islamic world and God’s activities among Muslims. We have put short prayer pointers in this
Prayer Guide. If you would like to receive the complete Ramadan prayer guide, we can send it to you via e-mail. If
you do not have access to e-mail or internet, please ask a friend to help you. You can contact us with your
request at [email protected].
Living a balanced life
We hear so much about a balanced life. For a Christian, this is an impossibility. Jesus says: if anyone would come
after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for me will find it (Mt.16:24-25). There is nothing ‘balanced’ to it to take up my cross and
walk to Golgotha. The cross eventually means death.
As Christians, our lives should constantly be changing until we become so Christ like that absolutely nothing of
self remains in us. Paul is an example of this lifestyle. Nothing in his life shows that he lived a balanced life. He
was totally, integrally, and radically a Christian. A Christian does not have ‘half measures’. It is all about Jesus
Christ and Him alone. Not about success or work satisfaction or a life of ‘significance’ or to leave a ‘legacy
’behind.
The life of a Christian should often be marked by persecution, loneliness, rejection, deep pain, unanswered
questions and prayers and a Christian’s forgiveness should be radical, his love unconditional and giving
sacrificially. For the Christian, the earth is temporary and heaven eternal. If I forget this, I will never live out my full
calling on earth purposefully. These days, we are often so earthly minded that we are not of heavenly use.
A Christian always burns the candle at two ends, but never for himself. Always for Him. My Utmost for the Highest

Eph.3:20
Pray the Word on the Word
Use this study guide over the following month to learn to pray the Word. If possible, try to pray this prayer at least
2-3 times a week. Pray it with your heart, spirit, with everything in you. Ask the Holy Spirit to burn the Word into
your heart until it becomes part of you and the way you think.
As you pray through these Scriptures, ask yourself the following questions:
What practical changes should come in my everyday life concerning that which I am praying?
What practical things can I do to express that which I pray? With which two people should I share what I have
learnt about this issue?
Practical guidelines and principles
I. To pray the Word on the Word is to pray from Scripture about what is in the Word (Bible/Scripture) about the
Word.
II. Use the Scripture prayer below as a point of departure to pray about this. When we pray these scripture
portions, it is also a proclamation of the Word, a confession of our faith in the Word and in the power of the
Word.
III.The Word helps us to understand what is possible for God to do. Lk.1:37 teaches: Nothing is impossible for
God. This can literally be translated: none of God’s words is without power. God is I am. This means, He can. I
am, is present tense, He is there every moment, working actively, giving life, creating life and recreating.
A prayer put together from different Scriptures
Father, Your Word teaches: In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God and the WORD was
God (Jn.1:1). By Your WORD the heavens were made (Ps.33:6) and You uphold all things by the power of Your
WORD (Heb.1:3). Forever, o Lord, Your WORD is settled in heaven (Ps.119:89) and You have magnified Your
WORD above Your Name (Ps.138:2). Your WORD is alive and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and
intentions of the heart (Heb.4:12). Your WORD is also like a fire, and a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces
(Jer.23:29). Your WORD is the SWORD of the Spirit (Eph.6:17) and every WORD that goes out of Your mouth
will not return to You void, but will accomplish what pleases You and prosper in the thing for which You sent it
(Is.55:11).
You, who reveal Yourself through your WORD (1Sam.3:21), open also my mind to understand the Scriptures
(Lk.24:45) and give me a Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know You (Eph.1:17). Your WORD is a lamp to my
feet and light for my path (Ps.119:105) and the entrance of Your WORDS gives light; it gives understanding to the
simple (Ps.119:130). Direct my steps by Your WORD and let no iniquity have dominion over me (Ps.119:133).
You have the WORDS of eternal life (Jn.6:68) and The WORDS You have given us is Spirit and is life
(Jn.6:63).Your WORD comforts me (Ps.119:15) and I live from every WORD that comes from Your mouth
(Dt.8:3, Mt.4:4). I have hidden Your WORD in my heart that I might not sin against You (Ps.119:11). Thank You
that Your WORD cleanses me (Jn15:3, Eph.5:26), and that my way will stay cleansed if I take heed according to
Your WORD (Ps.119:9). It is Your WORD that heals me and delivers me from destruction (Ps.107:20). So I hope
and put my trust in Your WORD (Ps.119:81,144).
The entirety of Your WORD is truth and all Your judgments endure forever and through Your Word I am sanctified
(Ps.119:160, Jn.17:17). Your WORDS are pure, like silver tried in the furnace of the earth; purified seven times
(Ps.12:7). I can trust You because Your WORD is proven (2Sam.22:31). Your WORDS are sweet to my taste;
when I found Your WORDS I ate them and they brought joy to my heart (Ps.119:103). Your law is perfect,
converting the soul; Your testimony is sure, making wise the simple; Your statutes are right, rejoicing the heart;
Your commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; Your
judgments are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them I am warned, and in keeping them there is great
reward (Ps.19:8-12).
Let Your WORD dwell richly in me so that I can teach and encourage others (Col.3:16) and overcome the evil one
(1Jn.2:14). As a newborn baby I desire the pure milk of the WORD so that I can grow spiritually (1Pe.2:2). Let the
hearing of Your WORD bring faith to my heart (Rm.10:17) so that I can please You (Heb.11:6). Lord Jesus Christ,
the Living WORD of God, You are the Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn.14:6). Let Your WORD abide in me, and I
abide in You, and I will receive what I ask from You (Jn.15:7).
Establish Your Word in our cities and nations, let it grow mightily and prevail (Ac.19:20). "All flesh is as grass, and
all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the WORD of the
Lord endures forever." (1Pe.1:24)

SPECIAL PRAYER EVENT
Ethnê to Ethnê - Unprecedented year-long prayer focus
The US Center for World Mission's Global Prayer Digest and Ethnê are partnering together to provide a year's
worth of daily prayers for the least-reached peoples on every continent from June 2006 through to May 2007.
Joshua Project is teaming together with Ethnê to identify the unreached (UPG) and least-reached peoples of the
earth within twelve geographical regions – one for each month of the year.
The launch of this unprecedented yearlong prayer initiative for one-fourth of the world was June 2006. The Ethnê
effort is working to see strategic harvest outreaches to the least-reached in each region of the world for the 90
days during and immediately following the month of global prayer. United prayer will open doors and fuel effective
outreach efforts throughout the earth.
The following are some suggestions for getting your church, cell, network or group involved in the world's largest
harvest-prayer effort in history:
1. Provide brochure that gives an overview of the emphasis to each member. The master brochure is available
under Resources section at www.ethne.net and permission is given to publish and distribute.
2. Video clips, audio clips, bulletin inserts, and prayer bookmarks on a monthly basis for each region's
least-reached peoples are available to download from the www.ethne.net Web site, as well as on the
enclosed DVD. These are in multiple languages with video subtitles (11 languages currently).
3. Network with your church's mission outreach and those you know who are working among UPGs
throughout the world. Let them know that a major prayer concentration is coming to their part of the world! Get
them to spread the word and also make requests for them to send stories about preparations and results from
work that is coordinated with the prayer emphasis to: [email protected].
4. Place an announcement or banner on your church's home page, linking it further to a page just for
recruiting involvement for Ethnê's Year of Prayer. Register your own commitment at [email protected] in
order to receive notices of new or updated resources.
5. Provide links on your Web site to the Global Prayer Digest so they can pray each day…or have them sign up
for a daily email version at: http://www.global-prayer-digest.org/dailydata/getdaily.asp?which=today.
6. Send out prominently placed news with your regular church e-mailings, linking them back to your Web site
for more information.
7. Make announcements whenever possible.
8. PRAY in church services, small groups, families, and individually.
Let Ethne know how you are going to be a part of this emphasis so we can help gain momentum as more and
more people realize this is a truly global thing. You can also communicate and ask questions via e-mail at
[email protected] or www.ethne.net.
The Children’s prayer network South Africa
The Children’s Prayer Network in South Africa’s vision is to motivate, mobilize and equip all the children of SA to
pray. They offer practical workshops for children at schools, churches etc. to equip, inspire and train them. The
workshops are based on the “Boiler Room” model. The age groups targeted range from 7 years up. In addition
they continuously develop materials to aid parents and children's workers to teach children to pray. They also
partake in prayer initiatives of Transformation to help change communities in South Africa. Area facilitators were
appointed in February and will be mobilizing children’s prayer initiatives in their areas. Gerhard Botha, P.O. Box

An online sponsorship program helps provide new Bible translations
Bible translation is very expensive. The Seed Company has put a 'One Verse' sponsorship program online. Every
amount sponsored helps a translator to do Bible translation in their mother tongue language. The money is also
used to buy the necessary equipment for the translation work. A group of young people was so inspired, that they
decided to sponsor these verses for a specific people group! (Mission Network News, 13/4/06. Web

What is the "Expansion Ministry" of Campus Crusade for Christ, SA?
Campus Crusade for Christ is an interdenominational, international mission organisation, active in 190 countries,
with 27,000 full-time missionaries in basically all types of ministry. One of the targets of the Expansion Ministry of
Campus Crusade for Christ is to help provide each person in SA with another chance to make the choice for
Jesus Christ. Expansion Ministry concentrates on the JESUS Film (already translated into 924 languages) and
Church Resource Ministries (working in partnership with churches by providing training in evangelism, effective
follow-up and the building of multiplying disciples).
Marketing group supplies a practical solution for funds: When a person SMS the word film to 36836, the
donor immediately receives a SMS to say thank you and the Expansion Ministry receives the donation. Cost per
SMS, only R5. By investing in this project, indirectly, you become part in the fulfillment of the "Great Commission"
(Mt.28:18-20). (Campus Crusade for Christ, JESUS Film & Church Resource Ministries. P.O. Box 52908,

Feedback on Global Day of Prayer
Global Day of Prayer on the Doulos
Prayer meetings, both big and small, take place on board Doulos almost every day. However, for the first time, the
entire crew participated in this year's Global Day of Prayer. Local Thai believers were also invited to attend, and
part of the meeting was dedicated to praying for Thailand. To make the intercession truly global, different
crewmembers shared prayer needs from their home countries. As the meeting came to a close, the ship's
company and their Thai guests united in a congregational prayer - one that was prayed in many countries
throughout the world on this same day. (OM Ships International Currents, 15/6/06. Email: [email protected]).
Dutch Reformed Church Wellington
The estimated number of people visiting the Boiler Room (prayer room) would be more than 1500. At times we
had people waiting when there were more than 20 people in the Boiler Room. One church leader testified that he
came to the Boiler Room after every evening service to thank the Lord. Churches experienced that there were
significantly more people attending their services during this period of time. You could go to the Boiler Room at
any time of the day or night and you would always find more than one person in worship and prayer. In Wellington
in general, every church testified that they experienced an extraordinary move of the Spirit. Numbers of more than
800 people attending the church services at night were recorded.
Fish Hoek Baptist church youth ministry
We held a Boiler Room event on Sat 3rd June from 9am – 5pm. The day was very special, young people came to
pray and to offer up intercession for their own relationship with God, their families, their friends and those whom
they have never met before! As usual, the interactive style that the Boiler Room offers made the day fly by
engaging their hearts and minds fully. It’s definitely something we will do again in the near future now that they
know it’s certainly not your average kind of prayer meeting!
