Hello! This is Miss Danika Lee. I grew up in a small town called Strabane in the north-west
of Ireland and lived in Ireland and England for over twenty four years. I graduated from the
University of Ulster with a Honours degree in English and a Masters degree in Language and
Linguistics. Besides, I also attained a certificate in Education from Newcastle University.
Why I became a teacher?
When I was studying for my Masters and doing some tutoring, I began to have a new level
of respect for teachers as I finally understood what it meant to be a teacher. The more I taught,
the more I loved my job. I found that a teacher’s role is not just about what happens in the
classroom. Instead, a teacher can be a role-model for students in all aspects of life. The
opportunity to have a positive influence on someone’s life is my greatest motivation.
Outside of school
I am a self-confessed sports-maniac, who rarely goes a day without thinking about sports. My favourite football team is
Chelsea FC and I love watching tennis. I enjoy doing other physical activities like running, playing netball, hockey and going
to the gym. Doing sports is my way of relaxing and letting out some stress and I love doing these with my friends. Since
becoming a teacher, I now love reading. Although these days I may not have much time to read, I still try my best to spend
some time each day to catch-up on my reading.
2A Angel Yu
This year I joined the Speech Festival and I was surprised that I got 3rd. I was surprised that I can get 3rd because it is the
first time for me to get the prize in the open competition. When I heard the result called No. 17, I was thinking if I was
dreaming. I could not believe that I could get the 3rd. Although in practice, I felt sick, I worked very hard because I love to join
the Speech Festival and I love English. I will join the Speech Festival next year. However, this time the prize gave me a
positive energy to improve my confidence and English. At last, I want to thank my trainer teacher Miss Liu. She helped me a
lot to make better in my performance. My success is from my hardworking and Miss Liu’s devotion.
1A Yoyo Chim
Last year, I joined the Speech Festival with my friends. My speech training teacher was Miss Chan. She taught me how
to read the words correctly. Before the competition, my classmates always encouraged and supported me, so I was so
confident to face the challenge.
That day, many students from different schools joined the competition. But, it didn’t frighten me. It is because it is the
third time for me to join the Speech Festival. After the competition, the judge announced the result. She said I got the second
place. At that moment, I was so surprised because I had never thought of getting any awards.
After I got the second place in the competition, I was so confident. I think that joining the Speech Festival can really
boost your confidence. If you are timid, I think you should try to join it. Speech Festival is a good way to improve yourself.
Let’s try it next year.

A day with my idol
2A Yeung Hoi Pui
My favourite idol is a Korean. He is a Korean singer and rapper. Also, he is the team leader of ‘Big
Bang’. His name is G-dragon. I like him because he is fashionable and talented. He is also handsome too.
When he was young, he composed many songs and created various kinds of black clothes by himself.
Therefore, I think he is very attractive.
Yesterday morning, I was studying at home calmly. There was no one at home, except me. Suddenly,
someone knocked the door softly. When I opened the door, I was shocked! It was G-dragon standing in front
of me! ‘Oh my god!’ I exclaimed. I was so surprised to see him. ‘Hello! I am G-dragon. Nice to meet you,’ he
said. However, I was too shy to say anything to him. He was so nice that he told many things about himself. And he said he
was going to take me to a secret place.
After travelling by plane, we arrived at his home! Although his home was a bit messy, I felt comfortable. I could hardly
believe that he found his new album ‘COUP D’ETAT’ and gave it to me!
In the afternoon, I took him to Mongkok to buy some earrings, jewellery and caps since I
know that he likes to wear these accessories. When we were shopping in Mongkok, I saw a cap
shop. I bought a beautiful cap for him. I was so delighted that he loved it so much. ‘Thank you so
much! I will always wear it,’ he said to me gently.
When we finished shopping, he said that he needed to return to Korea because he had
something to do. Although I was upset, I would support him. Therefore, we said goodbye to each
other.
In the evening, I recalled what we did. I felt enjoyable as I had already done what I always
want to do with him. When I went to bed, I slept with his album and had a nice dream.
A Speech of Promoting the Reading Club
3A Leung Yiu Ming, Johnny
Good morning, Principal, teachers and fellow schoolmates! I am Chris Wong, the Chairperson of the
Reading Club.
Today, I am honored to share with you about the messages of reading. Also, I would like to promote
our reading club to you. Do you want to know more about our reading club? Let me tell you some
information about our club.
There are so many objectives of our club. The aims of the club are to improve the English standard of
the students, to encourage more students to read books and to share the joy of reading with students. Of course, the main
objective is to enhance students’ interest in reading as it can help students a lot in their exams and foster their personal growth.
Do you know what activities we had last year? Let me tell you about it. We had a book borrowing competition in which
students who borrowed the most books could win a prize. We were so happy that quite a number of students won big prizes in
the activity. Furthermore, we held a book mark design competition and a lot of students came to join it. However, some of the
students said this activity was extremely boring. So, we will definitely hold some more interesting ones this year.
Talking about activities, we will organize some interesting and meaningful activities this year. For example, teachers’
sharing session, book fair, book cover design competition and a talk about writing creatively. The most attractive one is the
book fair. It will be held in May in the school hall. We welcome all students to join that because you can get some free books
you like in the book fair. One of the benefits is to learn more vocabulary and use them in your writing through reading some
novels. Another obvious benefit is to broaden students’ horizons from reading various texts.
About the teachers’ sharing session. It will be held soon. Students will have the chances to listen to teachers’ sharing
about their reading experiences. They will then write comment cards to the teachers. We are so glad that teachers will respond
to students’ comments as well. From this activity, I believe that students can know how to read books more easily and they
will develop more positive feelings towards reading.
I hope that you can enjoy our activities and learn something through our events. We welcome you to join our reading
club! Our regular meeting will be held from 4:10pm to 6:00pm every Friday in the library. If you have any enquiries, please
feel free to contact us! Thanks for your attention! Hope that you all can enjoy our activities and the joy of reading.

Let Children Watch TV Programmes
6A Yip Hiu Tung Tiffany
Dear editor,
Nowadays, lots of families have a television set at home. They are also enjoying the television
programmes but more and more parents tell me that television programmes have bad influences on their
children’s development. It will affect them seriously so the parents stop their children to watch those
television programmes at all. I argued them immediately as I think those television programmes can have
good influences on their children if it is a suitable time. Through watching those television programmes,
children can get the benefits. Now, I would like to talk about the benefits of television for children.
First, it is a good chance for the children to broaden their horizons. Most parents are very busy at
work everyday so they cannot have any spare time to take their children to have a picnic or shop so
watching television programmes is one of the ways for children to broaden their horizons. Because there are some
programmes like news report, travel programmes and discovery channel, these can let children know more around the world.
Through watching programmes, children can learn the animals, places around the world and the news that has happened. So
the children can have good knowledge when they are young.
Second, it is a way for the children and their parents to develop a good relationship. Most of the parents need to work
very hard in their offices. They need to not only finish their documentary but also prepare the dinner and clean the house so it
is difficult for the parents to find out the time to play with the children and talk with the children so some kinds of
programmes like cartoons and news report are suitable for them to watch together. It can help not only children and parents to
relax and give a chance for them to talk together.
Third, it may help the children to find out their dream. There are some kinds of television programmes like soap operas
and movies, that can help children to find out their dream because of the topic of the story. Some actors may act as, not only
policeman but also pilot. It may affect their mind to pursue this type of career in the future. Then they can be a friend easily. It
is helpful for their development as they need friends when they need to work in the society. When they get some pressure from
work, friends can help them to release their stress so it is important for them to learn to make new friends from watching
television programmes.
To conclude, too much time for children to watch television programmes may have bad influences but children’s
programmes are important for children as they can get some benefits such as helping children to make new friends and
broaden their horizons so parents, please let the children have a suitable time to watch the television programmes as it is
important for them.
Yours faithfully,
Chris
Smart?
5A Tsang Chak San ,Louis
Does this name ring a bell? Steve Jobs, the former CEO of the well-known company, Apple Inc. You
may not know him, but you must know his greatest creation ever, a revolutionary and world-changing
electronic device. Is it inside your pocket, or are you holding and playing with it now? It’s a
SMARTPHONE.
What makes smartphone smarter than normal phones? It is a telephone, a camera, a game pad, a note,
an MP3, etc. It’s all-in-one. It is so convenient that almost every one of us has to have one. Scholars
estimate that there are more than one third of the world population owns a smartphone.
What’s good about smart phone? First, it is convenient, as I mentioned before. Anything you can imagine is contained in
the phone. It saves us time and space. Think about this example: one day, your friend calls you, asking you to take a photo of
your cat and to send it to another friend as that friend is doing some research on cats. What you might have needed to
accomplish this ‘task’ a decade ago were a phone, a camera, a computer to send email, and, of course, the cat. But now, all you
need is just a smartphone and the cat. How convenient that is!
However, nothing is perfect. Having a smartphone has its drawbacks. Smartphones are so fun to use, people tend to use
them a lot and get attached, and even addicted, to them. There are a full range of free games to download that students who
own a smartphone may spend excessive time on playing these games instead of studying or doing something else more
worthwhile. Some even spend their bed time using smartphones. This certainly will deteriorate their performance at school.
Moreover, because smartphones are so handy, people tend to store more and more data and information in their phone.
This could be disastrous if you are a careless person or if you don’t put up enough security measures. Hackers can easily steal
your identity and perform illegal swindles with the information. Therefore, we must know how to protect ourselves in such a
‘smart’ era. Do not store any personal information in your phone. If you have to, install security softwares or applications. Do
not answer any unknown call, EVER.
Smartphones are neither good nor bad itself by nature. It’s a two-edged blade. It depends on how you use it. It can be a
time-saving tool if used correctly. However, it can also bring you troubles if used carelessly. No matter how you use it,
smartphones are a great achievement of our technology, use it wisely and don’t let it overwhelm you.

Television Programmes – Angels or Devils
6A Shin Jin Tao, Allan
Dear editor,
More and more parents feel that TV programmes contain different topics and some of them may bring
bad effects to their child and it is not good for their development. Some investigations even claim that if
people save the time they spend on TV, they would be able to learn and master a new language. It seems
that watching TV is a complete waste of time but I don’t agree as TV can bring some benefits to us
especially for children.
First of all, watching TV can help children to relax themselves. In Hong Kong, children suffer a lot of
study pressure at a young age. However, they are too young to know how to deal with stress. Therefore,
watching TV is definitely the best way for them to relax. Humans are not a kind of machine and sometimes we should find out
some ways to entertain ourselves properly.
Moreover, some TV programmes are very educational and interesting and it can bring children a lot of knowledge and
fun. For example, science programmes. It is hard for young children to understand science knowledge but in order to make
people interested in these programmes, science programmes are usually made to be simple and it contains a lot of explanation
with colorful vision so that even a child can understand. Therefore, children are able to come across science in a young age
and some of them may even set up a dream of being a scientist because of these TV programmes.
Furthermore, the TV programmes contains vision, special effects and attractive voice and they can attract children to sit
down properly and explore the world through TV. The TV programmes conclude different kinds of topics and children can
learn more about the world from them as children are so young that they are able to explore the world in person. Therefore,
watching TV is a good way to help them know more. Some people may say, “Books can also help children to learn more, why
don’t they read book instead of watching TV?” Although books can bring the same knowledge to children, children may think
it is boring and can’t focus on those words.
Last but not least, TV programmes also provide some opportunities for children to build up their relationship. Children’s
friends or classmates may talk about the content from TV programmes and if the children have watched them before, they will
be able to join the conversation and build up the relationship. The children can even make new friends through this way. If not,
the children may be isolated by other children and may suffer a lack of recognition from friends. It is not good for children’s
growth and it may remain a terrible memory.
In short, watching TV can really bring positive effects on children and if the parents can provide suitable guidance for
children. I believe children can really gain a lot from them and be full of positive energy.
Yours faithfully,
Chris
My Dream
5A Tsui Ho Yin
Today, I am going to talk about my dream - a dream that is not simply just ridiculous but hard to
achieve and worth spending more time and effort to pursue.
My dream is to change the people around me or us, like you, the common man on the street of the
billionaire in his mansion. In other words, I want to change the world where we are living.
I know it sounds crazy so I spent almost 3 hours last night trying to make what I am going to tell you
look more normal and sensible. Why do I have a dream that is so hard to achieve? Why does it sound so
unrealistic to others?
Because I guess things are not how they used to be in this world.
Money has become our first priority. Homeless people are starved on the streets in poor countries. But no one cares.
Sad!
Home is no longer the shelter for us. Parents are always like our enemies, making us feel like we were in The World
War III every single day.
Maybe you don't take it to your heart. But it's worth spending a lifetime to think twice.
This world is cruel now. No matter how big the steps I have to strike out are; no matter how little change I can possibly
make; no matter how hard it is to achieve this dream, I will give my everything to make our society and life better. If you are
still laughing at my dream, just laugh! Louder please!
The louder you laugh at my dream, the more valuable and meaningful for me to realise it.
