In the past, wedding cakes were simply an item you would pick from a list of pre-packaged choices with no options to change the design, color or flavor. Nowadays, brides are starting to be a lot more involved in planning their wedding cakes. Designs and color combinations are a lot more personalized and driven to reflect the bride’s personality and the wedding motif. Every bride wants her wedding cake to be unique, memorable, and a true expression of her own personality. To avoid spinning your wheels when it comes to choosing your wedding cake, there are a few pointers to follow. Before you start looking into different cake shops and designers, try browsing as many bridal and gourmet magazines as you can. Copy or tear out pictures of cakes you are interested in and add them to your wedding binder. Once you’ve collected a few ideas, start comparing your favorites. Do you notice a pattern starting to emerge? Chances are, you’ll be drawn to a particular look or design element. This exercise will definitely help you avoid being overwhelmed when the time to decide on a design for your cake comes. Once you’ve gathered up your favorite ideas, you can now start searching for the perfect wedding cake shop that can help you with your cake. There are two things to keep in mind as you start visiting wedding cake shops. Make sure that you take advantage of any opportunity to taste test their cakes. Unless you do not care how your cake will taste like, then we suggest that you need to critique the quality of the bake goods first before you start discussing in detail your design ideas. Secondly, make sure that the wedding cake shop you chose are willing to do personalized cake designs. There are still a lot of wedding cake shops out there that operate off a standard menu of wedding cakes with no desire to customize orders. The very best part about shopping for a wedding cake is sampling the merchandise. Taking advantage of “Cake Tasting” offers since this will provide you the chance to compare different combinations of cake and icing. Know your options as far as flavor combination from cake flavor, fillings and types of icings offered. If you are not familiar with some of them, ask to taste them. With the emergence of rolled fondant, choosing the right icing for your cake has now become one of those items you need to decide on. Rolled fondant is an elegant, smooth icing used to decorate cakes. It can be tinted to many colors and allows for a wide range of artistic touches to enhance the beauty of your cake. Rolled fondant is extremely common in Europe and Australia and has become more popular in the U.S. in recent years. Its texture and taste is quite different from buttercream—if you are not familiar with rolled fondant, we recommend you sample it! How far in advance should you start planning your cake? It is never too early to begin making plans for your wedding cake. Once you have confirmed a reception date, booked a hall, and selected colors and floral motifs, it is time to plan your cake. Some people book the cake as far as one year in advance. Early booking increases the chances that your cake designer still has your wedding date available in their schedule. At the latest, you must book the cake 3-6 months in advance of a reception date to avoid scheduling conflicts with your cake designer. It’s safe to say that I’m living the happiest time of my life. I see myself as a working actress who has another world outside of show biz.” Screen granny Before landing the grandmother role of Vesta in the GMA 7 prime time series “Super Twins,” Agbayani played mom to Jolina Magdangal in “I Luv New York.” “It’s nice that I can play a grandmother role,” she said. “I’ve played mother several times over. I think it’s indicative of the cycle I’m entering in show biz. To be playing grandmother at my age means that I would have a longer life in show biz and would have continuous work.” Before she played mom and grandma, Agbayani took on roles of sex sirens and Amazons, conquering Hollywood in a limited way. But then she felt homesick— so she dropped the opportunity before she could even make a dent. She said she went to America “to be a normal person” and to pursue her studies. But six months into her stay in the US, she began to land roles in films like “Emerald Forest,” “The Money Pit” and “Gymkata.” In 1984, she auditioned for a role in a “Rambo” film, but passed it up when she learned that filming would take place in Mexico and not in the Philippines as originally planned. She was yearning to return home, she said, especially after she had discovered Boracay. Not ‘showbizzy’ For a time, Agbayani, who had bought a house on the resort island, lived by the sea and went to Manila only when there was work. “I can’t remember the last movie I made,” she said. “I don’t take note of [my film projects]. Even in my house, I don’t have framed pictures of myself. I don’t have posters of my movies. I’m not “showbizzy” at all. Career highlight “Had I stayed longer in Hollywood, I could have continued working. And who knows what would have happened?” Throughout her Hollywood sojourn, Agbayani said she never disclosed her stint as a Playboy centerfold. “My agent advised me not to mention it,” she said. “She felt that it would have boxed me in sexy roles.” But the Playboy experience would always be a highlight of her career. “It certainly made my mark in the business and made me a household name,” she said. “But there are always two sides to everything. I lost some and gained some. There were the perks, but there was also a downside to it. I got a lot of flak for it, and it threw my life into a cycle of introspection. In hindsight, it taught me a lot of lessons, like getting knocked off your ass and falling fast. Now, I see it for what it is.” (Inquirer.net) The Garden Cake Scrumptious Wedding & Specialty Cakes will create cakes to fit every occasion.
