1.0 Introduction
This manual provides instructions to install the ETS-Lindgren Med-Vizion™ MRI
Interior LED Lighting System. All Med-Vizion system components are designed for
indoor use and installation only.
Note: For assistance during the installation process or operations thereafter,
please contact ETS-Lindgren.
Before You Begin Installation
For the safe handling, installation, and operation of the Med-Vizion system, a
thorough review and understanding of the information in this manual must be
completed before starting the installation process.
WARNING: There are no serviceable components in the Med-Vizion
system.
Failure to properly install the Med-Vizion system per the instructions in
this manual will void your warranty. Attempting to repair or alter the
Med-Vizion system in any way will void your warranty.
WARRANTY
WARNING: Additional supports and/or hangers for the drop ceiling grids
on Med-Vizion fixture(s) are recommended and necessary in earthquake
zones or when required by local/state safety codes.
Always install Med-Vizion according to all local, state and national codes.
Other Important Safety Requirements and Precautions
WARNING: Power to the Med-Vizion system must be de-activated before
attempting to wire or service this product at any time. AC power is
removed by activation of the wall power switch. AC power cannot be
removed by use of the optional dimmer panel.

Make sure that all required safety equipment is present and all workers are familiar
with the local safety codes.

Observe proper precautions when working in an MRI suite. Always assume the
magnet is active.

Installation requires one separate 120 VAC branch circuit (rated at 20 Amps) to
power up to 28 ZXR fixture(s).

Class 2 wiring (e.g. for dimmer cables between the ZXR units).

The Med-Vizion system is not intended for use in air handling spaces.

1598, LUMINAIRE STANDARD (both US and Canadian Requirements).

The subcontractor/installer should secure permits with the appropriate authorities.

2.0 Pre-Installation Tasks
CAUTION: Before connecting any components, follow the information
provided in Introduction on page 5.
Product Delivery and Inspection
Note: Customer is responsible for any damage not reported within fifteen (15)
days of receipt of shipment.
Upon delivery, immediately unpack the Med-Vizion™ MRI Interior LED Lighting
System. Inspect the product to ensure that nothing is damaged and that all
components have been received. Immediately notify the freight company of any
damaged components. Damaged product must not leave the loading dock until the
shipper can verify claim.
Site Preparation
Before beginning site work, notify the business or construction manager of the
following:

Scope of work; include length of installation, any disruptions to electrical
service, and what specific hours of the day the installation is to be done.

Any safety requirements or conditions specific to the installation site.
Verification Before Installation
WARNING: Verify load capability as instructed in step 2 following this
warning. Any ceiling grid, ZXR fixture(s), or tile(s) falling onto a person(s)
or equipment in a room where the ZXR assembles have been installed
may cause serious injury or damage.
1. Clearance: A minimum clearance of 9 inches above the surface of the
drop ceiling is required for installation for every Med-Vizion light box. The
ZXR assembly rises 6 inches above the ceiling tile when installed.
2. Load capability: The ceiling grid must be capable of supporting the
combined weight of the ZXR fixtures. The installer is responsible for
verifying the load capability of the support grid.

3. Condition of the magnet: Confirm if the magnet has been energized.
Active MRI magnets produce extremely powerful magnetic fields that can
produce serious injury or death if proper safety precautions are not
followed.
Electrical Requirements

Circuits must be wired in accordance to all state and local electrical codes.

If any ZXR lamp senses an over-temperature condition, it will shut OFF. In order to
restore normal operation it will be necessary to reset the system by turning the
ZXR system power switch OFF, then ON again. If an optional dimmer control is
installed, turning the lamps off with the dimmer control WILL NOT restore the lamp
system properly.

If a dimmer module is made part of the Med-Vizion system, a standard 120VAC
outlet is required for dimmer power. The dimmer module power supply must be
installed outside of the MRI room.


For dimmer modules installed outside of the MRI room
(preferred location): A separate facility power filter is not required for the
dimmer module power supply.

For dimmer modules installed inside of the MRI room: Route the power
supply output through a PN254757 1amp/250V facility filter by means of
RJ45, RJ45 cable to the dimmer module location.
Commercial, incandescent, lighting dimmers, or fan speed controls
(electronic, phase angle) are not compatible with the ZXR lighting system.
Electronic, phase angle dimmer controls are not compatible with facility RF electric
filters nor will they operate the individual ZXR LED lamps.

3.0 Installation
WARNING: All tools must be approved for use in an MRI suite; always
assume the magnet is active.
CAUTION: Before installing any components, follow the safety
information provided in Introduction on page 5.
Note: Before installing any components, complete the steps in
Pre-Installation Tasks on page 9.
Required Tools and Materials (To Be Supplied by Customer)
The following items are recommended for the installation of the Med-Vizion™ MRI
Interior LED Lighting System:

Tape measure and ladder(s)

Wire strippers

Screwdrivers appropriate for hardware

Drill with hole-forming bit or saw appropriate for through-wall EMI dimmer
filter installation (optional)

Channel locks or adjustable wrench for EMI filter nut (optional)

Additional grid ceiling support wires as needed (must be non-ferrous)

1. With all wiring and conduit installed per the site architect’s direction, remove the
ceiling tile in which the Med-Vizion system is to be installed.
2. Find the center of the ceiling tile and cut a 6-3/4” diameter hole.

3. Insert two retractable bar hangers through the slots in the end of the plaster frame.
4. Remove ceiling tile adjacent to the space where the Med-Vizion lamp will be located.
Extend the end of the bar hangers to the sides of the ceiling tile and replace the tile
with the Med-Vizion lamp back into the ceiling grid by setting the hanger ends onto
the ceiling grid. The cut out of the hanger end interlocks with the grid framework.

5. Use sheet metal screws to further anchor the hanger ends to the ceiling grid. As an
alternative, the triangular tabs on the hanger ends can be bent over and
interconnected with the ceiling grid to secure the hanger ends.

6. Remove junction box cover plate, along with desired knockout for the filtered AC
mains.

7. Use EMT conduit/THHN wire and non-ferrous fitting for AC power to the junction box.
Do not use any flex metal conduit light drops (whips) to the individual lamps. All AC
power from the facility RF filter to each lamp must be in EMT conduit.

8. Wire incoming Hot, Neutral and Ground (3) wires into the junction box and replace
cover plate on the junction box.

Trim Ring Installation
Slide the trim ring into the fixture housing and position the spring wire clips within the
brackets located on the inside wall of the housing.
Note: If ceiling tile thickness is less than 0.75”, modify the spring wire clip by
bending it as shown in Figure 8. This will allow for additional space when
working with shallow ceiling tiles.

EMI Facility Filter Installation (To Be Supplied by Customer)
An EMI facility filter is designed to prevent EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) from
getting inside the MRI room. The EMI facility filter is NOT supplied as part of the
Med-Vizion system components and is not necessary for non-MRI applications.
The EMI filter and mounting hardware is supplied by the customer or specified RF
shield subcontractor. The EMI filter functionally eliminates electromagnetic
interference from entering the room. Mount the EMI facility filter according to
approved system layout documentation. The interconnection Class 1 wiring
(Lamp-To-Lamp) is customer supplied and must meet local electrical code
specifications. Refer to installation wiring diagram for ampacity requirements.

TO MOUNT RF FILTER TO SHIELD
1. Locate space in penetration panel area to place filter.
2. Using a hole saw that has the same O/D as the chase nipple O/D, gently cut through
the copper shielding.
Tip: Hand reverse rotate the hole-saw to cut through the copper. Once you have cut
through the copper, proceed to cut through the shield panel.
3. Using the hole saw cut through the plywood.
4. Clean off the copper surface where the chase nipple will pass through the shield
using Scotch-Brite™ pad or fine steel wool. Do not use sandpaper.
5. Mount filter; install a brass flange nut to one end of the chase nipple.
Insert chase nipple through shielded (top compartment). On the inside of the shield
secure the chase nipple with second brass flange nut, snug up, do not over tighten.
6. Secure bottom of the filter to the shield using 3/4" lag screws.
7. Make up electrical connections, connect ground wire to shield buss bar only.
Digital Dimmer Module Installation (Optional)
Note: Each dimmer module can support up to 16 ZXR lamps.

Use the following directions if the lighting system will use a digital dimmer module.
1. If dimmer is located outside of the shield: Run a RJ45 cable from the dimmer
power supply to the dimmer module.
Run a RJ45 cable from the dimmer module to the dimmer module RF filter.
Run a RJ45 cable from the shielded compartment of the filter, through the chase
nipple, to the first lamp in a lighting circuit.
Series connect RJ45 cables from the initial lamp to each successive lamp on the
circuit.
2. If the dimmer module is located inside of the shield: Locate the dimmer module
power supply outside the shield.
Run a RJ45 cable from the power supply to the dimmer module RF filter.
Run a RJ45 cable from the RF filter to the dimmer module.
Run a RJ45 cable from the dimmer module to the first lamp in a lighting circuit.
Series connect RJ45 cables from the initial lamp to each successive lamp on the
circuit.

Appendix A: Glossary of Terms
Med-Vizion Light Fixture
The mechanical/electrical subassembly comprised of the
ceiling plaster frame, LED driver box, and AX mains wiring
J-box. See Figure 1 on page 6.
Facility AC Power RF Filter
An RF filter assembly designed to prevent electromagnetic
interference (EMI) from getting inside the MRI room.

Provides 120
power directly to each individual ZXR
lamp fixture.
This filter is made part of the primary RF shield installation
and is not supplied with the ZXR lamp system.
Med-Vizion System
Power Switch
The electrical disconnect switch wired into the mains feed

Appendix B: Typical Wiring Schematics–ZXR System
Non-Dimming Installation
The ZXR system will install as a typical interior MRI lighting system. It will utilize a
standard EMI facility power filter for each independent lighting circuit. The following
schematic depicts a typical single circuit installation. Additional independent lighting
circuits will duplicate this schematic.

Optional Dimmer Installation
The optional dimmer components that are interconnected to the Med-Vizion system
are made up of a Remote Dimmer Panel (i.e. Dimmer Module), powered by a 12VDC
wall adapter (included), and Dimmer Facility Filter. They are directly wired into the
Med-Vizion system as shown in the pages that follow.

Dimmer Module/Power Supply Filter: Included with Dimmer
The dimmer EMI communication/power filter function is the same as the facility power
filters, in that it is designed to prevent EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) from
getting inside the MRI room. Note that this filter is required when:

Dimmer module external to the MRI room: Filter needed to provide control
information from the dimmer module to each ZXR lamp circuit.

Dimmer module internal to the MRI room: Filter needed to provide 12VDC
power from the externally installed 12VDC power supply to the dimmer
module installed within the MRI room.

The same 250747 1amp/240V communication/power filter is used for either
of the two dimmer locations detailed above.
Dimmer Wiring–External to MRI Room
The dimmer wiring arrangement differs depending on whether the control is to be
located in the control room or in the MRI suite.
1. If the dimmer control is to be located in the control room, position it at any convenient
location using a plastic single-gang switch box, minimum 3’’ deep.
2. Locate the power supply adapter at any convenient nearby 120VAC power outlet.
Route RJ45 cable from the power supply to the dimmer control box and route RJ45
cable to the dimmer control box and connect to either connection point on dimmer.
3. Install dimmer filter to the outside of the shield wall and attach install nipple to the
opposite side of panel with hex nut.
4. Important note: All RJ45 cables are to use the 568-B configuration. Pull a
standard RJ45 wire between the dimmer location and the signal filter located in the
equipment room. Since this is a Class 2 circuit, it is not necessary to run conduit for
this cable.
5. Connect Female RJ45 pigtail (Red) on the outside of room to the power filter, choose
the two wires labeled PWM Dimming Signal. The wire colors should be Green (-) and
Green/White (+). Terminate both ring terminals on the corresponding studs on the
filter. (Green/white) Line and (Green) Neutral studs. The two remaining wires labeled
12VDC Power will not be used.
Repeat the process inside the room using the (blue) RJ45 pigtail connector
(provided) to the filter inside the MRI room. Pull a standard Cat 5 patch cord from the
RJ45 pigtail connector to the nearest ZXR lamp. Connect all remaining lamps in
daisy chain fashion. See Figure 13 on page 23.

Note: Power supply lead and fixture lead can be plugged into either connection
point on switch.

Dimmer Wiring–Internal to MRI Room
1. If the dimmer control is to be located within the shield room, position it at any
convenient location using a plastic single-gang switch box, minimum 3’’ deep.
2. Locate the power supply adapter external to the MRI room at any convenient nearby
120VAC power outlet. Power supply should be placed as close as possible to the
location of the facility filters at the MRI penetration panel. Locating the specific power
supply outlet near the magnet’s penetration panel is highly recommended. Route
RJ45 patch cable to the power filter plug into the (Red) RJ45 pigtail (provided).
Note: The dimmer power supply cannot be installed inside the MRI room.

3. Attach the RJ45 pigtail to the filter; choose the 2 wires Labeled 12VDC Power. The
wire colors should be Blue and Blue/White. Terminate both ring terminals on the
corresponding studs on the filter. (Blue/white) Line and (Blue) Neutral studs. The two
remaining wires labeled PWM Dimming Signal will not be used.
Make the same connections on the inside of the filter using the (Blue) RJ45 pigtail;
route a patch cord to the dimmer, plug into either RJ-45 connector on the dimmer
control.
4. Important note: All RJ45 cables are to use the 568-B configuration. Route a
RJ45 cable from dimmer to the nearest ZXR lamp into the dimmer control box. Plug it
into RJ-45 connector on back of the dimmer control panel. Connect all remaining
lamps daisy chain fashion. See Figure 14 below.

ZXR, LED, Lamp Operation
1. Verify proper lamp operation by pressing the ON button. All lamps should light to full
ON.
2. Press the down arrow and the lamps should gradually begin to dim. They will hold the
present level when you release the button.
3. To save this setting, press the Save button. The blue windows will flash three times
to acknowledge the level is saved.
4. Pressing OFF should extinguish the lamps; Pre-set should restore the saved level;
ON should return to full brightness.

Appendix C: Warranty
Scope and Duration of Warranties
Seller warrants to Buyer that the Products to be delivered hereunder will be (1) free
from defects in material, manufacturing workmanship, and title, and (2) conform to
the Seller’s applicable product descriptions and specifications, if any, contained in or
attached to Seller’s quotation. If no product descriptions or specifications are
contained in or attached to the quotation, Seller’s applicable product descriptions and
specifications in effect on the date of shipment shall apply. The criteria for all testing
shall be Seller’s applicable product specifications utilizing factory-specified calibration
and test procedures and instruments.
All product warranties, except the warranty of title, and all remedies for warranty
failures are limited to three years.

Three Years
Any product or part furnished to Buyer during the warranty period to correct a
warranty failure shall be warranted to the extent of the unexpired term of the warranty
applicable to the repaired or replaced product.
The warranty period shall commence on the date the product is delivered to Buyer;
however, if Seller assembles the product, or provides technical direction of such
assembly, the warranty period for such product shall commence on the date the
assembly of the product is complete. Notwithstanding the foregoing, in the event that
the assembly is delayed for a total of thirty (30) days or more from the date of
delivery for any reason or reasons for which Seller is not responsible, the warranty
period for such product may, at Seller’s options, commence on the thirtieth (30th) day
from the date such product is delivered to Buyer. Buyer shall promptly inspect all
products upon delivery. No claims for shortages will be allowed unless shortages are
reported to Seller in writing within ten (10) days after delivery. No other claims
against Seller will be allowed unless asserted in writing within thirty (30) days after
delivery (or assembly if the products are to be assembled by Seller) or, in the case of
alleged breach of warranty, within the applicable warranty period.

Warranty Exclusions
Except as set forth in any applicable patent indemnity, the foregoing warranties are
exclusive and in lieu of all other warranties, whether written, oral, express, implied, or
statutory. EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY STATED ABOVE, SELLER MAKES NO
WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, BY STATUTE OR OTHERWISE, WHETHER
OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR
USE OR OTHERWISE ON THE PRODUCTS, OR ON ANY PARTS OR LABOR
FURNISHED DURING THE SALE, DELIVERY OR SERVICING OF THE
PRODUCTS. THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES WHICH EXTEND BEYOND THE
DESCRIPTION ON THE FACE HEREOF.
Warranty coverage does not include any defect or performance deficiency (including
failure to conform to product descriptions or specifications) which results, in whole or
in part, from (1) negligent storage or handling of the product by Buyer, its employees,
agents, or contractors, (2) failure of Buyer to prepare the site or provide an operating
environmental condition in compliance with any applicable instructions or
recommendations of Seller, (3) absence of any product, component, or accessory
recommended by Seller but omitted at Buyer’s direction, (4) any design, specification,
or instruction furnished by Buyer, its employees, agents or contractors, (5) any
alteration of the product by persons other than Seller, (6) combining Seller’s product
with any product furnished by others, (7) combining incompatible products of Seller,
(8) interference with the radio frequency fields due to conditions or causes outside
the product as furnished by Seller, (9) improper or extraordinary use of the product,
or failure to comply with any applicable instructions or recommendations of Seller
including maintenance, calibration and cleaning procedures and intervals, or (10)
acts of God, acts of civil or military authority, fires, floods, strikes or other labor
disturbances, war, riot, or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of Seller.
This warranty does not include (1) batteries, (2) cables, (3) gasket, (4) fingerstock, or
any item that is designed to be consumable. Seller does not warranty products of
others which are not included in Seller’s published price lists.
Buyer’s Remedies
If Seller determines that any product fails to meet any warranty during the applicable
warranty period, Seller shall correct any such failure by either, at its option, repairing,
adjusting, or replacing without charge to Buyer any defective or nonconforming
product, or part or parts of the product. Seller shall have the option to furnish either
new or exchange replacement parts or assemblies.
Warranty service shall be performed at the Seller’s factory, or the Buyer’s site at the
sole discretion of the Seller. Within the warranty period, the Buyer shall be
responsible for all transportation to the Seller’s factory, and the Seller shall be
responsible for transportation of goods to the Buyer’s site.

Within the contiguous 48 United States, warranty service performed during the
applicable warranty period will be performed without charge to Buyer during Seller’s
normal business hours. After the warranty period, service will be performed at
Seller’s prevailing service rates. Subject to the availability of personnel, after-hours
service is available upon request at an additional charge.
Outside the contiguous 48 United States, travel and per diem expenses, when
required, shall be the responsibility of the Buyer, or End User, whichever is applicable
regardless of the warranty period.
The remedies set forth herein are conditioned upon Buyer promptly notifying Seller
within the applicable warranty period of any defect or non-conformance and making
the product available for correction.
The preceding paragraphs set forth Buyer’s exclusive remedies and Seller’s sole
liability for claims based on failure of the products to meet any warranty, whether the
claim is in contract, warranty, tort (including negligence and strict liability) or
otherwise, and however instituted, and, upon the expiration of the applicable
warranty period, all such liability shall terminate. IN NO EVENT SHALL SELLER BE
LIABLE TO BUYER FOR ANY SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR
CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING OUT OF, OR AS A RESULT
OF, THE SALE, DELIVERY, NON-DELIVERY, SERVICING, ASSEMBLING, USE
OR LOSS OF USE OF THE PRODUCTS OR ANY PART THEREOF, OR FOR ANY
CHARGES OR EXPENSES OF ANY NATURE INCURRED WITHOUT SELLER’S
WRITTEN CONSENT DESPITE ANY NEGLIGENCE ON BEHALF OF THE SELLER.
IN NO EVENT SHALL SELLER’S LIABILITIES UNDER ANY CLAIM MADE BY
BUYER EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE PRODUCT IN RESPECT OF
WHICH DAMAGES ARE CLAIMED. This agreement shall be construed in
accordance with laws of the State of Texas. In the event that any provision hereof
shall violate any applicable statute, ordinance, or rule of law, such provision shall be
ineffective to the extent of such violation without invalidating any other provision
hereof.
Any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to the sale, delivery, non-delivery,
servicing, assembling, use or loss of use of the products or any part thereof or for any
charges or expenses in connection therewith shall be settled in Austin, Texas by
arbitration in accordance with the Rules of the American Arbitration Association, and
judgment upon the award rendered by the Arbitrator may be entered in either the
Federal District Court for the Western District of Texas or the State District Court in
Austin, Texas, all of the parties hereto consenting to personal jurisdiction of the
venue of such court and hereby waive the right to demand a jury trial under any of
these actions.
