Message From the President
Jamie Calkins, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management
Saying goodbye is never easy, especially to someone as special as Samantha Bishop. Mrs. Bishop has
played an important role in reshaping our Chamber of Commerce and redefining how we operate as
an organization. Thank you so very much for your hard work and dedication! We wish you the best
both professionally and personally as you move into your new position with the City of Edgewater.
While we will miss the day-to-day interaction with you - you've been an indispensable part of our
team - we know you will continue to do well and achieve major milestones. We certainly look forward
to working with you, albeit in a different capacity. We will still share the same goals: to improve our
local businesses and promote economic development in the communities that we serve.
The Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Committee is diligently working to fill the Executive Vice
President position and are confident that we will find an ideal leader. We
hope to build upon Mrs. Bishop’s successes and keep the momentum going.

It has truly been an honor to have served as your Executive Vice
President for the past four years. I want to thank the Executive
Committee from 2010 who took a chance on someone that they didn’t
C
even know and hired me, anyway. I only hope that you are all proud of
e
yyourselves for having the courage to make such a big decision and that
yyou are happy with the state of the Chamber today. My philosophy with
aany job is “to leave it better than I found it”. I feel as I have accomplished
tthat goal. I also want to thank my family and friends, who have
supported me and helped me through very long weeks, a lot of late meetings and some very tough
decisions. I couldn’t have accomplished any of the goals without your support! I also want to thank
my colleagues at the Chamber, our front desk volunteers, vendors, Committee Chairs, Committee
Members and Board of Directors. Your passion, dedication and trust in me have honestly humbled
me in so many ways. You all ARE the Chamber of Commerce and I thank you! We have made some
great strides in uplifting the business climate here in Southeast Volusia and we have also made some
great lifelong friends along the way!
