ME TO WE INDIA OPEN TRIP: 21 DAY SAMPLE ITINERARY DAY 1: TRAVEL Your Me to We adventure begins as you depart for Udaipur, India via overnight flight. Get ready to change the world! DAY 2: ARRIVAL TO UDAIPUR, INDIA Transfer to your accommodations near a Free The Children community in the Rajasthan Province. Check in and relax after your flight. • Explore City Palace Tour the imposing home off the imperial Indian princes of times past. • Visit Kumbhalgarh Fortress Take a guided tour of the birthplace of one of the most loved kings ings in Rajasthan’s history. • Visit Rankakpur Temple Discover one of the Wonders Wonder of the World as you wander the halls of this famous Jain temple with its imposing marble structure. • Henna Workshop Learn more about the traditional tional form of Indian body art—you’ll you’ll even have the chance to try it out for yourself! DAY 3 – 19: Every day of your trip is made up of a combination of volunteering or building activities, unique cultural experiences and leadership ership skill building modules. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: • Poja Prayer Ceremony Every new build project begins with a traditional blessing to ensure its success and prosperity prosperity. • Building 101 Make the most of your volunteering time in the community by taking part in a mandatory one one-hour project building safety workshop. • Volunteer Project Building Depending on the community, day and time, your volunteering could range from school building, to tree planting, to restoration—all all projects that will help remove the barriers to education. • Leadership Module: The Education Debate Take on the role of Indian parents and determine whether you can send your daughter to school. Discuss gender roles, cultural traditions and the needs of the family and expand your understanding ng of local barriers to education. Depart from the Udaipur Airport for your flight home. DAY 21: ARRIVAL HOME Get ready to share the story off your journey! Work alongside community members as they go about their daily activities, activities helping them to collect water,, do household chores and make roti, a traditional Indian meal. Get to know the people that you’re y working with and learn about some of the struggles of their everyday lives. • Breakfast and morning yoga lesson 9:30am – 12:30pm • Morning in the Village 12:30pm – 1:30pm • VOLUNTEER PROJECT BUILDING Lunch at accommodations 1:30pm – 2:30pm • • Energizer / team building activity Depart for community and project building 2:30pm – 5:30pm • • Build site orientation and instruction of afternoon activities Volunteer project building 5:30pm – 7:30pm • • Return to accommodation Dinner at accommodation 7:30pm – 10:00pm • • • Action planning Review schedule for the next day Choice time to relax, play cards, read or just enjoy being in India. Depending on the community, day and time, your volunteering could be a variety of different activities that help remove the barriers to education—you education could be laying bricks that will become a school, digging wells that will provide clean water, or planting crops that will grow into nourishing food. You’ll see the real results of your work as you volunteer alongside community communi members on Free The Children development projects. Your work will have an impact that will last for generations to come. ACTION PLANNING Led by your Me to We facilitators, reflect on your experiences throughout the day. You’ll explore some of the contemporary emporary issues facing the communities where we work, and get the tools and skills you need to take action at home on issues you care about. We’ll help you put your ideas into action. With the awareness, skills and plan you develop in the India, you’ll be ready to make a positive difference when you return home. 10:00pm • Lights out!
