3. ARRIVAL AT THE COMPETITION CENTRE
The competition centre is located in Hakunila sports park in Vantaa northeast of the intersection of Ring Road
III (Kehä III) and Lahti motorway (jukola.com/2012/en/yleista/sijainti/). The competition centre will be opened
on Friday 15.6.2012 at 10:00am.
Easy to reach via public transportation
It is recommended to use public transportation for reaching the competition centre. There are local buses
from multiple locations within capital area. Please look at the time tables at HSL journey planner at
www.jukola.com/2012.

Times are estimated travel times. Please reserve enough time for the travel. It is your own responsibility to be
ready to start your leg in time.
There will be additional buses during the competition days. Line 68X operates from Tikkurila railway station to
the crossing of Hakunilantie and Hevoshaantie (about 400 meters from the guide pole in the competition
centre) and back to Tikkurila every 10–20 minutes from Saturday 16.6. 10:00am to 00:30am. On Sunday
17.6. line 68X operates from Hakunila to Tikkurila between 8:00am and 13:00pm every 20 minutes.
The bus stops of the lines 62, 87 and 562 are located at the shopping centre of Hakunila from which it is
about 1 km to the guide pole via walkway. The bus stops of the other lines are located at the crossing of
Hakunilantie and Hevoshaantie, next to the Hakunila swimming hall, from which it is about 400m to the guide
pole.
Regional single bus ticket from Helsinki or Espoo and a two-zone extended regional ticket from Kerava costs
4,50€. A single night ticket between 2:00am4:30am costs 6,00€.
Vantaa internal single bus ticket (e.g. from Tikkurila) costs 2,70€. A single night ticket between 2:00am–
4:30am costs 4,00€. You can purchase tickets from the bus driver.
The club buses drive to the competition centre for unloading and loading according to the bus signposting.
The signpostings begin from Lahti motorway and Porvoo motorway before the junction of Ring Road III (Kehä
III) and from Ring Road III (Kehä III) before the junction of Lahti motorway. Signposts will be in place from
Friday, June 15, at 7:00am onwards and they must be followed.
Arrival with bicycle, moped or motorbike
It is easy to reach the competition centre via bicycle, moped or motorbike. The street address of the
competition centre is Luotikuja 1, Vantaa. The signposting starts at the centre of Hakunila. There is a
designated parking area having a solid base and it is approximately 600m from the guide pole. Parking for
bicycles, mopeds and motorbikes is free of charge.
Arrival with cars
Please be prepared for a traffic jam and book enough time if arriving with a car. Please note that there will be
a long walk to the competitor centre from the parking area. All cars approaching via highway 5 are advised to
take Mikkeli-Kouvola-Porvoo route in order for traffic and parking go as smoothly as possible.
Arrivals from west are directed to the parking from Ring Road III (Kehä III) (road n:o 50) at Tikkurila. Arrivals
from east are directed to the parking from Porvoo motorway (E18/7) via Ring Road III (Kehä III).
Arrivals via Ring Road I (Kehä I) and Lahti motorway (E75/4) northbound from Helsinki are directed to Ring
Road III (Kehä III) via Porvoo motorway. Arrivals from north via Lahti motorway are directed to the parking
from Kerava junction to Sipoo Öljytie (148) and further to Porvoo motorway and to Ring Road III (Kehä III).
The signposting begins for arrivals

– from east on Porvoo motorway around Kulloo

– from Helsinki and from Ring Road I (Kehä I) on Lahti motorway before Porvoo motorway junction
The signposts will be in place from Friday June 15th at 10:00 onwards and they must to followed.
All cars must be parked in the parking areas according to the instructions given by the event officials. Parking
fee of 10€ will be collected and program booklet will be distributed upon arrival. Please reserve exact change.
Keep the parking ticket clearly visible on the windscreen inside the car until you exit the area. A parking fee is
payable each time a vehicle enters the parking area.
Please note that there is an area parking ban in Hakunila and Itä-Hakkila and intensified control of the
parking. Please use only parking lot provided by the officials. Incorrect parking causes a safety risk.
Parking for for disabled visitors with disabled parking permit on the windscreen may use Media signposting
(starting point for signposting is the crossing of Hakunilantie and Hevoshaantie). Parking fee of 10€ is to be
paid at the Info.
Cars with VIP and media parking permit will be directed to a designated, own parking area. Only pre-posted
parking permits entitle the driver to use this parking. Please keep the permit clearly visible on the windscreen
upon arrival.
Follow strictly the signposting and the signs given by the parking personnel. There are several parking areas
and they will be filled according to the plan. The distance from the car park to the competition centre is about
1000 – 2000 meters. Transportation for camping and lodging gear will be organized from the parking areas.
Note: Do not leave any valuables visible in the car!
Note: Sotungintie is closed from traffic between Friday 15.6.2012 at 16.00pm – Sunday 17.6.2012 at
18.00pm.
Traffic information concerning Valio-Jukola will be broadcasted in the radio on YLE Radio Suomi channel (in
the capital area 94,0 MHz) and at the competition centre and its nearby surroundings on Jukola radio channel
107,2 MHz.
Campervans and caravans
If you are arriving with a campervan or caravan you must register yourself and pay the parking in advance
according to the instructions given in the competition invitation. Those who have paid the parking will be
mailed parking ticket and instructions via email prior to the event.
Campervans and caravans must follow the signposting when arriving. The signs for campervan and caravan
parking area have an additional picture of a caravan. The parking will be directed by the parking personnel.
Keep the parking ticket clearly visible on the windscreen inside the car until you exit the area. Follow strictly
the signposting and the signs given by the parking personnel.
The parking area is open from Friday 17.6. at 10:00am onwards. There are drinking water tap and toilets. No
electricity and no septic tank disposal is provided. The distance to the competition centre is 100-500 meters.
Campfire and barbequing is prohibited outside the campervan / caravan. It is forbidden to lower the shields
and to use front tents. You must pay attention to the safety distances between vehicles.

4. SAFETY AND EMERGENCY
In case of emergency:
Accidents: Contact first aid point nearest to you (see First Aid).
Serious incidents: call first aid station tel. +358 50 4440 276 and act according to the instructions below:

In case of fire in the competition centre or in the parking area: act according to the instructions below. Inform

In case of fire in the terrain: act according to the instructions below.
If you notice a fire:
1. Rescue people at risk
2. If possible, limit the fire (fire extinguisher, fire blanket)
3. Call 112
4. Guide fire department to the location
Disorders: Contact the closest safety guard or call the Security tel. +358 50 5252 357. If the situation is
threatening, call 112. Do not put yourself or others at risk.

FIRST AID
The first aid station with a doctor is located in the building with changing rooms next to the running track in the
competition centre.
There is also a first aid tent next to the changeover and finish area. The sign for first aid is a white cross on
green background.
In the terrain there are two first aid points during Venla relay and three first aid points during Jukola relay.
These are marked on the competition maps.
Closest pharmacy is located in Hakunila, Laukkarinne 6. It is open on Friday until 20:00 pm and on Saturday
from 8:30 am to 16:00 pm. On Sunday it is closed.

SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES
Take good care of your valuables. There are Safety Deposit boxes near the washing facilities (420 boxes,
payment method cash or bank card excluding Visa Electron). You can store your valuables and other
equipment safely in these boxes during the competition. The property is then protected from weather and
from losses.
USE OF FIRE
It is strictly forbidden to make an open fire in the competition centre and in all camping grounds inside and
outside of the tents except at places separately marked as campfire sites. It is also prohibited to use camp
and gas cookers, gas grills and tent stoves. Obeying these instructions is controlled.
SMOKING
There is an unconditional smoking ban in the competition centre based on the law.
Consumption of own alcohol is forbidden in the competitor centre.
5. PREPARING FOR THE COMPETITION
INFO
Info is located in the competition centre next to Jukola Gate. Handing out team material and returning of maps
is taken care by Info. There are also training maps for sale.
INFORMATION BOARDS AND GUIDANCE
General information board and guide pole are located close to Info. There are boards and signs as guidance.
COMPETITION MATERIAL AND TEAM COMPOSITIONS

TRAINING AND MODEL ORIENTEERING
The model orienteering is located to the north of the competition centre. The printed map, course markings,
control descriptions and control setup equal the ones used in the competition. Maps are sold at Info
(5€/each).
Competition maps containing all controls are sold at the Information stand from Sunday 17.6. at 9:15 am
onwards (5€/each).

RUNNERS BANK
There is a Runners Bank available on Valio-Jukola internet pages
(.jukola.com/2012/en/kilpailuinfo/suunnistajapankki/) where teams can seek runners to replace missing team
members or a person without a team can seek a team for him/herself.
SERVICE TENTS
Service tents of the clubs may be set up at pre-booked tent sites assigned by the event officials (see
Competition instructions). Camping in the service tent ground is forbidden.
FORBIDDEN AREAS
Forbidden areas in the competition centre are marked with fences and signs/tapes (see also chapter
Forbidden areas in the Competition instructions). Only competitors running their leg may enter the

competition terrain. It is also forbidden for the public to enter the competition terrain. Trespassing on the
forbidden areas may cause disqualification of all teams in the club.

6. FOLLOWING THE COMPETITION AND PROGRAMMES
FOLLOWING THE COMPETITION AND PHOTOGRAPHING
Starts, changeovers and finish can be viewed and photographed in the competition centre in an area
reserved specifically for spectators. In the competition centre there are video screens showing telecasting
from the competition centre and from the terrain. Top teams’ progress is followed up with GPS devices.
Competition speakers can be listened to in the competition centre and its surroundings in Jukola radio
(frequency 107,2 MHz). The speakers are during the competition Aki Tuovinen, Antti Örn and Linus Hoffman.
At other times they are Ville Virtanen, Jaana Jaatinen, Tom Sundbäck and Wolfgang Pötsch.
TV AND RADIO
Live broadcast on TV is on YLE TV2 channel. Venla relay is shown on Saturday at 13.40–17.30 and Jukola
relay on Saturday from 23.50– to Sunday approximately 7:00 am. In addition, there is a summary of Jukola
relay on Sunday 17.6. at 16.00–18.00. In internet both relays can be followed up from start to end as live
(yle.fi/urheilu).
Live broadcast of both relays on radio is on YLE Puhe channel (in the capital area103,7 MHz).
TV speaker is Jussi Eskola with an expert Pekka Nikulainen. Radio speaker is Pertti Tapola with an expert
Seppo Väli-Klemelä.
PROGRAMME AND PRIZE GIVING CEREMONIES
Opening ceremony and Jukola flag-rising take place at the festival stage on Saturday at 13:00. Jukola
ceremony and prize giving for Venla relay start at the festival stage on Saturday at 19:45. Prize giving
ceremony for Jukola relay and handing over Jukola flag take place at the festival stage on Sunday at 9:30.

Forest church is located in Håkansböle country house park approximately 500 meters from the guide pole.
It is organized by Hakunila Lutheran Parish. There is a mass on Saturday 16.6. at 17:30. Liturgist is Helsinki
bishop Irja Askola. Free entrance.
Guided tours in Håkansböle country house are organized on Saturday 16.6. at 18:30 and at 21:00. It is
approximately 500 meters to the country house from the guide pole (follow the signs for the Forest church).
The tour takes app. 1 hour. Free entrance.
CHILDREN
Children’s world is located at Ponihaka stables approximately 300 meters from the guide pole. Activities take
place both inside and outside. Please note that unfortunately the place does not suit to those allergic to
horses. There is for example an action course, crafts, small café and an area for baby care. In addition, there
are pony walking and magician shows. There is a fee for some of the activities. There is also orienteering
available (from easy to medium) on Saturday at 11:00-19:00. The map costs 5€/ child including a small prize.
There is no babysitting in Children’s world.
Besides the Children’s world baby food can be heated up next to the restaurant. The places are marked with
a baby bottle symbol.
Each Handicapped toilet contains also a potty and a table for changing diapers. They are located in public
toilet area, at bus U-turn point on Sotunki road, in First Aid station and in Ponihaka. These places are shown
on the guide map.

INVITED GUESTS AND MEDIA
Reception for the invited guests takes place in the Invited guests lounge. Accredited media is welcomed in
the media tent (see www. jukola.com/2012/media).
7. FOOD AND DRINKS
There are a restaurant, cafeteria, five grills, ice cream stands and a beer tent which serve competitors and
spectators. In addition, there are a café, fish stand (vendace and salmon) and a waffle stand operated by
Rannikon sotilaskotiyhdistys. There is also a small café in the Children’s world. The opening hours can be
found in Chapter 2/page 2.
All food is delicious and low lactose. The family line in the restaurant offers also non-lactose, milk-free and
gluten-free meals. On Friday the food selection is limited. Coffee and other cafeteria products can be
purchased at grills and at ice cream stands.
You can pay with cash or with most commonly recognized bank and credit cards (see Bank and Post).
Largest accepted bill is 50 euros. Most convenient is to provide the exact amount.
The rush hours at the restaurant are around the starts and after Venla finish. It is advised to avoid the rush
hours.

DRINKING WATER
There are eight drinking water stations in the competition centre and in the accommodation areas. They are
marked on the competition centre map. There are water taps also in the start/warm-up area and after the
finish. It is forbidden to wash sport wear in these drinking water stations. Sport wear may be washed only at
the equipment washing point near the showers.
8. ACCOMMODATION
Competition centre is opened and signposting to camping is in place from Friday 15.6. at 10:00 onwards.
Take good care of your valuables as this time we are not in the middle of the forest! The use of open fire, gas
grills, camp and gas cookers etc. is strictly forbidden.
TENT GROUNDS
Camping near the competition centre takes place in pre-reserved, numbered camping sites. There are
several different camping sites and two different sizes of tent places: 10m x 10m and 5m x 5m. Tent places
are marked with numbers in the terrain. The reserved tent places can be viewed at Valio-Jukola internet
pages, on information boards of tent sites and at Info. If available, free tent places can be purchased at the
Info.
TENTS SET UP BY ORGANIZER (RENTED TENTS)
Pre-reserved tents set up by organizer are located in several areas. Most of the tents are north from the
competition centre on the other side of Sotungingtie, approximately 500-800 meters from the guide pole.
Tents are numbered with a number banderol on the centre pole. The reserved tent places can be viewed at
Valio-Jukola internet pages, on information boards of tent sites and at Information stand.
FLOOR ACCODOMATION
Floor accommodation is located in Hevoshaka school approximately 1000 meters from the guide pole. People
who have reserved floor accommodation need to bring their own sleeping gear (mattress and sleeping bag)
and towels. There are toilets available in the school premises, but showers may be used only in the
competition centre (500 meters from the school). It is strictly forbidden to walk in shoes inside the school,
especially in orienteering shoes, or wash them in the school premises! The floor accommodation places can
be seen in the entrance hall of the school, on the class doors and at the Info. The floor accommodation is
available from 10:00am on the booking day (Friday or Saturday) onwards.
9. OTHER SERVICES
JUKOLA SHOP AND POSTAL SERVICES
Jukola shop offers official Jukola products from shirts to pins. Also postal services are available including post
cards with Jukola’s own post office stamp and postage stamp.
BANK SERVICES
Restaurant, Jukola shop and Info accept cash and major bank and credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Visa Debit,
Debit MasterCard, VPAY, Visa Electron, Maestro and Business Eurocard. Biggest accepted bill is 50 euros. If
you have bigger bills you can exchange them at the Info. There is no foreign currency exchange or possibility
to withdraw cash in the competition centre. Closest ATMs are located in Hakunila at following addresses:
Laukkarinne 4 (Hakunila shopping centre) and Kannuskuja 2.
PHOTOGRAPHING
You can have an official photo of your team taken at Jukola 2012. Our partner Rajala Pro Shop/ Kuvalo has
set up this service and the group pictures are taken at the competition center. You can make a reservation of

the shooting time in advance from the internet site jpeterf.schedulething.com. There are also pictures taken
during the race at certain points.
All pictures are available from a commercial internet gallery later on. Look for the pages
www.kuvalo.com/jukola. You may search with your club name or individual number. You may purchase
readymade prints (various sizes) or just your picture file.
TAXI
There is a taxi stand located on Sotunki road and it is marked on the competition centre map. Telephone
number for ordering taxi is 0100-7300 (price 1,16 €/call + 0,16 €/10s + local call fee).
TOILETS
There are 300 lavatories and 20 urinals in the competition centre and in camping grounds. They include hand
disinfection liquid. There are six handicapped and baby care toilets. They are located in public toilet area, at
bus U-turn point on Sotunki road, in First Aid station and in Ponihaka. All these are marked on the competition
centre map.
SHOWERS AND SAUNA
Washing area with showers and sauna is located next to the swimming hall, approximately 400metres from
the guide pole.
The sauna is warm from Saturday from 14:00 hrs until Sunday 17:00 hrs. The sauna is reserved for women
on Saturday between 14:00 – 23:00 hrs and for men for the rest of the time. Sauna fee is 2€. The sauna ticket
can be purchased from the Info or paid at the sauna in cash. A seat cover is included in the fee.
A separate washing possibility is reserved for men during Venla relay and for women during Jukola relay.
Next to the washing facilities there is a recycling point for clothes you may want to through away.
SWIMMING HALL
Hakunila swimming hall is open during the entire competition including the night between Saturday and
Sunday (see Chapter 2 Opening hours). The entrance fee for adults is 5€ and for children 2,50€. Please
leave your dirty shoes and clothes outside the swimming hall.
WASHING SPORTS GEAR
There is a separate washing point for sports gear close to the showers and sauna.
BATTERY CHARGING
You may charge your phone or computer with your own charger at the Info for a fee of 10€/h.
LOST AND FOUND
All found items should be taken to the Info. Lost items can be asked from there during the competition. After
the competition found valuables are handed over to the police.
WASTE DISPOSAL
Jukola respects the nature. You may not litter the environment and you are responsible for sorting out your
waste.
Next to the restaurant there are containers for bio waste, cardboard and energy waste. Bio waste includes
leftover food and paper napkins. Cardboard includes paper plates and paper cups, liquid containers of

cardboard and other cardboard products. Energy waste includes for example plastic boxes and plastic
wrappers.
In the camping grounds waste is sorted out into containers for bio waste and energy waste or into energy and
bio waste bags handed out together with the team material.
Glass, metal and dump ground waste must be delivered to the main waste collection point next to the
restaurant. Bottles with a deposit and all metal cans may be placed into transparent collection bags which are
available at start, sauna, beer tent, camping ground for rented tents, service tent area and next to the grills.
Plastic bottles without a deposit belong to the energy waste. There are guides at the main waste collection
point and at the waste collection point next to the restaurant. The main waste collection point is marked on
the competition centre map.
Energy gel wrappers or other waste may not be thrown into the terrain. They must be delivered to the waste
bins at the drinking stations or in the competition centre.
10.
ENVIRONMENT
One of the core values of Valio-Jukola is the respect of environment and nature. By planning well in advance
and co-operating with environmental authorities, land owners and hunting clubs we ensure that the
competition does not have harmful effect on species or on terrain.
We all – event officials, competitors and public – are responsible for protecting the nature.

FORBIDDEN ACTIONS
It is forbidden to advertise or sell any products or services in any part of the competition area including
accommodation areas, parking areas and competition centre without a written permission from the event
organizer. Advertising other orienteering events is allowed only on a bulletin board reserved for this purpose,
located next to the Info.
It is absolutely forbidden to use radio phones operating on VHF frequencies in the competition centre area.
Based on the Finnish law it is forbidden to smoke in the competition centre area. Also consumption of own
alcohol is forbidden in the competition centre area.
It is strictly forbidden to make an open fire in the competition centre and in all camping grounds inside and
outside of the tents expect at places separately marked as campfire sites. It is also prohibited to use camp
and gas cookers, gas grills and tent stoves.
DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR DEPARTING WITH CLUB BUSES
1. Once all the people and goods are in the loading area, the team leader contacts the event official next to

2. The official calls the bus according to the number given by the team leader and informs the team leader
about the bus stop number. After this the team moves together to the designated bus stop and the bus
gets permission to come for the pick-up. It takes approximately 10-15min for the bus to arrive from
Vuosaari harbour.
3. Upon leaving the parking place at Vuosaari harbour the bus driver receives a numbered driving
permission including the number of the designated bus stop. The bus will be guided to the correct bus

stop according to the number on the driving permission. Buses coming only for the pick up on Sunday
17.6. need to follow first the signposting to Vuosaari harbour to receive a parking number. Without the
parking number and the driving permission received from the harbour, the bus may not pick up the
team.
4. Buses must be loaded quickly.
