Why Choose DkIT for the B A (Hons) in Accounting and Finance? The DKIT BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance (BAAF) is a challenging 3 Year Level 8 programme. Those who are prepared to work hard on this course are generally rewarded with a range of excellent DkIT Library career opportunities. Important strengths of this programme include small learning groups and a highly experienced and approachable lecturing team. Many of our past graduates are at the very top of both the Accountancy profession and Irish business. Career Opportunities 50% of DKIT business graduates choose Accountancy as a career. Accountancy is a profession which is in demand regardless of whether the economy is in a boom or a recession. There are very few long-term unemployed accountants. In the current recession the accountant is needed more than ever to advise businesses on how to control their costs and plan the way forward. Starting salaries for newly qualified accountants are approx. €45000. The other 50% who choose not to pursue accountancy have other exciting career opportunities. They have a high quality degree in business with good numerical skills which can lead to further studies and/ or a career in; Generally students will work with an accountancy firm by day and study part time for their exams. This is difficult when compared to studying full time. It is very important that your degree gets you the greatest possible amount of exemptions from these exams. Information technology: Many of our graduates are now working in this area and are much sought after for their business analysis skills. DkIT BAAF students are exempt from many of these further examinations because of the high standard of the programme. Taxation : Tax consultancy is an interesting career with great earning potential (see www.taxinstitute.ie) In fact no other accountancy degree in Ireland has more exemptions from these Accountancy examinations than the BAAF in DKIT (ACCA, ICAI). Teaching Certified Accountants Law Graduates of the DKIT BAAF degree can progress directly to the final (Professional) examinations of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants. This means that they have only one set of examinations to do before they qualify as an accountant (www.accaglobal.com). Marketing Management (MBS in Marketing and Entrepreneurship in DKIT) Production and Quality Management Financial Services including Insurance, Investment consultancy and Banking. How to qualify as a professional accountant This requires approximately 3 years of apprenticeship and some further study with one of the Accountancy institutes - for example the Institute of Chartered Accountants (www.charteredaccountants.ie) or the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants (www.accaglobal.com). Chartered Accountants Many of our BAAF students choose Chartered Accountancy (Institute of Chartered Accountants). BAAF graduates can progress directly to the second last exam (CAP 2) which can be completed while working with an accountancy firm and studying part time, but, as an alternative we have an excellent (4th year) Masters degree in accounting in DKIT. Graduates achieving the required standard on completing the Masters progress directly to the Final Admitting Examination. This programme also attracts graduates from other Universities. Some students are sponsored by professional firms to do the Masters degree (www.charteredaccountants.ie).
