Below you can find a description of these materials. Belt Fabrics There are two basic types of fabrics used in the production of Nitta conveyor belts: rigid and non-rigid fabric. Rigid fabric for conveyor belts R-fabric, or rigid fabric, has a monofilament yarn running across the belt, which ensures that Nitta conveyor belts have a good lateral stability. There are several varieties of rigid fabrics, which depend on the type of monofilament yarn. Nitta differentiates: • LR-fabric, light rigid • HR- fabric, rigid-low stretch • R-fabric, rigid • XR-fabric, gives extreme lateral stability and can be used in chocolate cooling tunnels, and swan-neck conveyors. Non-rigid fabric for conveyor belts N-fabric, or non rigid fabric, incorporates flexible yarns in the weft, as well as high tensile warp yarns, enabling belting with this fabric to haul heavy, bulky goods in either a troughed or flat conveying system. Special fabrics for conveyor belts • RZ-fabric, this fabric is often used for belts deployed in bakeries. It is a combination of a monofilament yarn with a viscose yarn. This creates a thicker crave for heavy dough products. • DR-fabric, is an interwoven polyester fabric. Other fabrics for conveyor belts • C-fabric, both cotton yarns in warp and weft, excellent for drum lagging material. • CP-fabric, or cotton/polyester fabric, has cotton fill yarns for moisture absorption and polyester warp yarns for strength and low stretch. Cotton fabric is used for non-sticking applications for dough or uncured rubber. • CPA-fabric, is a cotton polyamide fabric, this combination creates more stretch but is lighter and is more wear-resistant as CP fabric. Excellent for use in bakeries. • W-fabric, or whisper fabric, also called low-noise fabric. Its special structure decreases the noise a belt makes while running on conveyors. It is used in areas where people are nearby, such as airports, distribution centers or for treadmills in gyms. • M-Fabric is a high-strength fabric used for extremely heavy-duty operations, such as marble and granite grinding or moving floors in trucks. The monofilament in the fabric assists in the flatness and tracking of the belts. • Y-fabric is a fabric with a high breaking-strength, excellent for applications where stretching of the belt must be highly limited. Your Partner in Belting Solutions 3 Antistatic fabric compositions Some types of fabric (R, LR, DR, XR, N, W) can be combined with a carbon yarn that gives the belts antistatic qualities. Cover Material Nitta’s conveyor belts can be equipped with a wide range of covers, in many colours and hardnesses. On request Nitta is able to make belts in “your” colour, thickness and/or “your” profile. Most covers are thermoplastic, to ease endlessing of the belts, and fitting of accessories such as carriers, sidewalls and tracking strips. Cover materials for Nitta conveyor belts • PVC • PU • PE • Hytrel • Niflex • Silicone • Felt PVC conveyor belts PVC conveyor belts are extremely durable and very flexible. Nitta conveyor belts with a PVC cover/coating can be differentiated as OV and EX types. The conveyor belts made with “oil and grease resistant” (OV) PVC have excellent resistance to oil and grease. The white, blue and transparent oil and grease resistant belts meet the FDA and European Union specifications* for handling food and related products. Belts made with EX PVC are abrasion resistant with high mechanical strength, particularly suitable for agriculture and materials handling, especially where the application causes high abrasion. Flame retardant according to ISO-340 For airports around the world, in a variety of applications, special PVC conveyor belts are produced containing a flame retardant top cover. These belts comply with the ISO 340 standard. Polyurethane - PU conveyor belts Thermoplastic polyurethane coating material excels through its exceptional resistance to grease, oils and chemicals. Nitta’s PU conveyor belts have an extremely long life, are highly flexible and they meet the FDA and European Union specifications* The PU belts are available in two executions: • Hardness 87A: in white, blue, green, petrol and black. • Hardness 92A: in white, green, petrol and black. Niflex conveyor belts These belts feature a hard non-thermoplastic polyurethane cover layer applied on top of two-ply PVC belts. They offer excellent impact and wear resistance. They are used to transport sharp metal objects in car factories, plastic sheet stamping and other heavy applications. Available in white and blue with a 1 mm, 1.5 mm and 2 mm top cover. Your Partner in Belting Solutions 4 Polyolefin conveyor belts Thanks to their excellent chemical resistance, and non-stick properties, the polyolefin conveyor belts are widely used in a variety of applications. Polyolefin has been especially developed for the tobacco industry; this is because polyolefin covers contain no harmful substances if the polyolefin should accidentally come into the production stream and is burned afterwards. The polyethylene covers meet the specifications of the FDA and the European Union for all kinds of foodstuffs; Hytrel can be used for dry, non-oily food. Nitta has two polyolefin covers available: • Polyethylene - the first true polyolefin to meet the specifications of the FDA and the European Union for all types of food. • Hytrel(thermoplasticpolyester) - a later development that is more abrasion resistant. Hytrel meets the specifications of the FDA and the European Union but only for dry, non-oily food. Silicon cover for conveyor belts Silicon is resistant to many chemicals, greases and oils. Nitta conveyor belts with silicon covers offer excellent non-stick properties in food applications, such as nougat and caramel. However, they are also excellent in the diapers and sanitary industry for the folding and gluing of paper products. Silicon belts are available in white, blue and transparent, and meet the requirements of the FDA and the European Union for all foodstuffs. Felt conveyor belts Felt belts are used in a wide variety of material transport applications such as car manufacturing, food processing and heavy industry. Nitta has two different executions available • Blackfelt - often used in distribution centers, automotive industry and for transporting unvulcanized rubber. • Whitefelt - often used in a variety of bakery applications for dough handling. FDA & EU compliance Nitta’s conveyor belts for the food industry comply with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and European Union (10/2011 EC + amendments) requirements. Nitta offers food belts with excellent oil and grease resistance, which make them ideal for use in the production of, biscuits, bread, snacks, sweets and meat. * Chapter 21, Code of Federal Regulations, for all kind of food & European union Directive 10/2011/EC + Amendments. Blue belts Many food factories require that their belts are equipped with blue covers, because that is a non-food colour in nature. When, by accident or wear, parts of the belt are breaking off and coming into the flow of product, they can be scanned and removed before they come into the final product that goes to the consumer, thus increasing consumer protection. Nitta offers blue food-grade belts in PVC, Polyurethane, Polyethylene and Silicone. Your Partner in Belting Solutions 5 Profiles for PVC & PU Conveyor Belts A conveyor belt profile can be important in regard to material grip and achievable inclination angles for the conveyor systems. Profiles can add structure to transported products like chocolate bars. Some profiles have the ability to increase grip when heavy objects are placed on the belt material. Belt structures and profiles also have an effect on the ease of cleaning. Please contact Nitta for advice on the correct belt profile for your products and application. When required we can even engineer a new profile for you. All profiles can be produced on 2-meters wide unless otherwise stated. Available profiles for Nitta PVC and PU conveyor belts: Congrip profile (CG) This is an extremely good profile for inclining transport of heavier goods and products such as bags, boxes, packets, suitcases etc. This profile is very easy to clean. Cone profile (CP) The CP profile is excellent for inclined and flat transport of e.g. meat and fish. The sharp points of the cone ensure the product is transported with ease and precision. Furthermore, due to the open structure design of the profile, your customer will have no concerns for hygiene as the belt will be very easy to clean. Maximum production width is 1000 mm. Crossrib profile (CR) Good possibilities for inclining of crates, boxes and sacks under dry circumstances. Also suitable as lagging material for transmission or friction rollers. Fishbone (FB) Mostly used in food industries like meat, poultry and fish, for inclined transport. Also suitable for leafy products like tobacco and tea. Maximum production width is 1000 mm. Very large nipple (GNP) An excellent profile for grip on very large objects, or for conveying goods in wet environments such as the fish processing. Conveyor belts with this profile are easy to clean. Maximum production width is 1000 mm. Gauze profile (GP) This profile is very suitable for use as inclining belt for packaged bulky goods, for example in post-offices, airports and other distribution centers. Your Partner in Belting Solutions 6 Light duty incline profile (LD) This is a special profile very suitable for use as an inclining belt for packaged bulky goods, for example in post-offices, airports and other distribution centers. Large Rib profile (LRB) Excellent grip to large and heavy objects like pallets and cases. The profile bends through when the weight increases and thus the contact surface is increased. Light Square (LSQ) A profile used in the confectionery industry in cooling tunnels, to imprint the bottom of the chocolate with the same profile as the belt (product identification). Conveyor belts with this profile are also used in bakeries for conveying dough in order to enhance the belt’s releasing properties. Mars Profile (MP) Used in chocolate cooling tunnels of factories belonging to the M&M Mars group. Can be seen on the bottom side of their candy bars. Matt surface (M) Conveyor belts with a matt surface are being used in production lines to prevent the reflection of light or to reduce the friction, allowing accumulation or ploughing off. Maximum production width is 3000 mm. Negative Drop profile (NDP) Applied for jogging machines. Nipple profile (NP) This profile has been applied very successfully on conveyor and friction belts in laundries and in the packing industry. It is widely used where friction on the top cover is required and is therefore also extremely suitable as a non-slip surface on driving drums. Rib Profile (RB) This profile is good for inclined transport, especially in dusty conditions. Very popular profile in distributions centers, post offices and airports. Your Partner in Belting Solutions 7 Rough top profile (RT) A universal profile for horizontal and inclined conveying of boxes and bags under dry and reasonably clean conditions. The belts on which this profile is applied are odour free, and leave neither an aftertaste nor markings. As such the profile is also very suitable for food industry applications, in combination with food-grade belts. Rough top low profile (RTM) Lower version of the Roughtop. Used for lighter inclined applications. Sandblast profile (SB) A profile that is very popular for jogging belts or as a non-slip tape on drive drums. Square profile (SQPR) This profile is usually pressed into a hard PVC which gives it low friction properties in relation to metals and plastics. It is therefore extremely suitable on applications with sliderbed support or with accumulation. It is also available in soft PVC where it is mainly applied with products like dough to prevent a suction effect. In cases where our belts are covered with a PVC coating on the bottom side, we use the square profile as the standard one. Maximum production width is 3000 mm. Sawtooth profile (ST) This profile can be used on incline conveyors for products such as fish, tobacco and tea. It is very easy to clean. In very wet circumstances this profile can be applied on the bottom side and provides a non-slip transmission. Triangular profile (TR) Shallow profile in cross direction, excellent for leafy products and very easy to clean. Wave top profile (WT) A profile that can be used for the same applications as the rough top profile. In addition, this profile reduces the noise on the rollers in the return part of the conveyor very effectively. Your Partner in Belting Solutions 8 Explanation of Nitta’s Product Coding Nitta’s product coding system has been designed to allow identification of any of our belts.
