x e l 5 f 1 e S p a U M P Low modulus polyurethane sealant for joints WHERE TO USE Mapeflex PU S15 is a sealant specifically developed for sealing internal and external vertical expansion and construction joints. Mapeflex PU S15 complies with EN 15651-1 standards (sealants for internal and external facade elements) and has a declared performance rating of F-EXT-INT CC (including in cold climates). Mapeflex PU S15 is classified F - 25 LM according to ISO 11600 standards. Some application examples Sealing internal and external joints with movements due to compressive loads and expansion of up to 25% the average width of joints in: • facades on civil and industrial buildings; cartridges for use with a manual or pneumatic silicone gun. Thanks to its particular consistency, application and finishing of the sealant in vertical joints from 5 to 40 mm is quick and easy. Before painting over Mapeflex PU S15 it must be fully polymerised. We recommend using elastomeric paint such as Elastocolor Paint after treating the surface of the sealant with Colorite Performance. Always carry out preliminary tests to make sure the sealant and paint are compatible. RECOMMENDATIONS • Do not use on dirty, greasy, stained or loose substrates. • precast concrete panels; • Do not apply on damp or wet substrates. • general sealing work in the building industry where thixotropic sealant is required. • Do not apply on bitumen substrates. TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS Mapeflex PU S15 is a one-component, low modulus, thixotropic polyurethane sealant developed by the MAPEI Research & Development laboratories. Mapeflex PU S15 polymerises by reacting with the moisture in the surrounding air or substrate and, thanks to its special characteristics, remains highly durable over the years. The product is ready to use and is supplied in 600 ml • Do not apply if the surrounding temperature or the temperature of the substrate is lower than +5°C. • The original colour may fade if exposed to UV rays. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Preparation of the substrate All surfaces to be sealed must be dry and compact and must have no traces of dust, slurry, oil, form-release compound or old paint. To make sure the sealant functions correctly, the size of the joint must be ex 5 l f peU S1 a M P TECHNICAL DATA (typical values) PRODUCT IDENTITY Classification according to EN 15651-1: F-EXT-INT CC Consistency: thixotropic paste Colours available: off-white, grey 113 (cement grey); other colours available on request Density (g/m³): 1.47± 0.07 Dry solids content (%): 100 Brookfiled viscosity at +23°C (mPa·s): 700,000 ± 100,000 (spindle F - 5 RPM) APPLICATION DATA (at +23°C and 50% R.H.) WIDTH/DEPTH RATIO width of joint depth of sealant up to 10 mm equal to the width from 10 to 20 mm always 10 mm from 20 to 40 mm equal to the half the width The sealant must only stick to the sides of the joint without touching the bottom. To obtain the correct depth for the sealant and prevent it sticking to the bottom of the joint, press a length of Mapefoam closedcell, foam polyethylene cord down into the joint. Mapefoam is available in a range of diameters depending on the width of the joint to be sealed. Mapeflex PU 15 has the capacity of compensating movements of up to ± 25% the width of the joint. To prevent sealant going along the edges of the joint and to get a perfect finish to the sealant, we suggest applying masking tape along the edges of the joint and then removing it immediately after smoothing over the surface of the sealant. Mapeflex PU S15 adheres well to absorbent, compact, clean, dry substrates even if primer is not applied on the surface beforehand. We suggest applying Primer M on loose substrates and on substrates that are subjected to high deformations or immersion in liquids for prolonged periods. We recommend using Primer M on absorbent materials with high residual moisture content. We also recommend using it on non-absorbent substrates such as metal, steel, aluminium, copper, ceramic, glass and galvanized or painted steel sheet. Application of Primer M Brush-apply a thin, even coat of Primer M one-component polyurethane primer for absorbent and non-absorbent substrates. The sealant must only be applied when the primer is dry to the touch (after around 40 minutes at +23°C and 50% R.H.) Preparation and application of Mapeflex PU S15 Use a manual or pneumatic silicone gun for 600 ml cartridges. Extrude the quantity of sealant required into the joint without entraining air. Consumption Consumption depends on the width and depth of joint to be sealed. See the table below for approximate consumption figures: YIELD PER 600 ML CARTRIDGE section of sealant in mm meters per 600 ml cartridge 5x5 24 10 x 10 6 15 x 10 4 20 x 10 3 25 x 12.5 1.9 30 x 15 1.3 Smoothing the sealant To get a perfect finish and guarantee the functionality of the sealant, remove any excess product and smooth over the surface with a suitable tool dipped in soapy water. Cleaning Remove Mapeflex PU S15 from the edges of joints, tools and hands before it polymerises with toluene or alcohol. After curing, hardened sealant must be removed mechanically or with Pulicol 2000. Packaging Boxes of twenty 600 ml cartridges. Colours available Mapeflex PU S15 is available in off-white and grey 113 (cement grey). Other colours are available on request. Storage Mapeflex PU S15 may be stored for up to 12 months in a cool, dry place (+5/+25°C 50% R.H.). SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARATION AND APPLICATION Mapeflex PU S15 is hazardous and may cause sensitization if inhaled.
