Dear Parents and Guardians:
We hope that you and your child are ready for the start of the 2014-2015 school year. As you are aware,
all 7th grade students will be participating in a one-to-one iPad initiative. That is, your child will have a
school district provided iPad to utilize in his/her classes and at home. The iPad initiative enhances our
teachers’ ability to leverage technology to move toward customizing learning. The goals of the iPad
program are as follows:
! To increase student engagement and motivation in the learning process.
! To promote more opportunities for students to apply 21st Century skills i.e., collaborating,
problem solving, critical thinking, communicating, researching, creating and innovating, and
digital citizenship.
! To foster an environment where teaching and learning are customized to meet students’
learning styles, readiness levels, and interests.
! To provide more of a "learn anytime/anywhere" approach with student acquisition of content
and skills.
Attached to this letter is an insurance policy as well as our iPad user agreement. Our insurance is
voluntary, but will cover accidental damage and repairs. Please refer to that document for the specifics
of our insurance program. The intent of the iPad user agreement is to ensure that students and parents
are aware of the responsibility of having and using an iPad both at school and at home. In addition to
the teachers reviewing the agreement with their students, we kindly ask that you also review it with your
child. Please sign the form and send it back to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Lastly, student safety is our utmost priority. All district policies are in effect for the iPad at all times.
We would like to specifically reiterate the importance of district policies 3027 Use of District’s Internet
and Computer Networks and policy 6008.6 Bullying and Cyberbullying. Both policies were included in
your child’s back to school registration. The district has Internet filtering in place to help protect your
child; however, your support in monitoring student usage outside of the school setting is paramount to
the success of the iPad program.
Please review and sign the agreements and return the signed form to your child’s homeroom teacher as
soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Brad Wilson
([email protected]). Thank you for your support in this exciting initiative.
Sincerely,
Middle School Administration
An Equal Opportunity Employer
