KEYNOTE DETAILS
The ongoing quest for a microwave distributed
structure that replicates the action of a centretapped transformer at low frequencies has been
a long one. Recent interest in using push-pull
techniques to implement broadband RF power
amplifiers at GHz frequencies has resulted in
further rounds of research papers and patents. The
vast majority of work on microwave baluns stems
from a seminal article by Mr. Marchand, dating from
the late 1940s. This talk will review the Marchand
balun and its evolution into modern microwave
system implementations.

SPECIAL SESSION DETAILS
The aim of this two-hour short course is to show,
through a practical measurement session, the
main features and applications of a system for the
measurement of waveguide devices operating in
a multimodal regime. This can be used both for
components working over a band wider than one
octave, such as low-pass filters and for devices
based on either higher-order modes or multimodal
waveguides, such as rotary joints, OMTs, and horns.

EDA PANEL DETAILS
Microwave Journal, EDI CON 2015, and PoweRFul
Microwave coordinate a one-hour round-table panel
discussion among leading EDA vendors on how to
help designers solve the complex RF/microwave
simulation tasks undertaken in the design of
MMICs and RFICs for space and other E-band
communication applications. Panelists will discuss
design entry and project management, process
design kits (PDKs), EM simulation/modeling, various
types of RF-specific analyses, third-party integration,
and the role EDA companies play in providing
engineering support and training programs.
