We have the upcoming: Winter Camp on the 10-12th August, Mirage on the 18th August, Parcel II on the 16th September, and many more! Impact had also launched their first peer-to-peer event, where instead of sitting down listening to speakers talk, we can be involved too in the topic being discussed. This month, our Inspire theme is “Fishers of Men”. Going into the heart of our “One Mission” theme of the year, we have prepared so many things up to this point, because of this sole purpose, which is to minister to other people and mobilise them to Christ. One of the amazing characters that I personally love about my God… is that He is the God who does not look for people who are great, i.e. president of the US. But He is the God who looks at who we really are. He accepts all our strengths and weaknesses. And get this… He wants us to work for Him and He believes that we can be as great as Him. He sees the great potential in us that even we can’t see. He only asks 2 simple things from us, and that is faithfulness and obedience. Before Jesus left the earth after His resurrection, this is His 1 and most important commandments. Become fishers of Men, that every knees will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. So let’s kneel down and pray. Make the commitment to God that we, as the ambassador of Christ, can spread the good news and create more disciples of Christ. We, the Inspire team, truly hope that this month’s INSPIRE will be a blessing to your life. Happy Reading! 3 Christ’s call to His disciples to follow Him and to become “fishers of men” reminded me of the them of this year “One Lord, One Heart, One Mission”. Why? because that is what Christ’s call really implies we must have if we are to become fishers of men. However does this really apply to us? Is every Christian expected to be actively involved in sharing their faith in Jesus Christ? Or is this just for those, like pastors, who have a special calling to serve the Lord? It is true that the call to become fishers of men in the first instance only applied to Christ’s disciples as the lord called them to leave their nets behind and to follow Him. However Christ’s closing address in Mathew 28 no longer just referred to His disciples but to all His followers, and that means you and I are included. We hear Him say to us “THEREFORE GO!” “YES!” We are called to start fishing for men and women, young and old, and proclaim the Good News of the Gospel. Christ’s command “TO GO” is critical in this context. It is His call for us to become active! We are commanded to go out just as Jesus and the early apostles did. We cannot wait for someone to come to us, just as we do not wait for a fish to miraculously appear out of nowhere without any effort on our part. Have you ever gone fishing with rod and reel? If you have you will know that fishing requires a great deal of patience. It can be frustrating to just stand there and not even get a bite. And unless you go to the right spot at the right time you will not catch a single fish. In fact many a fisherman returns home empty handed. Fishers of Men / AUGUST 2012 4 PASTORAL LETTER But an interesting thing does happen in that many little fish are caught, to small to eat. This reminds me that the Good News of Jesus and His love touches little children and the young (students) far more readily than it does the older adults. May we patiently and prayerfully keep on fishing for the souls of the lost regardless of age and spread the message of salvation. May we heed the words of the Apostle Paul as he affirms what it means to be a “fisher of men”, I have made you a light for the gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth. Ps. Pieter Petrusma “I have made you a light for the gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth” Fishers of Men / AUGUST 2012 5 IMPACT - PEER TO PEER This month has marked a significant chapter in Impact’s history. On July 11th, the usual Wednesday monthly talk event was replaced with an event that marked the launch of the Peer to Peer Interest Group with a totally new and fresh concept. field of work, but areas that you enjoy exploring and come naturally out of each person. What is Peer to Peer Creative Art and Design Peer to peer is an Impact program where members can share their knowledge and expertise to fellow members in their area of interest. The audience was then divided into individual interest groups to discuss how to best move forward with the group. BY EMMANUEL SETYAWAN separately on a day and venue agreed by its members. Participation is open to anyone who share common interest to any group mentioned above. Joining the group itself is FREE, however, depending on the meeting place, a small contribution might be requested to help pay for the venue (if necessary). Getting Involved If you find yourself interested in the group mentioned above, simply register your interest through www.impactmelbourne.org and one of Impact’s team will be in touch with you in a few days. Each interest group meets 6 PRAYER CORNER BY INGRID HARTMAN Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. (John 21:3 NLT) PRAYER POINTS THIS MONTH 1. Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. (John 21:6 NLT) Simon Peter was a fisherman, he knew everything about fishing. However, the Bible mentioned that he and the other disciples caught nothing at all. Through this story, Jesus wants to remind us as His church about the importance of listening to God’s voice and obeying His command rather than using our own strength and expertise in doing the ministry. Without His guidance and direction, our effort will result to NOTHING. But, with His guidance and direction, OUR EFFORT WILL NOT GO IN VAIN. Fishers of Men / AUGUST 2012 2. 3. and peace. Our cell group is called M.A.D. Generations -> Making a Difference Generation. Youth cell group is the same as our typical cell group that we have in MPC. The difference for our cell group is that we focus on teenagers, i.e. high school students, 1st to 3rd year of University. What (why) make you want to start this youth cell group? God has given the growth in our church. And there are many families and children in MPC. At that point, we saw there was a growth in families and thus the need for the 2nd generation. The 2nd generation are our children growing in Australia as a local, who speaks English and has Australian friends. So this is an opportunity for our church to reach out to the local (Australian) people. We, who now live in Melbourne, even though we come from different backgrounds, cultures, Australia is now our home and we love this country. Australia for God!! Our Mission: We aim to make a difference in the community in our family, school, and to our friends. We do this because we are madly in love with God. How did the cell group get created? We pitched the idea to the leaders and they agreed to create this new youth cell group. So we started with a Wednesday cell group, with 7 of us in the cell. When is the cell group held? Praise God, we are now able to have a Friday cell group, same as the other cells. Who can join the cell group? Mainly teenagers – Anyone within the age of 13-19. But we’re open to anyone who’s young at heart. What expectations do you have from the members? We want for them to encounter God, be changed by Him and be shaped from their early age, to become leaders of their generations. Fishers of Men / AUGUST 2012 22 Jeremy Prisi Youth ministry is always full of excitement and laughter. It usually starts off with a game, then continued by the worship and prayer. The great thing about youth ministry is that this is where we can share our happiness and joy together. Each person also has to share about their week and later brother Jaizen and sister Livia continued on with the topic they had prepared to share. I joined youth cell group because I want to submit to the authority. I have the conviction in my heart that this is where I can serve God more at this point and I want to obey Him. I enjoy being in youth cell very much. One of the most unforgettable moments in youth cell was when brother Jaizen had to do sit ups for losing in Jenga game. I learned a lot of things each week and I applied what I have learnt from youth ministry each week to my everyday life. I also paid attention to mom’s and dad’s behavior and attitude and learn from them. The one thing that I want to do more in youth cell is to seek more and know more about God. Being in this cell group, it’s a journey. When I was asked to join this youth cell group, there was reluctance in my heart that I wanted to stay in my old cell. But when I prayed for it, I had the feeling in my heart that confirmed me to go to youth cell. Then after that I learned that this ministry started because of love and so this is the reason too that I’m joining the cell. This is an opportunity to love other people, especially the youth. It’s a privilege that I was invited to join the cell group and I’m excited to see and experience what God will do to the youth generation. A little sharing about my baptism too. The baptism to me is following what Jesus did. From foundation class I know that it is a commandment that God wants us to obey. The thing that makes me take the big decision in my life is that I am ready to step ahead. After the baptism I felt very different, totally like a new person. I also felt a lot of significant changes before and after the baptism. Since the baptism I listened more to mom and dad teachings and follow their behavior and attitude.
