What is CM?
CM is a set of inter-related management processes
that assures our products, services, processes etc. are
what we want them to be and that the ever changing
relationship between product and related information
(documentation, data, other) is always known,
authorized, current, synchronized and available to all
who need to know. CM also assures we are making
sound business decisions based on accurate and
timely information.

Don’t Automated CM Tools Do CM?
GIGO
An expensive CM Tool without effective and efficient CM processes in
place can enhance an organization’s ability to make bad decisions quicker.

Outcome?
So You Don’t Want CM?
No identifiers- nothing is numbered, named or identified?
No structure, no baselines- what goes into what and what
documents are related to what parts is unknown.
What the current configuration is, is unknown.
Requirements and documentation whose integrity is questionable?
NextGen
Documents
No change control. Unauthorized, unknown
changes.
No
traceability.
To what degree will documents/information be
shared?
Where will documents reside?
How will documents be secured?
What are the levels of access?
Who maintains the “masters?”
How is timely revision assured?
Who has signature authorities for the various
types of documents?
How will documents be numbered and named?
How will export control such as ITAR/EAR
requirements be managed?
No recording and reporting Information (status accounting) about
anything change or product related.
No idea if the product conforms to whatever it is supposed to
conform to.
