COMMUNITY OUTREACH ___________________________________________________
The WCVM is building on our past work and the work of our partners in the northern communities of LaRonge and Air LaRonge to
develop a Service Learning Initiative for students. We are looking for licensed veterinarians and AHT's to assist with this effort. The
May trip will involve student volunteers, but beginning in September students from the WCVM will be participating in a 4th year
rotation that will include travel to these communities. The students will be mentored by WCVM faculty and will assist with a
community outreach program in an ongoing partnership effort to reduce canine overpopulation and feral dogs. The initiative will
include a semi-annual wellness clinic and a low cost spay neuter program. The students will participate in talking to students at
schools, and meeting with community groups. We would appreciate the assistance of veterinarians and AHTs who would assist us
during these clinics in: wellness examinations, animal intake, anesthesia, and in spaying / neutering a large number of dogs and some
cats. The Service Learning Group is asking prospective volunteers to contact Dr. Jordan Wordsworth at the WCVM at

Team North, remote area veterinary services is a voluntary group of veterinarians, technologists and students that travel to remote
areas of northern Saskatchewan to examine, vaccinate, de-worm and spay or neuter pets at no cost to the owner. Dogs running at
large and in groups create a serious health and safety issue in these remote areas with no access to veterinary services. There is
currently no funding in place to support this program and the group relies on donations.
