2014 Summer Reading Events at the Millicent Library Visit the Millicent Library at 45 Center St., Fairhaven, this summer! The following events will be held in the Library Auditorium (Walnut St entrance—handicapped accessible) unless otherwise noted. Sign ups for the “Fizz, Boom, Read!” Summer Reading Program begin on Wednesday, June 25th, since school gets out late again this year! We’ll have a day-long celebration; you may sign up any time that day between 9 and 5, or anytime after that right through July. Join the Read-to Program, the Kids Read program or the Teens Read program. The goal is to read 20 hours each; our group goal is 4000 hours again this year. See you at the library for books, raffles and prizes & FUN. The Teen program is open to kids entering Grade 6 and up, and the Teen theme is “Spark a Reaction” We’ll have special prizes, raffles and events for Teens. Special programs are listed on the Summer Reading Calendar. ONGOING: Storytimes for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. on July 1st,8th, 15th, 22nd, and August 5th . Hear stories, sing songs and rhymes and interact with others during free play. Siblings welcome. No Storytimes on Tuesday, July 29th, August 12th or 19th. There will be no Friday Storytimes during the Summer. The regular Storytime schedule will resume the week before Labor Day, when school starts. Teen Group! This year’s Teen Theme is “Spark a Reaction.” Parties, Movies, Crafts, Game days, Wii, special Teen Raffles and more; your input is appreciated! Light refreshments are served. We will need Teen helpers to assist with events like Bottle Rockets, Tie-Dye, and the Teddy Bear Parade. If you need to perform community service or just want to help, we’d love to have you! Gamernoon/Crafternoon Wednesday, July 2nd, and July 9th, July 16th, July 23rd,and July 30th from 2-4:45 p.m. Come and play games and make crafts in the downstairs Auditorium. Daisy D. Dots World of Clowning. Monday, July 7th, 10 a.m.-noon. Ages 4 and up. Sign up! Learn about becoming a clown as local favorite Daisy D. Dots demonstrates the art of her craft. Daisy will also appear at the Teddy Bear Parade to paint faces in August. Bottle Rockets! Join Dr. Toby Dills! Thursday, July 10th, 10:00- 12:00. Let's see whose bottle rocket can fly the highest! Once again, we will make bottle rockets using recyclable materials and learn about the science principles behind space flight with local science professor, Dr. Dills. SIGN UP. Ages 3+ (with parent assistance). On the Unitarian lawn, across the street from the Walnut Street entrance. We’ll start in the Millicent auditorium to construct our rockets! Please bring at least two 2-liter soda bottles (And extras to share if you can.) Sign up! Musik ‘n Fun with Aoife Clancy. Sign up for one 35 minute session. Babies/ Toddlers up to 2 ½ at 10 a.m., and 2 ½ -4 year olds at 11. Come learn about music and hear Aoife sing and play! Sign up! Limited to 15 children per session. TENTATIVELY scheduled for Friday, July 11th. Tie–Dye with Dr. Toby Dills! Monday, July 21st, 10-noon. Join us on the Unitarian Church Lawn, across from the Walnut Street entrance. Bring a white cotton T-shirt or other white cotton item to dye, or purchase one from Dr. Dills. Sign up! Age 3 and up, with parent assistance. Teen helpers get a free shirt. Fire Department Fun! Wednesday, July 23rd, 10 - 11:00 a.m. Wear your bathing suit for this annual event! The Fairhaven Fire Department will be on hand to give fire safety tips. Then we'll turn on the hose and cool off! Held on the Unitarian Church lawn across the street from the Walnut Street entrance. All ages. Bring your own picnic if you’d like. Tales from the Talespinner with Dr. Toby Dills. Thursday, July 24th in the downstairs Auditorium. 10-11 a.m. Sign up! Ages 3 and up. Some of the stories are a little scary! Teddy Bear Parade! Wednesday, August 6th, 10 a.m.-noon. Bring your teddy bear for the 30th Annual Teddy Bear Parade! All ages. Rain makes it a Teddy Bear Picnic inside. Meet on the Unitarian Church lawn across the street from the Walnut Street entrance. Turn in your reading log on or before this date. Drinks and snacks provided.
