PAINTMASTER
ELECTRIC ROTARY AIRLESS PAINTER
Model 215-508
For Home and Farm Use
Your new PAINTMASTER providesaneven coat of
paint with a minimum of fuss. Most skin-free, stirred
paints can be used as they pour from the can, without
thinning.
When flow control is properly adjusted, several vertical
passes will provide an even pattern of paint, a t a width
of your choice from 1/ 2 to 1 8 ’ . TheWarnings
speed of painting
surpasses brushesandrollers
on most applications,
especially on rough textures and odd shapes.
Clean up is simple, with the PAINTMASTER which provides a flushing action to most parts. Quick wipe up
finishes the job.
Write your PAINTMASTER‘S serial number in the box above. The
serial number is on the top of theknob. Keep this information for use
in case of theft, or if service is needed,

BEFORE PAINTING
Please read all the instructions. The basic instructions
on page 3 tell how to
operate the.PAINTMASTER, while
the Helpfull Hints on pages 4 and 5 give'youthefine
points to know for various painting jobs. Be sure to
follow the cleanup instructions on pages 6 and 7.
For,painting chairs, shutters, toys and the like, spread
papers or plastic a few feet out from all sides of the
painting area. Hangalargesheet
of paper or plastic
behind the object to catch the paint that misses the obiect being painted.
Practice painting on paper beforestarting your first project. Once you learn how to use the PAINTMASTER,
you can do a better job in less time than with a brush or
roller. But, it does take some practice. Hangup a piece
of paper and spend afew minutes practicing on it while
you adjust the PAINTMASTER and learn how it
handles.
Always paint in a well ventilated area, even with latex
paint.
Before painting aroom,cover
or removeeverything
that is not to be painted, including airducts. The
PAINTMASTER atomizes somepaints into a mist which
gradually settles. Water base latex paint mist usually
dries before it gets on anything.Oilbase paint dries
more slowly. Either way, clean up is much easier if you
cover everything first.

Don't thinthe paint. Try painting with it first. The
PAINTMASTER applies almost all paints without thinning.
Before stirring the paint, remove any skin
that may have
formed. Stir thepaint slowly and thoroughly to dissolve
hard pigments. If the paint was mixed in a shakerat the
store, wait 30 minutes for air bubbles to escape. Air
bubbles will cause low paint output.

HELPFUL HINTS
Adjusting The Flow Control
proper adjustment is very important. Take the time to
findthesettingthat
gives you desiredseveral-pass
coverage.
The proper output setting will be slightly different for
each paint that you use. Once you find the proper setting, you can leave it there until the job isdone, but a
change to a different coloror type of paint may require
readjusting.
To find the
proper output setting:Close the flow control
(turn theknobclockwise). While painting onpaper,
gradually open the flow control (turn counterclockwise)
and watch how the pattern coverage changes.
Don't turn theknob toofast. When the pattern
suddenly gets much heavier you have found the proper output
setting.
To paint trim and narrow edges, close the gate as needed to narrow the pattern. Keep moving a t the same
speed.
Paintlng Ceilings
To Daint a ceiling. install the plastic ceiling adapter. It
reaches to the bick of the paint cup so you can paint
longer before refilling. Remove the splash guard from
the cup. Pour paint into cup to a level 1 in. 125.4 mm)
below the projection inside cup. See illustration below.
Point the adapter towards PAINTMASTER handle and
push onto riser tubeuntilthe endof thetubejust
touches the bottom of theadapter. Don't push it on too
tightly.
1 inch
125.4 mml
When painting with latex paint, use the setting found
for proper output only. Turning the knob past this setting pointmay give you a ragged or irregularpattern; to
correct this just close the flow control and readjust.
When painting smaller objects or using oil base paint,
reduce flow to allow slower movement and better control. Begin the same way, with the flow controlclosed.
Adjust to the desire flow.
Painting Walls
A good way to paint a wall and avoid extra motion isto
paint it in sections about 4 feet high and 4 feet wide.
Holding PAINTMASTER 8 to 10 inches from the wall,
paint the top half of wall first, then the bottom half.
When painting the
ceiling, make sideto side passes, not
forward and back. At the wall, turn the PAINTMASTER
about 90° right or left, then straighten for next pass.
This avoidsthe tendency to tipthe PAINTMASTER too
far back. Hold the PAINTMASTER as near the ceiling as
possible.
Be careful near the bottom of the wall to avoid tipping
the PAINTMASTER too far forward. Paint that normally
drains back into cup can run out the sliding gate opening when tipped too far forward. Also near the top of
the wall avoid tipping backwards as disk can pick up
paint and cause spattering.
Make up and down strokes as shown in box 5 on page
3. Start your stroke, then squeeze the trigger. Having
the PAlNTMASTER in motionwhen squeezing the trigger avoids putting excess paint in one spot and possible
runs or sagging. Also, release
the trigger just before the
end of the stroke.

Painting Outdoors
When painting outdoors, the less wind and sun, the
better. Wind makes it hard to control the pattern and
can carry wet paint where you don't want it. The hot
sun can dry the paint too quickly, even causing a dry
pattern in some cases.
When paintinga fence, put paper or plasticbehind it to
catch excess paint that misses the fence.
Painting Furniture and Other Objects
When painting an object such as a wooden stool, hang
some paper or plasticbehind to catch excess paint. Partially close the sliding gate to narrow the pattern.
Painting With Oil Base Paint and Stains
Oil base paint needs no thinning. Reduce the flow rate
to get a finer pattern when painting furniture or trim.
The lower flow rate will also give you better control.
Plan to paint the object from several directions to get
even coverage on all surfaces.
Masking is important, especially when using slow drying paint. Latex mist will be dry when it settles, but oil
paint mist will still be wet. Clean up is much easier if you
cover everything first.
Reducing the flow rate will let you move more slowly for
better control.
When paintingsmall objects, let the pattern gopast the
For clean up, use enough solvent to clean thoroughly.
Use normaly recommendedsolvents such as turpentine
or mineralspirits, but avoid volatile solvents such as
gasoline, naphtha, lacquer thinner or shellac thinner.
NOTE: Clean up latex paint with soapy water only.
DON'T use flammable fluids for clean up.
General
Maintain the PAINTMASTER with care. Keep it clean
for best and safest performance.
Disconnect when not in use. Don't leave it plugged in
edge. Trying to stoprightat the edge will cause a
buildup of paint which may sag.
and unattended. Close the sliding gate when not painting. Leave the flow control full open.
Painting floors with the PAlNTMilSTER is not recommended.
Before repainting a glossy surface, dull it with a fine grit
sandpaper. If the old paint is left glossy, the new paint
may run and sag.
You may have trouble applying latex paint over oil base
paint, lacquer, waxed or greasy surfaces. These may
cause voids or ridges in the paint, called fisheyes. To
correct this, clean the surface thoroughly and use an oil
base paint.

NOTE
Before installing the gates, look at the catches on the
white gate and the pins in the motor housing. They go
together as shown below.
The catches have 2 notches. The pins go in 1st notch.
Don't try to force them into the2nd notch. The 2nd notches allow catches to "give" for easy engaging.
Install the white gate a couple of times without the
orange gate, to get used to it.
Be sure the motor housing
and pins are free of any dried
paint which might interfere with installing the gate.
3eassemble disk, valve housing and augerin the reverse
xder from disassembly, steps 3 and 4.
Put a drop of household lubricating oil ona paper tissue
and wipe a small amount onto the metal threads of the
auger.
