For Literature, Creative Writing, or English Majors:
Reverend Lloyd C. and Ica L. Bronson Memorial Award (Up to $1,000)
Scholarship is awarded to full-time English majors. Application is due in junior year; award will be applied to senior year.
Women, persons of color, LBGTQ, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
1. Junior or higher standing at the time of application.
2. Currently is and will remain a full-time student
3. Minimum 3.5 GPA
4. Has experience working with minority groups (particularly, ethnic or gender)
To be considered, applicants must provide:
1. Cover letter
2. Copy of official transcripts
3. Copy of signed English major form
4. Documentation of work performed with minority group(s)
Jeanette R. House Memorial Scholarship (Up to $1,500)
Scholarship is awarded to full-time English majors. Application is due in junior year; award will be applied to senior year. This
scholarship is non-renewable.
Requirements:
1. Junior or higher standing at the time of application.
2. Minimum 3.0 GPA
To be considered, applicants must provide:
1. Cover letter
2. An essay (approximately 800-1000 words) that focuses on the critical questions or problems the student is pursuing
in English Language and Literature studies. More specifically, applicants should be sure to address what texts (or
kinds of texts) have been the most useful in their studies and why. Applicants should also address how the critical
questions that motivate their studies will inform their teaching.
3. Two letters of recommendation (one of which must come from a faculty member who is familiar with your work).
J. Carroll Arnett Creative Writing Scholarship ($1,000)
Scholarship awarded to a student with a demonstrated commitment to creative writing. No student may receive the award
more than once. Award not based on financial need.
Requirements:
1. Junior, senior, or graduate student at the time of application.
2. Submission of an original creative writing portfolio

Marion Croft Althoff Memorial Scholarship (Amount Varies)
Scholarship awarded to English Language Arts majors or English majors who intend to teach. This award is based on financial
need and may be used for tuition and room and board.
Requirements:
1. Undergraduate student status
2. Recommendation by an English faculty member familiar with the student’s work
3. Financial need
To be considered, applicants must provide:
1. Cover letter
2. An essay (approximately 800-1000 words) that focuses on the critical questions or problems the student is pursuing
in English Language and Literature studies. More specifically, applicants should be sure to address what texts (or
kinds of texts) have been the most useful in their studies and why. Applicants should also address how the critical
questions that motivate their studies will inform their teaching.
3. Letter of recommendation by an English faculty member familiar with the student’s work
4. Evidence of financial need
Francis J. and Mary Lois Molson English Education Scholarship (Up to $1,000)
Scholarship awarded to an English major or minor pursuing secondary education certification. This award is renewable.
Requirements:
1. Undergraduate student status
2. Minimum 3.25 overall GPA
3. Must demonstrate academic excellence.
To be considered, applicants must provide:
1. Letter of application including a narrative (1-2 typed pages) describing the student’s academic performance and onand off-campus activities.
2. Current resume
3. Contact information for three references (one for academic excellence and two for on- and off-campus service) NOTE:
applicants should NOT send or request reference letters.
E. C. Beck Scholarship (Amount Varies)
Scholarship awarded to English Language Arts majors or English majors who intend to teach. The recipient is chosen based on
scholarship, financial need, and probable teaching success. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors.
Requirements:
1. Undergraduate student status
