AUTUMN ’12 For the patients of Drs. Albiero, Templin, Jakusz & Zambon What’s A Ghost’s Favorite Candy? BOOO-BLE GUM of course! Calling all ghouls, ghosts and goblins to support our troops. Join us, along with Operation Gratitude, for our first Halloween Candy Buy-Back! We will pay $1.00 per pound (up to 5 dollars) for your unopened Halloween candy (all kinds, including chocolate). All donors will also receive a tooth brush as a token of our thanks. Besides helping our troops this is a great way to educate our youth in giving back. Kids will still have the fun of Trick or Treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well! Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year. Candy can lead to hyperactivity, weight gain and tooth decay. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces. Candy will be collected Thursday, November 1st, 2012 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at our office, N112W16760 Mequon Road, Germantown, WI 53022. All children must be accompanied by an adult. We encourage you to bring a “Thank you” letter or a creative picture to send to our soldiers. It only takes a few minutes and will bring joy to our troops. The letters will be sent with the candy. Don’t know where to start? • • • • Express your thanks Share a little about yourself (child’s first name only) Talk about sports, weather, pets, hobbies, music, movies Can’t find words? Golf Poem For all those who GOLF and for those who continue to try and understand why those people golf! In my hand I hold a ball, White and dimpled, and rather small. Oh, how bland it does appear, This harmless looking little sphere. By its size I could not guess, The awesome strength it does possess. But since I fell beneath its spell, I’ve wandered through the fires of hell. My life has not been quite the same Since I chose to play this stupid game. It rules my mind for hours on end; A fortune it has made me spend. It has made me curse and made me cry, And hate myself and want to die. It promises me a thing called par, If I hit it straight and far. REMINDER... Information that’s fun to share... ld Socks – Most of us know that for some reason socks either lose their O partners over time or have seen better days and head for retirement. Instead of throwing them in the trash, give them other jobs around the house with these 10 ideas from “This Old House” October 2012. 1.First Aid – Slip an ice pack into a sock to temper the chill while soothing an injury. To master such a tiny ball, Should not be very hard at all. But my desires the ball refuses, And does exactly as it chooses. 2.Secure Mobile Devices – Create an armband pocket for your mobile device by cutting off the cuff of a tube sock, slide it onto your arm then double the material up around your biceps. Tuck the device between the elastic layers. It hooks and slices, dribbles and dies, And disappears before my eyes. Often it will have a whim, To hit a tree or take a swim. 3.Rescue Lost Hardware – Slip a sock over the end of a vacuum’s hose, secure with a rubber band and used the vac’s suction to pick up dropped screws, nuts, or nails. With miles of grass on which to land, It finds a tiny patch of sand. Then has me offering up my soul, If only it would find the hole. 5.Polish Surfaces – A sock can become a reusable or disposable mitt for waxing furniture or shining silver, brass, or pewter. It’s made me whimper like a pup, And swear that I will give it up. And take to drink to ease my sorrow, But the ball knows… I’ll be back tomorrow. 7.Ice-proof Windshield Wipers – Slide knee socks over wipers to prevent crystals from clinging. Pull off the socks before you leave... no scraping necessary! Author unknown 4.Stop Drafts – Line door jambs and window sills with rice-filled socks to keep the cold from entering and the warmth from leaving your home. 6.Cushion Your Knees – Cut off the legs of a pair of tube socks and slide them over your pant legs. Fold the fabric over your knees once or twice for those jobs around the house that require kneeling. 8.Protect Footwear – Before tackling a dirty or messy job, pull oversized or stretched out socks over your shoes to keep them clean. 9.Entertain the DOG – Tie a knot at each end of a tube sock and get ready for a round of tug-of-war. 10.Clean Up – wear a sock as a glove so that you can easily swab the dust away from every nook and cranny. In the 5th Century BC, Hippocrates used the smell of a patients breath as a diagnostic tool. It took many centuries for Linus Pauling in the 1970’s to begin to correlate the content of human breath to medical conditions. Research is continuing and it appears that in the near future we will be able to detect the presence of diabetes, some types of cancer and some viruses or bacteria such as anthrax, Salmonella or E.Coli. The technique measures the presence of acetone, ethanol, methanol, nitric oxide along with other chemicals as well as the ratios between them. The technique involves a single breath into the sensor and the response is immediate. It’s extremely low cost, rapid response and simplicity of the device could lead to much easier diagnosis of these problems and earlier, more effective treatment. fun facts KIDS CORNER Tooth Fairy Fun! $2.10 is the National average tooth fairies leave for a lost tooth, according to a 2012 poll.
