Introduction The G4500 Portable BLACKBOX accurately measures power parameters, and in order to comply with Elspec’s quality standards of excellence, prior to shipment each unit is calibrated at an accuracy rate that exceeds IEC-61000-4-30 Class A standards. At Elspec we understand the need for maintaining this accuracy level during the product’s life-time and use, whenever it is required to do so. We therefore included the calibration and adjustment capability through a Telnet interface in the many design features of the G4500 Portable BLACKBOX. In addition, calibrations for custom clamps and the I5 channel calibrations may be achieved by utilizing Elspec’s Internal Website. In this document we explain how to calibrate and adjust your G4500 Portable BLACKBOX in your facility. Figure I: G4500 Portable BLACKBOX Calibration II. Calibration and Adjustment Procedure For your convenience Elspec has created specific Telnet commands for the calibration and adjustment procedure. It explains how to calibrate AC/DC Voltages as well as AC current. The calibration for the neutral phase (VN) precedes all the other calibration procedures (V1, V2 & V3). The procedure includes: Neutral Phases preceding AC Voltage AC Current DC Current DC Voltage DC Current PT 100 The G4500 BLACKBOX is designed to simultaneously sense each voltage and current channels in two measurement ranges. Referred to as “Low” and “High”, the ranges deliver the most accurate readings among a whole measurement range from a very low value up to an “over” voltage and current range. 3 Introduction | The process runs automatically, and it actually adjusts the internal measurement coefficients should the detected measured value be out of the designed accuracy boundaries. The principle of the adjustment process is a two stage process: 1. The source equipment (calibrator) is being configured to deliver a stable predefined voltage and current values at a maximum accuracy, 2. The internal software of the BLACKBOX’s automatically runs the actual calibration and adjustment procedure. This is done via the Telnet interface which in itself requires “expected value” variables to be defined in advance. The names and values of the parameters are defined by including them in brackets i.e.: {variable name or value}. The first step of each calibration procedure is to establish these variables. Then specific commands are applied to the variables to direct the specific calibration process. All other commands contained within these procedures are static and cannot be changed. Simultaneously, the correlating variable values are entered onto the calibrator itself in the “Waveform menu”. These values may differ according to the calibrator type that you are using. In this document Elspec is using a standard signal generator. III. Getting Started Prepare the following items in advance, before you start the procedure: G4500 Portable BLACKBOX that needs to be calibrated AC Voltage leads AC Current clamps DC Voltage leads DC Current Clamp PT100 Sensor Calibration Instrument: You may use any device that measures up to the IEC standards, with a minimum voltage rating of 1000 volts, and current output of at least 20A). You now need to connect the G4500 unit via TELNET: Select: Start→Run:telnet(UnitIP) Enter User Name: PQ4xx Enter Password: PQ4xxPQ4xx For your convenience, you may also find the unit’s IP via Elspec Search (according to the unit’s serial number). You will now need to connect the G4500 BLACKBOX to the calibration instrument with the relevant cables (for each calibration category). Set the following configurations on your BLACBOX unit: Frequency – the Nominal frequency should be 50/60Hz according to your calibrator frequency Topology - Wye 4 wire PT and CT – disable all PT’s and CT’s Ratios 4 Getting Started | IV. Voltage Calibration In order to maximize the calibration accuracy for the device, we recommend establishing Low and High voltage ranges to calibrate the voltage inputs. Use values 300V and 750V respectively. These are also the specified voltage values outlined in the G4500 BLACKBOX Device specifications. All Phase voltages are calibrated referring to Neutral and the Neutral terminal, and it is calibrated with reference to the Earth. Therefore if we want to rely on the accuracy of the phase voltage calibration, we recommend that you first calibrate the Neutral input. It is recommended (not a prerequisite) to open the Monitoring page on the web interface of the BLACKBOX unit, in order to simultaneously monitor the Voltage & Current RMS, and Waveforms during each step of the calibration process: Open the Elspec’s Search Utility & locate your BLACKBOX via the devices’ serial number, and access your device via the WEB. Select “Monitoring”, “Waveforms”: Figure 5: Internal Website – Monitoring Waveforms Page IV.1 Voltage Neutral Calibration The following procedure will demonstrate how to perform both a Low and High Voltage Neutral Voltage Calibration. Repeat the procedure twice: once for the Low voltage and once for the High voltage. Note: Every time you calibrate the Low value, you will need to calibrate the High value. In addition ensure that you are working on an official version. Calibrating the Neutral Voltage Low: 1. Set the Signal Calibrator Voltage at 300V RMS 2. You now need to connect the G4500 BLACKBOX to the calibration instrument with the relevant cables. The Neutral connection is unique and differs from the other connections. Connect the phase and ground cables to the device as demonstrated below: L1 in the calibrator to L1 in the device L2 in the calibrator to N in the device Ground to Ground Figure 6: Voltage Neutral Calibration 6 Voltage Calibration | 3. In the Telnet menu define and set the parameters. The Telnet format reads as follows: {variable name}=(float)value 4. Define the low voltage parameter by entering: VLow=(float)300 Figure 7: VLow Value Assignment 5. Please be patient until you receive the “Calibration success, results…” message. This will be followed by a success screen confirming Low Range Neutral Voltage calibration: Figure 9: Calibration Success 7 Voltage Calibration | Calibrating the Neutral Voltage High: 1. Once again set the Signal Generator Voltage at 750V RMS 2. In the Telnet menu define the high voltage parameter by entering: VHigh=(float)750 Figure 10: VHigh Value Assignment 3. Initiate the High Neutral Voltage Calibration by entering: CalibrateVoltageNeutralHigh VHigh Figure 11: Calibration of the High Neutral Voltage Command This will be followed by a success screen confirming Low Range Neutral Voltage calibration: Figure 12: Calibration Success 8 Voltage Calibration | IV.2 Voltage Phase Calibration To calibrate the phase voltages: Once the Neutral has been calibrated, then we recommend calibrating the phase voltages for both the Low and High values. All phase voltage calibration for L1, L2, and L3 are calibrated simultaneously. As in the Neutral calibration procedure, Phase calibration is performed in two separate phases; first the Low Voltages followed by the High Voltages. The variable names can inherit new values for each procedure therefore it is not required to establish new variables. 1. Set the Signal Calibrator Voltage at 300V RMS 2. You now need to connect the G4500 BLACKBOX to the calibration instrument with the relevant cables. Connect the phase and ground cables to the device as demonstrated below: L1 to L1 (Red to Red) L2 to L2 (Yellow to Yellow) L3 to L3 (Blue to Blue) Ground to Ground (Green to Green) Earth to Earth (Black to Black) Figure 13: Connection for the Voltage Phase Calibration Cables Note: The phase voltage indicators light up when phase inputs are properly connected. 3. As you have already defined the High & Low voltage parameters in the Telnet menu during the Neutral phase calibration, the Telnet memory will recall these values. It is not therefore necessary to reset these values again. Directly initiate the simultaneous V0,V1,V2 & V3 low range calibration by entering the following command: CalibrateVoltagesLow (VLow) 9 Voltage Calibration | Figure 14: Calibration of the Low Range Voltages Command When all phases will be completed, it will be followed by a success screen confirming the calibration for the Low Range Voltages: Figure 15: Calibration Success for the Low Range Phase Voltages 4. Repeat the process for the simultaneous high range calibration V0,V1,V2 & V3 by entering the following command on the Telnet screen: CalibrateVoltagesHigh (VHigh) 10 Voltage Calibration | Figure 16: Calibration of the High Range Voltages Command When all phases will be completed, it will be followed by a success screen confirming the calibration for the High Range Voltages: Figure 17: Calibration Success for the High Range Phase Voltages 11 Voltage Calibration | V. Current Calibration We calibrate the current inputs by injecting the voltage and current simultaneously. The voltage channel reading is required for PLL synchronization, and it would be enough to establish only one phase voltage during the “current adjustment” process outlined below. The current values required are directly dependent on the upper and lower limits of Elspec’s clamping device (refer to Table 1). In addition, you may also use your own custom clamps and the upper and lower limits of the clamps are dependent on the products’ specifications. The use of a turn coil is usually necessary to multiply maximum current limits of the calibration instrument. It is important to make sure that each clamp is calibrated to a unique phase and labelled accordingly (I1, I2, I3 and IN). Switching clamps and phases may result in inaccurate calibration. As part of the procedure, you need to calibrate each clamp to each current input for both Low and High current values respectively. You may use the same assigned variable name throughout the entire procedure and re-assign its value. The “I1-4” series current calibration is done individually, and as in the Neutral calibration the Telnet system will recall the “ILow” float value as soon as it has been assigned. Note: Ensure that the cables are connected to the appropriate channel on the back of the BLACKBOX as outlined in step 1 above before entering commands in the Telnet Menu. Initiate each calibration separately by entering the following command individually in the Telnet Menu individually. As in the low range, the “I1-4” series current calibration is done individually; the Telnet system will also recall the “IHigh” float value post-assignment. Initiate each calibration separately by entering the following command individually in the Telnet Menu individually. The calibration is done via the Telnet. The only difference is you’ll need to configure very few settings in the web interface of the BLACKBOX. Note: Ensure that you enter the clamp current values for the upper and lower limits according to the products’ specifications. The procedure below describes the I1-4 current calibration for a common 300Amp custom clamp. 1. Attach the current clamp you wish to calibrate, to the appropriate current input on the G4500 Portable BLACKBOX (I1 for I1 calibration; I2 for I2 calibration; I3 for I3 calibration; IN for IN calibration). The G4500 will automatically recognize your custom clamp. 2. The blue indicator light will light up to confirm a solid connection Figure 31: Connection Confirmation (Blue Light Indicator On) 3. Select “OK” to conclude the configuration (Fig.37a). Each clamps has 3 ranges to calibrate all the ranges, set the hardware range in the web interface of the BLACKBOX: Select the range from the drop down box (a) Select “Apply Changes” (b) as per example below: Figure 38: Internal Website – Hardware Range Setting Custom Clamp 10. Define the low & high current clamp value as 5% of the selected Hardware Range for the Low Range and 50% for the High Range. 11. Repeat steps 5-10 outlined in the “V.1 Calibrating the I1-4 Currents - Elspec Clamps” chapter above for each of the remaining channels. 23 Current Calibration | V.3 Calibrating the I5 Elspec & Custom Current The I5 channel differs from the I1-N channels, as it measures the DC current with only 1 Hardware Range. Follow the exact same procedure as the custom clamp calibration; simply stipulate the hardware range in Elspec’s internal website interface, as per figures 32-37. V.4 Calibrating Current Phase Clamps - Elspec Clamps The phase calibration is an interactive process The calibration angle is 0° The amplitude is clean sinus (no harmonics) Please mind upper\lower case letters. The procedure includes phase calibration for each clamp for I1, I2, I3, IN channels To perform phase calibration: 1. For the phase clamp calibration each clamp has a value assigned to it as per Table 2 below. Select the appropriate value for calibration according to the clamp value. As in the “Current Clamp Calibration”, attach the current clamp you wish to calibrate, to the appropriate current input on the G4500 Portable BLACKBOX (I1 for I1 calibration; I2 for I2 calibration; I3 for I3 calibration; IN for IN calibration). 24 Current Calibration | 3. In addition, you will also need to assign a variable for each current measurement. The variable is equal to 10% of the maximum current being measured (Refer to Table 2). BOTH STEPS are repeated 5 times per clamp – and *PRECEDES each Frequency Calibration for I1, I2, I3 & IN channels. 5. In the Telnet menu set the Phase Clamp Calibration Angle command for each clamp as per the clamp ID (Table 2). For example- below you will be setting the phase clamp calibration angle clamp 1-6 Amp Model 1: Prm_Set_Clamp_Phase_Correction_Enable 1,0 Figure 41: Phase Clamp Calibration Angle Setting - Mini Clamp 1-6 Amp Model 1 Note: The last part of the command (1,0) can be defined as: 1 – Clamp ID 0 – Disable Phase Correction 25 Current Calibration | 6. There are two Frequency Ranges – 50 Hz & 60 Hz. You will need to set both frequency ranges in the I1 calibration for the clamp. Set the first Frequency Range by entering in the Telnet menu: Manuf_I1_Phase_Calibrate Step,50 Figure 43: I1 50 Hz Frequency Calibration 8. The Telnet window will now prompt you to reset the current on the calibrator as instructed. (Elspec uses a standard Signal Generator). You may use any calibrator for the Telnet calibration: 26 Set the Frequency Range at 50 Hz on your calibrator. Change each current to the appropriate Amp on your calibrator as instructed by your Telnet Menu prior to each prompt BEFORE entering “y”. At each prompt type: y followed by the Enter Key Current Calibration | Figure 44: I1 Prompt for Amplitude Change – Telnet Window 27 Current Calibration | 9. In order to complete the calibration for this particular clamp (Mini Clamp 1-6A Model 1) at 50 Hz, repeat Steps 1-9 for each channel I2, I3 & IN 11. Set the second Frequency Ranges in the I1 calibration for the clamp, by entering in the Telnet menu: Manuf_I1_Phase_Calibrate Step,60 Figure 46: I1 60 Hz Frequency Calibration 12. Again the Telnet window will prompt you to reset the current on the calibrator as instructed. 28 Set the Frequency Range at 50 Hz on your calibrator. Change each current to the appropriate Amp on your calibrator as instructed by your Telnet Menu prior to each prompt BEFORE entering “y”. In order to calibrate the remaining channels (I2-IN) repeat steps 5-13 above. Replace I1 with I2, I3 & IN, for each respective channel. V.5 Current Phase Calibration - Custom Clamps The calibration process above outlines the calibration for Elspec Clamps. As with the other custom clamps, you may calibrate your clamps for I1, I2, I3, & IN channels, by using the Telnet with minor adjustments in the BLACKBOX web interface. Note: Read the product specifications for your custom clamps, to establish calibration angle, current variable, I/V Ratio, & Frequency Range. Procedure outlined below describes calibration for a common 300 Amp Flexi Clamp. 1. Connect the applicable current clamp to the appropriate current input on the G4500 Portable BLACKBOX at the desired channel. The blue indicator light will light up to confirm a solid connection. You will now need to set the clamp settings: Enter the Current / Voltage Ratio (as per clamp specifications) in the I/V Ratio text boxes (a), Select “Apply Changes” (b) as per example below: Figure 53: Internal Website – Clamp Current Settings 31 Current Calibration | 6. Select “OK” to conclude the configuration (Fig.54a). Should you wish to calibrate additional clamps, you will need to repeat the process for the remaining clamps & for all five channels. In the Telnet menu set the Phase Clamp Calibration Step command for each clamp as per the clamp specifications. (Refer to table 3 for the clamp ID for each channel & calculate the step value as per your product specifications). For example- below you will be setting the phase clamp calibration for your 300 Amp Flexi clamp for the I1 channel. The Telnet window will prompt you to reset the current on the calibrator as instructed. 33 Set the Frequency Range at 50 Hz on your calibrator. In order to calibrate the remaining channels (I2-IN) repeat steps 1-11 above. Replace I1 with I2, I3 & IN, for each respective channel. 13. Telnet window will prompt you to reset the current on the calibrator as instructed. Change the Frequency Range at 60Hz on your calibrator. Again repeat previous step & enter at each prompt type: y followed by the Enter Key 15. You have now to repeat the process for the remaining clamps, for all five channels and frequency range. Once again refer to your product specifications for the calibration angle, current variable, & frequency range. VI. Auxiliary DC Voltage Calibration The G4500 Portable BLACKBOX contains auxiliary VDC(+) and VDC(-) voltage inputs. To calibrate the DC voltages, Elspec recommends establishing a low and high voltage range as the BLACKBOX device contains high and low ranges. It is also our recommendation to use values: 100VDC and 500VDC respectively, in order to achieve maximum calibration accuracy for this device. By establishing these values and calibrating the device accordingly, the Portable BLACKBOX is calibrated according to specified specifications for the device. Calibrating DC Voltage: 1. PT 100 Temperature Calibration Temperature calibration is achieved with any standard PT100 temperature Sensor. The calibration is simple and easy to conclude in the Telnet menu.
