Fall 2014
5th Annual Putt Putt for
Charity Mini-golf Tournament
Thank you to all our sponsors (see page 2 for a complete
listing) and players who showed their generosity and support at
the 5th Annual Putt Putt for Charity Miniature Golf Tournament
on August 2, 2014, at Putter’s Paradise in Berlin.
Together, we raised over $19,700 for the American Eagle
Federal Credit Union Fund at the Hartford Foundation for
Public Giving.
We had a great event day and an excellent turnout of minigolfers. Guests were treated to face painting, giveaways, and
prizes. In addition, 19
Credit Union employee
volunteers contributed
to a well-organized and
successful event.
To view photos of
the event, visit the
American Eagle
Federal Credit Union
Facebook page.
All proceeds will
benefit the American Eagle Federal Credit Union Fund at the
Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The Fund serves as our
primary source of charitable giving and provides opportunities
for the Credit Union,
our members, and
our strategic partners
to give back to the
community in the form
of financial support to
charities in the Greater
Hartford area.

Have You Ever Received a Random
Text Message? Guess What? No Real
Prize Is Waiting for You!
The Federal Trade Commission has said it before and they will
say it again: Do not reply to or click on a link for a random
text message you see on your phone (or e-mail message)
saying you have won a prize, gift card, or an expensive
electronic gadget like an iPad…it is most likely a scam.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, spammers
are hired to send millions of unsolicited texts to lure
unsuspecting people to web sites where they would get
“free” gift cards. When people clicked on the links, they were
led to bogus web sites to register for the prizes. Registration
required them to sign up for several third-party offers
where they had to reveal personal information. In the end,
no one actually got the gift cards or other gifts that were
promised in the text message. The whole scam was designed
to allow these companies to collect personal information
and make money by selling it to third parties.
How you can avoid the scam:
Delete random texts, especially those that ask you to enter a
special code, or to confirm or provide personal information
by following a link to a web site. These are almost always
bogus sites that exist solely to access your information.
Never give your personal or financial information out online.
Be guarded with your personal information, and treat it as
if it were cash. Refrain from entering your Social Security,
financial account, or credit or debit card numbers online or
by phone to someone who calls, e-mails, or texts you. Just
remember, no legitimate business will ever text or e-mail
you asking for your personal information, especially your
trusted credit union: American Eagle Federal Credit Union.
If you wish, report spam texts to your carrier. Copy the original
message and forward it to 7726 (SPAM) free of charge, if you
are an AT&T,T-Mobile,Verizon, or Sprint subscriber.
Credit Union Converting from Federal to State Charter
American Eagle Federal Credit Union recently applied for a Connecticut state charter. As part of the application process, the
Credit Union is looking to expand its field of membership into New Haven County. As a member-owner of the Credit Union
your opinion matters and you will be asked to vote on this issue. In the upcoming weeks, you can expect to receive a ballot
by mail. We encourage your participation and feedback in this process. Management believes that by voting in favor of this
conversion, AEFCU members will benefit in the following ways:
• Future enhancements to products and service delivery
• Assisting more members throughout the State of Connecticut
• Potential expansion of branches and ATMs
• Increased community giving through the American Eagle Fund
Please visit www.americaneagle.org/charter for answers to some of the more common questions you may have about the conversion.

How Much Do You Need to Retire? Let’s Calculate
Calculating a retirement savings goal is one of the most important steps investors can
take to help determine if they are on pace to meet that goal. However, most American
workers haven’t tried to figure out how much
money they will need to accumulate for
retirement. What about you?
Planning Matters
What’s important to realize is that the
exercise of calculating a retirement savings
goal does more than simply provide you with
a dollars and cents estimate of how much
you’ll need for the future. It also requires you
to visualize the specific details of your retirement dreams and to assess whether your
current financial plans are realistic, comprehensive, and up-to-date.
Action Plans
The following four strategies will help you do a better job of identifying and pursuing
your retirement savings goals.
1. Double-check your assumptions. Before you do anything else, answer
these important questions: When do you plan to retire? How much
money will you need each year? Where and when do you plan to get your
retirement income? Are your investment expectations in line with the
performance potential of the investments you own?
2. Use a proper “calculator.” The best way to calculate your goal is by using
one of the many interactive worksheets now available free of charge online
and in print. Each type features questions about your financial situation as well
as blank spaces for you to provide answers. An online version will perform
the calculation automatically and respond almost instantly with an estimate of
how much you may need for retirement and how much more you should try
to save to pursue that goal. If you do the calculation on a paper worksheet,
however, you might want to have a traditional calculator on hand to help with
the math. Remember that your ultimate goal is to save as much money as
possible for retirement regardless of what any calculator might suggest.
3. Contribute more. Do you think you could manage to save another $10
or $20 extra each pay period? If so, here’s some motivation to actually do it:
Contributing an extra $20 each week to your plan could provide you with an
additional $130,237 after 30 years, assuming 8% annual investment returns.1
