Please be advised: Important Health Information
•
The State of Michigan requires re8vaccination of any child, if the initial date of his/her
vaccination is in doubt. We encourage you to check with your pediatrician as this relates to
your child(ren).
•
If your child has specific allergies (bee stings, grass, food, etc.) please notify us before the start
of camp. This information will be shared with the camp nurse and your child’s counselor.
•
Before camp begins, please notify the camp nurse if your child requires special medication
arrangements. A form must be submitted with all medications given to the camp nurse. The
nurse will be present at all times during camp hours and is available to address any medical
issues. This form is available at http://wbcamp.jccdet.org/wp8
content/uploads/2013/06/medication8form.pdf
•
If your child is sick in the morning, please do not send him/her to camp, and notify us of their
absence.
•
Children who have had a fever should remain at home until their temperature is normal for
24 hours.
•
The camp staff always has your child’s best interest in mind. If we find that your son or
daughter is not well enough to remain at camp, we will call and ask you to take your child
home.
•
We will notify you immediately in case of an emergency.
emergency. If we cannot reach you, we will call
your emergency contact.
contact.
Medication
•
Upon arrival at camp, children must give all medication to their unit head supervisor. The
unit head will then transfer the medicine to the nurse, who is in charge of storing and
dispensing all medication during camp.
•
Medicine must be in its original container, with the camper’s name on it, and directions must
be on the bottle. Parents also are required to send a signed medication form describing how
and when medicine should be administered (the form is available online at
http://wbcamp.jccdet.org/wp8content/uploads/2013/06/medication8form.pdf or in the camp
office). If a change in medication is to occur, please notify us.
•
Parents are responsible for picking up medication from the camp office at the end of each
session.
5
Communication
Effective communication between camp, parents and the campers is important, and we will send
weekly e8newsletters to keep you informed. We also welcome and encourage communication from
you. Please keep in mind that camp is only eight weeks long, and it is best to address any questions as
soon as they arise.
If your child expresses any concerns about camp, or if any situations occur at home that may affect
your child, please contact the camp office via email [email protected] or phone 248843285578.

Lost and Found
All misplaced items will be brought to the Lost and Found, located in the Teen Center and accessible
during camp.
Please be sure to mark your child’s name (first and last) on every item he/she brings. All clothing
unclaimed at the end of the program will be laundered and sent to a charitable organization.
6
Accommodating Campers with Different Abilities
The Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit is committed to providing an inclusive
environment, so all children, regardless of their strengths or challenges are part of the camp
community.
The director of Special Needs programs and support staff will be available throughout the summer,
but it is up to all of us to help each child feel comfortable and welcome.
Rainy Days (“Liquid Sunshine!”)
It does rain occasionally. Campers in Chaverim, Keshet and B’yachad are outdoors in shaded areas
unless conditions are severe (heat advisories or storms), so if rain is predicted, please send your child
with a raincoat and a complete change of clothing.
If thunderstorms threaten, campers will move inside and absolutely no swimming will be allowed in
the outdoor pool. Pick up and drop off locations will be adjusted to keep the campers safe.
Swimming
The Center Day Camps swim program is operated under the guidelines of the Center’s Aquatics
Department and the Red Cross Swim Program. Safety, swimming skills and a positive self8image are
the primary goals.
•
Based on water and air temperature, the aquatics director will determine whether children
will swim each day.
•
Each camper will be assessed for the swim level and assigned to the appropriate instructional
group. You will receive an evaluation midsummer regarding your child’s swimming
progress.
•
If your child is unable to swim on a certain day, please send a note.
•
For questions about the swim program, contact Ronda Brodsky, aquatics director,
[email protected].
Snacks
Each day campers will receive a PM snack, and on Fridays a special Shabbat treat is given. For the
health and safety of all our campers, snacks are kosher and nut8free.
In response to the health and safety needs of our campers, Center Day Camps are nut sensitive.
Please help us by not sending any nut products, or food items containing nuts or nut products, in
lunches or snacks.
Birthdays (We love them!)
If your child would like to celebrate a birthday at camp, please notify our office at least one week in
advance. Any food that will be served to other campers must be pre8packaged, kosher and nut8free.
(If you need assistance identifying such products, please contact the camp office). Be sure to include
7
enough party paper goods (plates, napkins, forks, spoons, etc.) for your child’s entire bunk. This
special treat will be offered at the end of the day during snack time and Afternoon Ruach.

go to the camp office for prearranged early pick8up times.
