full spectrum. Simply stated, full spectrum light simulates natural daylight around noontime without emitting harmful UV. What is Kelvin temperature? What is BlueMax™ HD Lighting? BlueMax™ HD lighting products are designed to replicate natural sunlight around noontime without emitting harmful UV. Our lighting products produce a high quality of light that reduce glare and eye strain when doing tasks like reading, studying, sewing, jewelry making, and other hobbies that require good visual acuity and color detail. BlueMax™ HD lighting technology was designed based on extensive research throughout the various fields of lighting technology, the science of vision, and human physiological factors. With a unique six-color phosphor blend, BlueMax™ lights produce a scotopically enhanced light that is proven to stimulate photoreceptors in the eyes, resulting in increased visual acuity. What is full spectrum light? Full Spectrum Light refers to a light bulb or lamp that produces a light spectrum that covers the entire range of visible light (400-700 nanometers) without gaps in its spectral output. Light sources that have a Kelvin temperature ranging between 5000-6000K and a CRI (color rendering index) of 90 or above are considered Kelvin is a measurement of the color of a light source relative to a black body at a particular temperature expressed in degrees Kelvin (K). Incandescent lights have a low Kelvin color temperature (approximately 2800K) and produce a red-yellowish tone; whereas daylight has a high Kelvin color temperature (approximately 5900K) and appears white. The phosphors used in fluorescent lamps can be blended to provide any desired color temperature in the range from 2800K to 6000K. Lamps with color temperatures below 5000K produce a red-yellowish color and lamps yellow/red, lamps 5000K-6000K are viewed as white (full spectrum) while lamps above 6000K tend to have a blue cast. (Talk more about how the phosphors used determine the color of light?) What is CRI? CRI (Color Rendering Index) is a measurement of the quality of light and represents the amount of color shift that objects undergo when illuminated by a light source as compared with the color of those same objects when seen under a reference light source of comparable color temperature. CRI values range from 0 (worst) to 100 (best). CRI is very similar to your contrast knob on your TV set. High CRI equates to sharper, crisper, more natural colored pictures while at the same time reducing glare. The CRI on our BlueMax Lamp is 96, unmatched in the lighting industry. What is Light Therapy? The Mayo Clinic defines light therapy as “a way to treat seasonal affective disorder, depression and certain other conditions by exposure to bright artificial light. During light therapy, you sit or work near a device called a light therapy box. The light therapy box gives off bright light that mimics natural outdoor light. Exposure to bright light from a light therapy box is thought to alter your circadian rhythms and suppress your body’s natural release of melatonin. Together, these cause biochemical changes in your brain that help reduce or control symptoms of seasonal affective disorder and other mood conditions. Light therapy is also known as bright light therapy or phototherapy.” How do I use the BlueMax™ 70w Lamp for light therapy? Light therapy is most effective when used for approximately 30 minutes a day, preferably in the morning. The lamp produces 10,000 Lux at 18” and 5,000 Lux at 28”. Simply stated, if you sit further from the lamp, you may need to sit in front of it for a longer period of time in order to get the full benefits of light therapy.
