If these deteriorate, then the local economy also deteriorates. A strong, active Chamber of Commerce can do many things that would be difficult or expensive for individual businesses to do alone. Chamber Network News Merchant Alerts This online monthly newsletter provides current business & chamber information, updates on members, educational opportunities and a calendar of events We work closely with the Platteville Police Department and when they receive information about someone passing bad checks, they issue a “Merchant Alert” which we then forward on to all Chamber members. Publicity & Exposure Through our newsletter, Platteville Community Guide, and a wide range of Chamber membership events – such as Santa Bucks and the New Student Welcome, you gain exposure to hundreds of businesses in the Platteville and surrounding area. Being a chamber member validates your business to existing and new customers. Chamber Gift Certificates The Chamber issues over $35,000 in positively Platteville gift certificates each year. These certificates are only eligible at chamber member businesses. Regular updates are given to our members on who has been recently greeted. Platteville Community Guide Chamber Members only are listed for FREE in the Platteville Community Guide which is distributed throughout the Platteville community, the tri-state region, the state of Wisconsin, nationally and internationally. Public Affairs The Chamber works with partners on local, state and national issues that affect business and industry. Travel Wisconsin Welcome Center The Platteville Chamber office is also home to one of the seven Wisconsin Welcome Centers. Chamber Members are welcome to display their brochures/publications for free. The Wisconsin Welcome Center is open seven days a week from May through October and five days a week from November to April. Trained staff is knowledgeable about the area businesses, events and attractions. Chamber of Commerce Building & Katie’s Garden The Chamber owns our building and adjoining Katie’s Garden. The Chamber offices are staffed Monday-Friday from 8AM-5PM year round. P age |5 Basic Chamber Member Benefits Chamber Insignia This Owner’s Manual describes marketing opportunities you can take advantage of as a Chamber Member. Many of these opportunities are available only to Chamber Members. We encourage you to use as many as possible to help grow your business and your bottom line! Chamber Members are a select group of over 300 members. The Chamber insignia displayed in your business instantly communicates a high image message to clients and customers that says, “This business is committed to good business practices as well as to the community at large.” This powerful marketing message is one of the benefits you automatically receive with your membership. All-Call Email As a chamber member, you will receive up to the minute news about events and happenings within the chamber organization and in the community. Referrals Each year, the Chamber responds to over 20,000 phone calls, many of them requesting help in locating a needed product or service. Callers are referred to Chamber Member businesses. In addition, the Chamber does business with Chamber Members and encourages all members to do the same. Want to distribute pamphlets, business cards, or other pertinent sales information? Let us do that for you! As a Chamber Member, you can use our lobby space to promote your business and services on a daily basis. We’ll even give you a reminder call when your material runs low. Internet Visibility Within the Chamber’s website, www.platteville.com, all members are listed alphabetically and by business category. From these member listings, we offer free links to your website. P age |6 Chamber of Commerce Gift Certificates The Chamber issues a great number of “Positively Platteville Gift Certificates” in a year. In 2013 we issued over 1400 Gift Certificates with a value of $40,000 How to Redeem a Chamber Gift Certificate PLEASE ACCEPT FOR PURCHASES OR SERVICES ONLY AND TREAT THE CERTIFICATE AS YOU WOULD CASH. (Example: Customer presents a $50.00 chamber gift certificate as payment for a $20.00 purchase-you would treat the gift certificate just like a $50.00 dollar bill and give them $30.00 in cash back. This rule applies for any amount on the gift certificate or amount spent.) Please do not attempt to “rewrite” the Chamber gift certificate in any manner. When you make your deposit (at your financial institution), you will deposit the gift certificate just as you normally deposit checks and cash. Please note that these gift certificates expire five years from date of issue. Please be sure all of your employees are aware of the Chamber gift certificates and know the procedures for handling them. If you have any questions, call the Chamber office at 348-8888. We also encourage you to promote Chamber gift certificates whenever appropriate or possible. P age |7 Networking-Making Important Connections Business after Hours People like to do business with people they know! Chamber networking puts you in touch with other business people and community leaders. Each month, community members attend the Business After Hours to network and make connections. Each event offers an opportunity to get acquainted with other area business people and community leaders in the Platteville area. As a Chamber member you are continually informed of when and where these events are taking place. Also, you have the opportunity to host this great networking event and really showcase your business. Annual Golf Outing The Chamber’s annual golf outing, held in June, provides an opportunity for Member businesses to have some fun while spending quality time establishing relationships with other professionals in the Platteville area. This gives you an opportunity to interact with your peers in a more social setting. Luncheons Spend a quality hour of networking in one of our Member restaurants, getting to know more about other Chamber Members, as well as enjoying an update on a pertinent topic for your business. A wellattended event, the luncheon usually averages over 30 people each time. We sometimes feature luncheons that involve more of the community at large. Ribbon Cuttings and Ground Breakings The Chamber is pleased to coordinate an official Ribbon Cutting or Ground Breaking ceremonies for a new, expanding, or relocating business. Just make a call to the Chamber to set a date for this event. This is a great way to bring other people and community members into your business to make them aware of your products and services. Annual Celebration This annual banquet, held in the early part of the year, brings our members together to celebrate the successes of our Chamber businesses, individuals, and volunteers, while enjoying a funfilled evening with fellow Chamber Members. Annual awards and special recognition, as well as a recap of the previous year, are a highlight of the event, along with a fabulous meal and entertainment. Average attendance exceeds 100 people. Golf Outing Committee The Mission of the Golf Outing Committee is to organize an annual golf outing as a major fundraising activity for the Chamber. Education Committee The Education Committee strives to coordinate informative, low-cost educational opportunities and training in collaboration with our area partners for the benefit of all chamber members and their employees. Governmental Affairs Committee The Mission of the Governmental Affairs Committee is to educate the Chamber members with current local, state and federal issues that affect the business community. They offer forums for legislators to update Chamber members about issues. Ambassador Committees The Ambassador Committee is in charge of organizing the Annual Celebration along with attending the Ribbon Cuttings and Business After Hours. Marketing & Business Committee The Marketing and Business Committee is in charge of the Santa Buck’s promotion, along with promoting the Holidays in Platteville.
