To participate in the Festival:
a) To submit films for consideration by the Festival Film Selection Committee, the easiest method
is to send us a DVD, along with the attached information sheet once it’s been properly
completed.

c) The deadline for receiving the preview DVD is JULY 29th.
d) SHORT FILMS:
The Film Selection Committee will only take into consideration shorts that comply with the
following conditions:
• LIVE ACTION Short Films:
ONLY FANTASTIC GENRE. Production year 2010/11.
• Official in-competition Fantàstic Selection (SOFC):
Shorts that haven’t been released in Spain (although shorts shown on the Internet will be
accepted). Shorts will be screened in professional format.
• Official Fantàstic Panorama Section (SOFP):
Shorts can be included here that haven’t been selected for the SOFC due to the rules or
assessment reasons, but that are considered to be interesting for the Festival’s program.
• Nova Autoria Section:
Send preview DVD’s directly to the SGAE’s Barcelona office through your school. The shorts will
be screened in professional format.
• Brigadoon Section:
Shorts shot in amateur format. In this case screening will always be in DVD.
• ANIMATION Short Films:
ONLY FANTASY GENRE . Production year 2010/11.
• Anima’t Section:
Animation shorts that haven’t been released in Catalonia (although shorts shown on the Internet
will be accepted). The Selection Committee reserves the possibility to select advertising, promo or
music video works it considers to have sufficient artistic and cinematic value as short films, as long
as they are thematically related to the Festival’s specialization.

1.
The SITGES Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya is a specialized, competitive
fantastic genre Festival in accordance with FIAPF regulations.
2.
The Festival consists of the following sections:
- Official Fantàstic
- Seven Chances
- Official Noves Visions
- Midnight X-treme
- Anima’t
- Brigadoon
- Retrospectives and Tributes

Official Fantàstic Section. All films whose content or subject matter can be considered to belong to
the fantastic genre are eligible to participate in this section. There will be in-competition films (SOFCin-competition official Fantàstic section) and out-of-competition films (SOFP-official Fantàstic
Panorama section). The jury’s decision will not be open to appeal and no prize can go unawarded.
An international jury, named by the Festival’s management, will present the following awards:
- Best Motion Picture
- Best Production Design
- Best Director
- Best Sound
- Best Actor
- Best Original Soundtrack
- Best Actress
- Best Visual Effects
- Best Screenplay
- Best Make-up Effects
- Best Cinematography
- Best Fantastic Genre Short Film
By popular vote, the audience will hand out the Audience Award to the Best Fantastic Genre
Feature Film. The films with a chance of winning this award are the ones included in the SOFC and
SOFP.
In addition, the Carnet Jove Jury, made up of young people between the ages of 18 and 30, will
present the Jurat Jove Award to the Best Fantasy Genre Feature Film. The films with a chance of
winning this award are the ones included in the SOFC.
The inclusion of films in this section is restricted to films produced in 2010/11 and that have never
premiered before in Spain. However, the Festival reserves the right to program, as an exception, films
previously screened out of official competition at other Spanish Film festivals.
This section includes a subsection for short films produced in 2010/11 with runtimes of no more than
30 minutes. Those selected for the SOFC must be unreleased in Spain (although shorts shown on the
Internet may be accepted).
The SOFP may include shorts that haven’t been selected for the SOFC due to the rules or to
assessment reasons, but that are considered to be interesting for the Festival’s program.
4.
Official Noves Visions (New Visions) Section. Includes narratively, conceptually or visually
innovative fantastic genre feature films. This section is subdivided into: Fiction, Non-Fiction and
Discovery (independent works). An international jury presents the award for Best Motion Picture in
each of the three categories. The competition is restricted to productions from 2010/11 that have never
premiered in Spain. However, the Festival reserves the right to program, as an exception, films
previously screened out of official competition at other Spanish Film festivals.
This section contains a subsection for short films by Catalan Film School students grouped under the
name Nova Autoria (based on a pre-selection by the participating schools). The selected shorts, in
collaboration with the SGAE, compete for the following awards: best screenplay, best director and best
music.

Anima’t Section. Includes animated feature films produced in 2010/11 that have never premiered
before in Spain.
This section also includes a subsection for short films produced in 2010/11 with a runtime of no more
than 30 minutes. The selected shorts must be unreleased in Catalonia (although shorts shown on the
Internet will be accepted). The Selection Committee reserves the possibility to select advertising,
promo or music video works it considers to have sufficient artistic and cinematic value as short films,
as long as they are thematically related to the Festival’s specialization.
An international jury will hand out awards for: Best Animated Short Film and Best Animated
Feature Film.
6.
Seven Chances Section. Seven feature films, related to the Festival’s thematic area, selected in
collaboration with the Associació Catalana de Crítics i Escriptors Cinematogràfics (Catalan
Association of Film Critics and Writers). They all must be unreleased in Catalonia and have no
commercial distribution in Spain at selection time.

Midnight X-treme Section. A selection of the best independent horror movies. The films in this
section have a chance of winning the Midnight X-treme award, presented by the Carnet Jove Jury.
The competition is limited to films produced in 2010/11 and that have not previously premiered in
Spain.
8.
Brigadoon Section. Alternative DVD screenings of the weirdest, most radical fantasy cult-movies. A
jury will present the Paul Naschy’s Brigadoon Award to the best amateur fantastic short film.
9.
“Casa Asia” Award. All films produced by Asian companies in 2010/11, included in any of the
Festival’s sections, as long as their subject matter falls within the context of popular genres (thriller,
action, fantastic), are eligible for this award. Animation is not included. All films must have never
premiered previously in Spain. The Festival Selection Committee reserves the right to assess these
criteria.
10.
Citizen Kane Award to the Best Up-And-Coming Director. All the filmmakers presenting their first
work in the in-competition Fantàstic or Noves Visions sections (except those included in Noves
Visions-Discovery) are eligible to compete for this award.
11.
Méliès d’Argent Awards. Awards given to the Best European Fantastic Feature Film and the Best
European Fantastic Short Film included in any of the Festival’s sections and according to the Selection
Committee’s nomination. The winning feature film and short will have a chance to win the Méliès d’Or
Awards, organized by the EFFFF (European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation).
12.
“José Luis Guarner” Critic’s Award. Award presented by the Associació Catalana de Critics i
Escriptors Cinematogàfics (Catalan Association of Film Critics and Writers) for the Best Motion Picture
included in the Fantastic or Noves Visions sections.
13.
The production company or distributor of the selected films will receive the entry form and a proposal
from the Management for the section, day and time of its screening for approval. The production
company or distributor will promise to fill in and send the entry form to the Festival 40 days before the
Festival starts. In the event that the Festival must share the print with other festivals, it must be
specified on the entry form, indicating the copy’s availability during our Festival’s dates.
14.
The company lending the film must provide the Festival with promotional material: stills, posters,
press-books, trailer, etc., so the Festival can promote the film adequately. In addition, the company
must also provide the Festival with the appropriate material to subtitle the film, if necessary. The
Festival reserves the right not to return this material.
15.
Each 35 mm print reel must have a clearly visible identification label with the following information:
title, runtime and reel screening order.
16.
The Festival will not accept prints that do not meet the minimum screening requirements.
17.
The Festival will cover shipping expenses for the prints to be screened, unless the print needs to be
sent to another Festival. In this case, the other Festival must pay for shipping costs from Sitges to
the city of destination.
18.
In the event that a print is damaged as a consequence of its screening at the Festival, the owner must
inform the Festival within one month of the date the print was returned at the very latest. The
Festival’s responsibility will not exceed the cost of making a new print, according to the rates in force
at laboratories for making a standard print.
19.
The Festival organization will decide each film’s screening dates and times. No film included in any of
the Festival’s sections will be screened more than 5 times, including press screenings, without the
owner’s previous consent.
20.
As regards the recording of film excerpts for promotional use on television programs, the Festival will
act in accordance with F.I.A.P.F. regulations for specialized competitive festivals.
21.
The Festival accepts all F.I.A.P.F regulations for specialized competitive festivals.
22.
Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of these Regulations.
23.
Any matter arising during the Festival which is not covered by these Regulations, will be decided on by
the Festival organization in accordance with international rules.
