Description
e2v linear sensors have been recognised for premium performance in OCT ophthalmologic applications for many years.
Thanks to the USB3 interface, these sensors are now available in a versatile and cost efficient configuration allowing an
easy integration into any ophthalmology system. The USB3 interface allows easy connection to recent laptops without
compromising any camera features or performance, and eliminates the need for expensive frame grabbers and cable
connections. The SM2 USB3 camera features full GPIO handling and extremely low power consumption”.

Triggering Modes
All the parameters relative to the Trigger and acquisition have been grouped below. The detail timing diagrams for each
trigger mode is available hereafter.
 ExposureTime : @1030 : 4 Bytes : Read-Write
Exposure Time internally counted: Only taken in account for the following Trigger modes : Free Run and Trigger Timed.
Value from 1 to 65535 (in µs)
 PeriodLine : @1034 : 4 Bytes : Read-Write
Line Period to be set in the Camera for the Free Run Trigger mode only.
Value from min to 65535 (in µs)
Minimum value that can be set is:
 1024 pixels sensor : 19µs
 2048 pixels sensor : 37µs
 TriggerMode : @103C : 4 Bytes : Read-Write
Set the Exposure Trigger Mode for the Camera. The following modes are available :
 0x00 : Free Run. Internal Line Trigger (PeriodLine) and Internal Exposure count (ExposureTime)
 0x01 : Trigger Timed. External Line Trigger and Internal Exposure count (ExposureTime)
 0x02 : Trigger Controlled. External Line Trigger. Low level of this Trigger is used to count the Exposure Time.
 0x03 : Trigger Max Exposure. External Line Trigger. Exposure time is the maximum Time available between two
trigger pulses.
4 different modes are provided using the line trigger and the frame trigger. The line trigger is used to control the exposure
phase while the frame trigger resets the line counter value (which can be provided at the end of the line as metadata).
In triggered modes a line is readout after a line trigger. After sending the number of lines set by in the corresponding register,
the camera stops sending data until the next rising edge of the frame trigger.
Free run mode
This is a periodic mode where the exposure time is set by program in the range 1µs to 65000µs.
18

e2v semiconductors SAS 2014
AVIIVA SM2 OCT USB3
Triggered mode with exposure time set
The rising edge of the line trigger starts the exposure and the exposure time is set by program in the range 1µs to 65000µs. If
a new rising edge of the line trigger occurs before the end of integration it is not used and considered as lost.
Triggered mode with exposure time defined by the trigger
The falling edge of the line trigger starts the exposure and the exposure time is defined by the low level of the trigger. If a new
rising edge of the line trigger occurs before the end of the previous readout it is not used and considered as lost.
Triggered mode with maximum exposure time
The rising edge of the line trigger starts the exposure and the exposure time is set by the time between two successive rising
edges of the line trigger. If a new rising edge of the line trigger occurs before the end of the previous readout it is not used
and considered as lost.

 0x00 : Disable
 0x01 : Enable
The rising edge of the frame trigger resets the line counter. The data readout depends on the exposure mode selected (with
or without Line Trigger signal). A new frame trigger in acknowledged provided the programmed line number has been
readout, otherwise the frame trigger is ignored.

APPENDIX A: Test Patterns
Test Pattern 1: Fixed Horizontal Ramps
The test pattern 1 is a stationary pattern where every line has the same pattern. The data starts from 0 up to a value
depending on the number of pixels and the pixel width.
In 1K pixels 8 bits the data is incremented every 16 pixels and the level reaches 63.
In 1K pixels 12 bits the data is incremented every pixel and the level reaches 1023.
In 2K pixels 8 bits the data is incremented every 16 pixels and the level reaches 127.
In 2K pixels 12 bits the data is incremented every pixel and the level reaches 2047.
7.2
Test Pattern 2: Vertical wave
The Test pattern 2 is a vertical moving wave: each new line will increment of 1 gray level in regards with the previous one.


22
In 8 bits the data is incremented every 16 pixels and the level reaches 255 before switching down to 0
In 12 bits the data is incremented every pixel and the level reaches 4095 before switching down to 0
