With a full house on hand, angelic voices resound in Sacred Heart Church with the performance of the School’s annual Christmas Concert. Under the expert direction of Clint Kelley, the evening begins with the charming Montessori Primary and First Grade students, dressed to the nines and excited to present The First Christmas: A Nativity Musical for Very Young Voices. The Elementary School Choir shines next with its performance of On This Christmas Day, a collection of sacred songs taken from musical traditions new and old. The second portion of the program begins with an accomplished performance by the Sacred Heart Strings, featuring Christina Rohmer on violin and Madeline Hanson on cello. The Junior High Choir follows with the mini-musical Heaven’s Child, an impressively performed celebration of the Promised One, Jesus Christ, through rich narration and wonderful songs of Christmas, along with some of the most beloved Christmas carols. Culminating the evening’s program is the High School Choir, with piano accompaniment by Pat Hennigan. Gifting its audience with a series of most-beautiful Christmas songs and medleys, the choir’s stellar performance brings listeners to their feet in thunderous applause. The evening of heavenly sounds leaves the audience amazed not only by each choir’s accomplished vocal abilities, but by their scope of work in memorizing such a large number of beautiful selections, many of which are new or unfamiliar. Christina ROHMER Montessori Primary and First Grade students Madeline HANSON November and December Friday Mass collections, totaling $772, benefit the Parish Outreach program, with First Friday Food Collections helping to restock the Parish Food Pantry. Why Support Sacred Heart Catholic School? An investment in SHCS, however large or small, is an investment into the future—not only for the School, but also for the Parish community and broader Catholic community of faith. A lesson stressed at SHCS is that we are called to live our faith in action through service to the Parish and the community. For 122 years, SHCS has drawn families to the Parish who share the commitment to actively support their faith community with time, talent, and treasure. 16 THE ALUMNI Winter 2013 ut SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS TAPPS All-State football honors go to John Paul Hesse, 1st Team secondary, 2nd Team back; Luke Cochran, 1st Team offensive lineman, 2nd team defensive lineman; Kason Reeves, 1st Team punter, Honorable Mention kicker; and Justi Brown, 2nd Team linebacker, Honorable Mention tight end. ly ly ut nd le John Paul HESSE Luke COCHRAN Kason REEVES Justin BROWN First through third place winners, respectively, in the annual VFW Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest at Sacre Heart are Isaac Barnhill, Karleigh Reeves, and Bailey Walterscheid.
