Education Committee Seeks Members
The Wilde Lake Village Board is seeking members for the Education
Committee, whose mission is “to establish ongoing communication
with each of the Wilde Lake schools and to advocate before county
officials for sufficient resources for their needs”. If you are interested in

Columbia Senior Circle – Special Event
Join Howard County Police PFC. Andre Lingham for a “Fraud and
Scams” presentation followed by a question and answer session on
Tuesday, October 21, at 10:30am, at Historic Oakland. The Columbia
Senior Circle is sponsored by the Villages of Columbia and meets the
2nd and 4th Tuesdays Each Month at 10:30 a.m.—12:00 p.m. at

The Board meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30pm at Slayton

The CA Board of Directors will be hosting
"Columbia Speaks. CA Listens," a community
input meeting that will be held on Saturday,
Oct. 18, at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center
(located off Trumpeter Road across from Wilde
Lake High School). The meeting will go from
9:30 a.m. to noon. Facilitators will help
moderate the meeting and guide discussions.

Open Space Committee Needs
Members
Open space has been a defining aspect of
Columbia, from its inception. As residents we
have the desire to keep open space a place we
want to enjoy and use. As time has progressed,
changes have occurred in the open space within
the Village of Wilde Lake. The Wilde Lake
Village Board has commissioned a committee to
address the concerns you, the residents of
Wilde Lake, have with respect to open space. If
you would like to participate in this venture,
and/or have comments/ideas about open

COVENANT NEWS
The RAC (Resident Architectural Committee)
meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the
month. Applications for exterior alterations
received by the date of the meeting will be
reviewed at the following meeting. Applications

Tutors and Mentors Wanted
A-OK Mentoring-Tutoring, Inc. seeks adult
volunteers to provide encouragement and support
to students who are struggling to succeed.
Volunteers work with students individually or in
small groups, one hour/week during the school day
or in after-school programs. Volunteer mentortutors receive training and ongoing support. A-OK
partners with the following elementary schools:
Atholton, Bryant Woods, Cradlerock, Deep Run, Forest
Ridge, Guilford, Hammond, Longfellow, Phelps Luck,
Running Brook, Stevens Forest, and Swansfield. To learn

Young Engineers and Scientist Seminars
Know a high school student that is interested in science
or engineering? Send them to the Young Engineer and
Scientist Seminars at the National Electronics Museum
near BWI airport. YESS is a free opportunity for high
school students to meet some of the area’s finest
engineers as well as participate in weekly team
engineering contests for a chance to earn prizes. Four
seminars will be offered on Wednesdays through the
month of October (8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th). A pizza
dinner is served from 6pm to 6:30pm with speakers and
challenges following until 8:30pm. Go

A Run Through Downtown Columbia
A new and different 5K Race and 1-mile Fun
Run, right in the heart of Downtown Columbia
takes place on Sunday, October 19. The 5K race
course takes runners through the landmarks of

Shredding Event – Saturday, October 18
Howard County residents can bring up to 3 bags
or boxes of paper to be shredded on-site at
Meadowbrook Park & Ride (exit 1A off of Route
100). This event is from 9am to 1pm and will be

announced its deer management program

Fighting Hunger in Howard County
Please remember our neighbors in need by
donating to the Howard County Food Bank. Run
by the Community Action Council of Howard
County, the Food Bank serves more than 23,000
residents. Donations are accepted MondayFriday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at 8920 Route 108,
Columbia 21045. Or you may donate online .
Current items needed are: soup, rice, beans,
tuna, peanut butter, cereal, jam/jelly,

Harper’s Choice is hosting a letter writing event

and women deployed overseas during

County Commission for Women will be
collecting feminine hygiene products for needy
women in our community. A collection box has
been placed at the Hawthorne Center through
