Wisconsin Women and Families need an Attorney General they can Trust
Susan Happ will be that AG and a strong advocate for women and families
The person who sits in the Attorney General’s office can have a huge impact on the health and wellbeing
of women across Wisconsin. Over the last three years, Wisconsin’s Attorney General has expended
thousands in tax payer dollars to uphold unconstitutional laws that could have eliminated most abortion
services in Wisconsin. Judges in both the state and federal courts have consistently ruled against the
Wisconsin Attorney General’s position and similar laws have been struck down in other. With the
upcoming debate on Sunday between the Attorney General candidates, PPAWI issued a reminder to
voters about the importance of the Attorney General’s race on women’s health.
“The Attorney General can be an important advocate for women and families or work to make lives of
Wisconsin families more difficult,” stated Tanya Atkinson, Executive Director for PPAWI. “Voters need to
know the significant differences between Brad Schimel who opposes a woman’s access to abortion
services, even in cases of sexual assault; and Susan Happ who will protect a woman’s ability to make her
own health care decisions.”
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin encourage voters to learn more about the AG candidates
and calls on the debate hosts to ask the candidates important questions about how they will advocate
for women and families if elected:



Do you support Roe v. Wade as current law, which protects a pregnant woman’s ability to make
her own decision about whether to choose adoption, end a pregnancy or raise a child?
Birth control is basic women’s health care, essential to good maternal and child health
outcomes and important to women’s economic status. Unfortunately, the current political
environment has subject birth control options to multiple restrictions and barriers which make it
more difficult to obtain. Will you protect greater access to high quality and affordable birth
control, including Wisconsin’s current law that requires insurance companies to cover birth
control prescriptions?
Will you continue the current Attorney General’s crusade to eliminate access to safe and legal
abortion in Wisconsin?
“We know we can trust Susan Happ because she believes that a woman- not politicians should make her
own decisions about her healthcare. Susan understands that women need better access to health care,
and opposes politically motivated barriers that stand in the way of women’s health.”
