Women’s Volleyball
The Mount Mystics Women‘s Volleyball team finished the semester with a perfect record of 7-0.
Ranked 10th in the country, Head Coach Derrick Brooks is pleased with the team‘s play so far but
is determined to help the team grow to their full potential. The team has a solid lineup boasting
both senior and younger players. Captains Carla Smith, Haley MacDonald and Andrea Melanson
are excited about the team‘s potential and future. The team is deep with talent and are
travelling to Quebec in early January to play some of the top teams in the country. Transfer
students Meaghan MacDougall, Kelcie Levesque, Chanelle Preradovich, Robyn Hollohan and
Megan Smith have contributed to the team‘s success plus sophomores Kristyn Melanson,
Amanda Taylor, Kelly Smith and Taylor MacDonald are making an impact too. The rookie class of
Kate Melanson, Shenia Keith and Victoria McArthur are exciting players to watch out for. This is
a great team with a bright future.

Men’s Basketball
The Men's basketball team just keeps on rolling. Eight wins and no loses have them placed
number one in the ACAA standings at the Christmas break. Fifth year player Luke Reynolds, 4th
year players Kenneth Reardon and Todd Williams have stepped up and into new leadership roles
with the team and as a result picked up right where they left off last year with no team
in the ACAA showing they can beat them. Reardon in particular, has shown great poise running
the team out of the point guard position and has also been able to set personal bests in assists,
minutes played and points per game. The depth of the men's basketball team and it's
commitment to defence have been the backbone to their early success. On any given night the
coaching staff can count on twelve committed players to put the work in and end up with a win.
The team would like to thank everyone for their on going support at the games and hope to see
everyone out supporting them at the third annual Dyrick McDermott Invitational and the second
half of their season.
Women’s Basketball
The Women's basketball team heads into the Christmas break with a 7-1 record with their only
loss coming to the reigning ACAA champions, St. Thomas University. With seven new players in
the line-up this year, fourth year players Chelsea MacKay and Ann Conrod have been able to
provide the consistent leadership and experience to enable the team to have early success. The
coaching staff put an emphasis on defence early in the season and the team has
responded. Christina Brien has been solid on the defensive end, usually matching up with a key
player from the opponent's team and she also leads the team in total rebounds and offensive
rebounds. Laura Himmelman, rookies Kara Hayes and Taryn Oakley have also provided great
energy and unselfish play on the court for the team. The team will be back in late December to
prepare for 3rd Annual Dyrick McDermott Invitational, held Jan 6-8, 2012. The team would like to
thank everyone for all their support and look forward to seeing everyone in the gym in the New
Year.
