Elisabeth Nilsson
Landshövding i Östergötland
Dear visitors,
welcome to Östergötland, the beautiful county full of interesting sites to visit.
Östergötland is a county with a rich and exciting history, a county that encourage cultural activities of all kind.
The old small town Vadstena with the monastery church and the castle is a
treasure and unique because of it’s history and the character of the town.
The beautiful landscape, from the Baltic sea to lake Vättern is inviting for
tourists from all around the world. Our famous Linköping university is very
high ranked among students and scientists and of greatest importance for both
the business sector and the public sector.
We are very proud of being the dukedom of the newborn princess Estelle, the
daughter of crown princess Victoria and prince Daniel.
Take a walk in Industrilandskapet (Industrial Landscape) in Norrköping,
listen to the sound of Motala river, and enjoy the sound of the Norrköping
Symphony Orchestra.
I’m looking forward to meet you at the Wilhelm Stenhammar International
Music Competition 2014.

även i Sverige.
Eva Andersson
Kommunfullmäktiges ordförande, Norrköping
I am delighted to welcome the fifth edition of the Wilhelm Stenhammar International Music Competition to Norrköping.
The WSIMC has become a tradition and an important part of musical life in our city, and indeed in Swedish musical life
as well. The WSIMC therefore reinforces Norrköping´s position as the musical capital in our part of Sweden.
The competition takes place in our beautiful concert hall, the DeGeer Hall, right in the middle of the unique old industrial
landscape, where the old factory buildings today are filled with creativity in the form of art, entertainment, scientific
research, university education and entrepreneurship – all an expression of the transformation going on in our modern,
dynamic city.
A warm welcome to the talented singers, who have been selected to participate in the competition, and to all the other
performers, to the jury, to the press and to the audience.
With the best wishes for a successful Willhelm Stenhammar International Music Competition 2014.
Eva Andersson
Mayor of Norrköping
under tävlingsdagarna!
uppfattning Sveriges vackraste konsertsal!
Välkommen till spännande tävlingsdagar!

Ordförande
Sometimes you can be very fortunate! I have, for
several years, had the pleasure to be County Governor of Östergötland, where one of the “jewels”
My wish is that the fifth Stenhammarcompetition in June 2014, will be such a fantastic event
as all the earlier competitions!
Young talented and educated singers, may
here “try their wings” and exceed themselves in
front of an international, professional jury. They
have also a opportunity to become aware of their
own level, compared to all the other singers in
the competition.
After several years of demanding studies,
these young singers get a chance to start their
professional career.
Through contacts across the frontiers, we
share our cultures with each other – that enriches everybody and gives valuable development.
I´m looking forward to exiting days full of
experiences, in the sign of singing, and I hope
that we will have many listeners during the
competition days.
I will also send a warmly “Thank you” to everybody, who in different ways, are supporting
the competition – sponsors, contributors, and
other partners, who, by their generous support, have helped us to make The Stenhammar
Competition to an international music center
in the beautiful summertime in Sweden and
Norrköping!
Sonja Stenhammar
Artistic Director of WSIMC
is Norrköping – a city with roots far back in the
Swedish history.
To this can be added that I, since two years,
has the privilege to be the Chairman of the board
for The Wilhelm Stenhammar Foundation. By
that, I come close to an international competition
for classical music. It is a truly pleasure to work
together with such an innovator as Sonja Stenhammar, who with great power of initiative is an
excellent Artistic Director for the competition.
Our competition will give young talented
opera singers a possibility to perform and develop
and help in starting of their careers. At the same
time, the audience got a great opportunity to listen to high classical opera music in Norrköping,
a city, well known for pioneering spirit and
curiosity in culture.
In The World Federation of International
Music Competitions, The Wilhelm Stenhammar
Competition is highly respected, and considered as
one of the best singing competitions in the world.
Together with The Norrköping Symphony
Orchestra – one of the most exiting orchestras in
Sweden – we are now for the fifth time opening
the doors to De Geerhallen – by my opinion –
the most beautiful Concert Hall in Sweden!
Welcome!
