New Localism: How to Deliver Change, Innovation and Choice

NLGN ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2003
New Localism: How to Deliver Change,
Innovation and Choice
Thursday 23rd January 2003, Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, London SW1
The concept of new localism in public service delivery is gathering momentum. The Government has
recently announced that high performing local authorities will be given radical freedoms from
central control, allowing them to be at the forefront of a new localism that provides increased
flexibility and resources, similar to the reforms being made in health and other areas. A more limited
degree of 'letting go' for other authorities has also been proposed.
What does this mean for those involved in public service delivery, not just in local government but
the police service, health, education, local environment and beyond? And what role is there for the
private and voluntary sectors in helping to deliver good public services that people value?
This landmark event from NLGN will bring together key stakeholders from across the public and
private sectors to debate the concept of new localism and determine what this really means for those
charged with delivering improved public services on the ground. A free copy of the NLGN report
'New Localism: refashioning the centre local debate' will be available to all delegates.
