The strike action has now been cancelled and all schools including JRCS will be open as normal on Tuesday 14th October. Sixth Form Open Evening I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all our Year 11 parents who came along to the Sixth Form Open Evening with their sons or daughters on Thursday Evening. I am sure that you found the event informative and that it helped give a clear idea of the range of courses available in our fantastic Sixth Form. Mr Smith Headteacher GENERAL NEWS Jo Richardson has ‘wonderful’ Sports Leaders On Thursday 2nd October, Miss Boulton and I and 30 Year 10 Sports Leaders were involved in helping to organise and run the Borough Primary Cross Country event in Mayesbrook Park. As part of the Sports Leaders Award, students have to act as officials and, following a rehearsal on our own school field, the students acted as Course Marshals, Hare and Sweep, (running at the front and behind the racers to keep them on track), finish officials and results officials. It was a very busy afternoon for everyone, especially those handling the results. Our students did an amazing job and were described by Elaine Burgess (one of the event organisers) as ‘wonderful leaders’. Very well done to the following students for representing the school in such a positive way: Oreoluwa Olayinka, Pamela Dicko, Malcom Ennin, Kelechi Ogbonna, Aydin Phillips, Chris Randall, Sarah Singleton, all 10E, Kerri Edwards, Mahtab Kailey, William Sach all 10F, Ella Brookes, Lilly Cooper, Maisie Edmead, Safia Essa, Leanna Garrett, Oritsetimeyin Jaconmi, Maisie Edmead, Louise Toms, Danica Wells, all 10G, and Marien Balla, Annie-Marie Gullefer, Jack Knight, Laia-Louise Marsden, Jessica O’Rourke, Oliver O’Sullivan, Tamikka-Lee Padmore, Maddie Ramsey, Ellie Sanderson, Moyin Adetoye, Lewis Smith, all 10H. Thanks also goes to Miss Boulton who did a fantastic job with the results table team! Ms Montague PE Teacher Year 7 Geography Students We are planning on taking the Year 7 students to Barking to learn about the new developments over the next few weeks. This will take place during their lessons. Students have been given stickers to put into their planners on the relevant dates. For the students to attend this trip, parents/carers need to sign next to this sticker to provide parental permission. Thank you for your help and support. Mrs Davids Second in Geography Year 7 Netball News Charity Fundraiser On Saturday 4th October students from the Jo Richardson Community School participated in the charity event at the May and Baker Sport Social Club to support Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Sheryl Taylor. Post 16 students Lauren Brent, Aston McCoy, Ashleigh Brown, Job Ford, Charlie Rogers, Danny Nicholls, Joe Morris, James Haynes, Joe Brand and Jordan Dunn, along with Year 11 boys Harvey Patching and Charlie Pulham, all took part in this event. They arrived at 11.00am to help set up individual stalls and left the event at 4.00pm. The individual stalls consisted of the Bottle Raffle, Hook a Duck, Golden Treasure and Play your Cards Right which the business students organised to help raise money and support this cause. In addition to the event, the students also sold charity wrist bands in school. Overall they successfully raised over £550 for this charity. Several members of staff also helped out and brought their families along. The Year 7 netball team have had their first taste of competition. Their first match was against Warren School last Thursday. They were losing after the first quarter, but then worked well as a team and pulled level by half time. Then they won each quarter after that and stopped Warren from scoring any further goals. The final score was JRCS 4 – Warren 2. A great effort by all team members. Players of the match: Danielle Nnadi 7F, Ire Ajola 7F and Silvia Martin 7E. They continued this winning run when they played Barking Abbey on Monday this week. A close fought game, which was always within one goal, but another strong five minutes in the second half meant JRCS forged ahead with three minutes to go, and the final score being 6-4. Player of this match was Joy Osayiwu 7F. Ms Wilkinson PE Department We would like to thank Mrs Hart and her daughter, Miss Millar, Mrs Richardson, Mrs Wright and Tina McCoy for all the help they provided. We would also like to thank everyone who donated and contributed to our Bottle Raffle. A special mention needs to be given to Gale Street Florists. They arrived at the event with a beautiful flower display for the raffle. We really appreciate their continued support. Gale Street Florist Ltd 519 Gale St, Dagenham, Essex, RM9 4TP Tel: 020 8595 3834, http://www.galestreetflorist.com/ Finally, we would like to congratulate Rob Taylor on such a successful event. Even though the weather was not on our side, he still managed to pull it off! Miss Howe Assistant Headteacher French Homework If you have tried to complete your French homework and you are still struggling with it, please come and see Mademoiselle Buffon in MFL 2 on Wednesday lunchtimes (1.302.00pm) to get the extra boost you need and to avoid getting detentions from your French teacher. KS3 and KS4 students of French are welcome. A bientôt Mademoiselle Buffon Head of MFL Read on! Students! Did you know you can see if your personal books have a quiz on Accelerated Reader? Just go to: www.arbookfinder.co.uk to see if your book is on the AR Quiz list. Remember, the more quizzes you take, the more points you earn, and points make prizes! Please See Ms Osland or Miss Higgins for any more information. Don’t forget Ms Osland has been working hard to colour co-ordinate those books in the library that all have quizzes. The colours mean they have quizzes! So go earn yourself some points today. JRCS are now collecting vouchers from the Morrison’s Let’s Grow scheme. We will redeem these for gardening equipment and seeds for the Peace Garden which is now under construction. Please drop them into the box at the School Office. Thank you.
