Manufacturers of packaging machines have always been pioneers
when it comes to the use of new automation technologies. During
the last few years, they have been able to increase the productivity
and flexibility for even smaller batch sizes. This continuing trend
will eventually lead to a generational change in the field of packaging machines. The packaging machines of the next generation are
cabinet-free, adaptive, simple, efficient and ready for Connected
Industry. What appeared unfeasible only a few years ago, has
come into reach through progress in automation technology.
Rexroth has always met the market requirements and redefined
automation technology for packaging machines with numerous
hardware and software innovations over the last three years. At
the time of the interpack 2014, many machine builders already
benefit from the new Rexroth technologies to set themselves apart
from the competition with innovative solutions.
One well-established machine manufacturer will present the first
cabinet-free packaging machine worldwide at interpack 2014.
The machine is based on Rexroth’s cabinet-free drive system
IndraDrive Mi. The highlight: the servo-drives can be directly
mounted to and integrated into the machine with all the necessary
components, such as a power supply and mains module. The
result: A control cabinet is no longer required – one of countless
examples, how we turn our versatile solutions into innovations.

The First Cabinet-Free
Packaging Machine
The Gerhard Schubert GmbH, located in Crailsheim, Germany, once
more expands the capabilities of the highly versatile TLM packaging
technology. The latest TLM generation makes its debut at the interpack: the prototype of the first cabinet-free packaging machine
worldwide, realized with the new enhanced cabinet-free drive
technology IndraDrive Mi by Rexroth, which also premieres at the
trade fair.

Since the introduction of Transmodul in 2009, about 2,500 transport
robots have been put into service at TLM packaging machines. They
transport products and boxes or support the automatic tool change.

Strong in Packaging
As a global supplier of different automation solutions B&B Automation s.r.l., Italy, has established itself as a best in class solution

novelty: the double spiral conveyor, which operates on two parallel
lanes, where products go up on a track and go down on the other.
67 percent of the flour sold worldwide is produced with machines
from Bühler AG. The Maia bagging station MWPG sets new standards: It guarantees a high output of up to 900 bags per hour for
powdery products with persistent filling accuracy and continuous,
low-dust bagging. The machine works with powerful and energyefficient Rexroth servomotors.

of confectionery processing machines. With its broad application

Delta Robots – Revolving
Design for higher Performance
Flexible Automation for

A team of the Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, developed
a revolving driven delta robot for high-speed applications. Compared
to the conventional pivoting system, the robot can provide 25 percent higher speed and allows for 50 percent higher loads. Within a
start-up oriented background the research team has set new standards based on the Rexroth automation system IndraMotion MLC and
engineering support.
Bosch Packaging Technology, situated in Waiblingen, Germany,
brought 40 years of deep-drawing experience into the development
of the thermoforming machine TFC and especially turned its attention to the operating height, accessibility and hygienic design. The
TFC is based on a consistent automation concept by Bosch Rexroth,
which allows for significantly faster format adjustments during
product changes.

The Sigpack TTP Pharma Toploader is based on a modular concept
which offers countless cartoning possibilities and consists of a base
module which contains the main functions of a top loader and

Bosch Packaging Technology in Viersen, Germany, builds machines

high speed single-head capper
Penta Robotics B.V., Netherlands, has developed in close cooperation with universities the ‘Veloce’, a modular construction and a
unique rotation drive solution, as a remarkable flexible device with
less wear and tear, better performance and lower maintenance
costs. Rexroth provides the complete automation solution for outstanding cycle performance, precision and belt synchronization.
The parallel robot is controlled completely by a smart device.
CMI, Italy, designs and builds machinery for bottling, capping,
labeling and case-packing throughout the industrial process, from
the arrival of the liquid at the plant to its display at the point-of-sale.
In cooperation with Rexroth, CMI developed Miray, a completely
automatic single-head capper that can be installed on pre-existing
packaging lines. The machine is suitable for bottle closure using a
vast array of caps.

allow for format and product

The new cabinet-free drive technology IndraDrive Mi can be adapted
to individual conditions unlike virtually any other decentralized drive
system. This makes it ideally suited for use in all modular machines –
for maximum flexibility in the smallest of spaces.
With the compact IndraDrive Cs drive system, Rexroth is expanding
the lower power range of the IndraDrive drive platform that has

characteristic curve or alternatively vectorcontrolled operation,

In the new electromechanical cylinder EMC you will notice the high
system competence of Rexroth in every detail, thanks to the resolute
integration of our proven proprietary technologies. The result is an
actuator whose external geometry and mode of operation is equivalent to a pneumatic cylinder, which, however, is much more energy
efficient and flexible. In many industries this makes it more than just
an alternative to fluid power systems.
The Omega Module OBB from Rexroth enables improved dynamics
with higher loads over longer distances. The stationary drive makes
it ideal for immersing in large workspaces in any mounting position.
