Datanet’s authSMTP - How to set up Datanet’s authSMTP service
for
Outlook, Windows Live Mail & iPhone

YOUR EMAIL SETTINGS – THIS IS NOT AN ALTERNATIVE TO MICROSOFT EXCHANGE
Datanet’s authSMTP service has been designed for our customers to send email when they are
working away from their usual ‘static’ environment without having to utilise web based mail services
such as Google Mail or Yahoo. If you have Microsoft Exchange do not change any settings without
discussing with your IT Support
Datanet’s Managing Director, Conleth McCallan said, “For our own benefit we recently introduced
an authenticated SMTP relay for outbound mail. I found this quite useful for my personal PoP mail
as hitherto if I was roaming away from the Datanet network I could not send email through the host
WiFi or 3G service.”
Datanet, in common with most ISP’s, will only accept SMTP mail originating from a Datanet IP range
as we were not authenticating SMTP and need to identify the originator. So we have now
introduced an authenticated SMTP associated with a Datanet PoP mailbox. This means that if you
want to send email no matter who you are connected with, so long as you have a Datanet PoP
mailbox, you can use those login credentials to send mail through our Authenticated SMTP
(authSMTP) server. Datanet PoP mailboxes are free with any broadband connection provided by
Datanet.
This service has been specifically designed for use outside of an Exchange environment but for PoP
email you might find it useful. Datanet has tested it in Windows Mail, Outlook and iPhone and it
works great!
