How to fight the flu this season

Volume 26
Fall 2013
How to fight the flu
this season
The flu bug spreads fast and some people who
catch it can get very sick. But don’t worry.
Besides getting enough rest and eating right,
you can do a lot to prevent catching the flu.
Before we get to the tips, let’s look at
common symptoms of the flu: you may
have body aches, chills, high fever
and headache. Some people
feel tired or may get a
cough or sore throat.
On the other hand,
a cold means you
mostly have a runny
or stuffy nose and
you sneeze a lot.

Keeping the flu away
1. Get a flu shot – Schedule
a visit. Make sure you get
a yearly flu shot. There is
also a nasal spray vaccine
made to fight the flu. Ask
your Doctor which one is
right for you.
2. Wash your hands with
soap – The flu bug
spreads easily through the
hands. (So avoid touching
your nose or eyes).
3. Stay active – Walk each day or move about any way you can. This
cuts down on your stress, so your body can fight off colds and flu.
Flu bug got you down? How to feel better:
1. Rest in bed – This helps your body fight off the bug.
2. Drink plenty of liquids – You can help clear up your nose and chest
by drinking lots of water or hot tea.
3. Take a warm shower – Helps open your airways, besides relaxing
your body.

How to Protect Your Medical Identity
As you read this, someone could be seeing a Doctor or getting
medicine – by using your name. This is what’s called medical
identity theft. Instead of stealing your TV set, the thief goes after your
name or health insurance number to get prescription drugs or file
claims with your health provider.
There’s a chance the thief’s
health details could get mixed
up with yours. If that happens,
that could spell trouble for
your ongoing treatments or
payment records.

What can you do? Here are 5 tips:
