pursuanceofaJuly2011SupremeCourtjudgment.
4. RBIsimplifiesKYCnormsforopeningbankaccount:Customersneedtosubmitonlyonedocumentaryproofofaddress
—eithercurrentorpermanent—whileopeningabankaccountorwhileundergoingperiodicupdation,theReserveBank
ofIndia.“Incasetheaddressmentionedasper‘proofofaddress’undergoesachange,freshproofofaddressmaybe
submittedtothebranchwithinsixmonths,”theRBIsaidinanotificationtobanks.
Noproofisrequiredtobesubmittedforsuchaddressforcorrespondence/localaddress,”theRBIadded.

applicableto"allscheduledcommercialbanksinIndia,includingforeignbankshavingbranchesinIndia".
Alltheaccountsopenedearlieras'no‐frills'accountshouldberenamedasBSBDA.Banksarerequiredtoconverttheexisting
'no‐frills'accounts’into'BasicSavingsBankDepositAccounts'.
The'BasicSavingsBankDepositAccount'shouldbeconsideredasanormalbankingserviceavailabletoallcustomers,through
branches.
