Competition. Senior semifinalists are Evan Brown, Ben Christensen, Ben Evans, Calvin
Greve, Ricky Hoobler, Cody Hsieh, Hannah Lancaster, and John Low. Students qualify as

National Merit Scholarship Finalists. Congratulations to Evan, Ben, Ben, Calvin, Ricky, Cody,
Hannah, and John!
Three LMHS students have been named Commended Students in the National Merit
Scholarship Competition. Seniors George Ge, Bryn Myers, and Nikita Sharma have been
named Commended Students. Seniors in the top 5% of performers in the 2013 PSAT are
named Commended Students. Congratulations George, Bryn, and Nikita!
PSAT INFORMATION FOR JUNIORS
The PSAT National Merit Scholarship Competition exam will be given on Wednesday,
October 15. Every year, National Merit Scholarships are available for students based on
performance on the PSAT. The assessment serves as both a practice for students planning to
take the SAT, as well as the qualifier for the prestigious National Merit Scholarships. Cost for
the exam is $15, and can be paid in the Cashier’s Office. Sign-up is in the 11th/12th Grade
Office. For information and questions regarding the PSAT, please contact the 11th/12th

“UNOFFICIAL” TRANSCRIPTS NOW AVAILABLE VIA POWERSCHOOL
Linn-Mar High School 10th-12th grades students and parents may now view and print “unofficial” student
grade transcripts at any time via PowerSchool. To print an “unofficial” transcript, log on to PowerSchool on
the student homepage, then go to Document Vault on the left side of the screen (about 2/3 of the way down the
side).
“Official” Linn-Mar High School transcripts must be requested and processed through the Linn-Mar
Registrar in the 11th-12th Grades Office. Colleges and Universities, as well as scholarship sponsors, typically
require “official” transcripts at some point during the application or admission process. Always check a
transcript request to know if the transcript must be “official”. Students needing an “official” tr anscr ipt
are asked to stop by the 11th-12th Grade Office to complete a ‘Transcript Request’ form with the Registrar.
NO HOMEROOM SESSIONS DURING 2ND QUARTER
In an effort to maximize the number of class days during 2nd Quarter, there are no
scheduled Homeroom sessions during October, November, or December. The next scheduled
Homeroom session will be Thursday, January 15, 2015, during 3rd Quarter.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Phase One of the LMHS renovation project is scheduled to be completed at the end of October. This
phase involves the renovation of four science (two life science, one chemistry, one physics) labs, two lab prep
rooms, and teacher work spaces, located in the southwest portion of the building. An opportunity for the public to tour the renovated labs will be planned for November.
Phase Two will be a major project within the building, involving renovation in various areas to update instructional functionality as well as make more efficient use of the building. The original north wing of the
building will be demolished and rebuilt. Both the north and south ends of the building will have a secure main
entrance into the building. These will be the only entrances into the building during the school day. The
north entrance will be connected to the 9th-10th Grade Office. The south entrance will be connected to the
11th-12th Grade Office. The Main Office will remain in the current location in the center of the building.
The design for Phase Two is scheduled to go to the Board for approval in January, with bid submittal and
approval in February/March. The start date for Phase Two of the project is scheduled to begin in March.
Completion of the project is currently scheduled for late fall of 2016.
Planning for safety, room usage, parking, contractor staging, storage, and other needed items with Phase
Two of the project is already under way. Communication regarding the renovation schedule, classroom
moves, teacher locations, etc. will be provided on the district website and in a mailing in February/March.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER NOW OPEN AT LMHS
A College and Career Center is now open at LMHS, and located temporarily in the Media Center. The
center will be moved to the south entrance as part of the building renovation project. The College and Career
Center is staffed by the Guidance Counselors throughout each day. The College and Career Center hosts
visiting college representatives, military recruiters, career counselors, and other agencies regarding
post-secondary planning. Students, and parents, are able to ‘drop-in’ to the College and Career Center for any
assistance they may need or to help any questions they may have regarding college and career planning.
The College and Career Center will also be sponsoring several meetings throughout the year. A 9th Grade
Parent Information Meeting on Planning for the Future has been held, as well as a session on planning for the
NCAA Clearinghouse. Future evening events include parent planning meetings for 10th and 11th grades
parents, planning for college financial aid, and career speakers and presentations. All information for any
session, event or meeting is available on the building webpage. Parents and students may also sign up to
receive text event reminders from the College and Career Center, as well as various grade level announcements. To receive these text messages, text @lmhsco to (319) 774-4987, or email to
[email protected]. You may unsubscribe at any time. These are one-way text messages for grade
level counseling information, as well as from the College and Career Center.
TIME RELEASE
Juniors and Seniors may be granted Time Release during unscheduled time if:
1. A parent permission form is on file in the Attendance Office
2. All grades in the previous grading period were passing
3. In good standing with the Code of Conduct and Attendance Policy
Parents may revoke or reinstate Time Release (if eligible) at any time. Students with no Time Release are
assigned to a specific seat in the Media Center. Grades 9 and 10 do NOT have Time Release privileges and
must report to The Learning Center for all unscheduled periods. New for 2014-15, 11th and 12th grade
students with Time Release, who are receiving a failing grade after the sixth week of a quarter will have Time
Release revoked for the remaining three weeks of the quarter. This is to provide supervised academic study
time and academic support, and should help students to successfully complete the course(s).
EARLY SESSION
Linn-Mar High School has Early Session
from 8:00-8:25 a.m. daily. The purpose of
this session is to allow students time to meet
with teachers. Teachers are available for
students during Early Session every school
day. It is a great opportunity for students to
ask questions, get assignments, and complete
other tasks. Teachers may require Early
Session for students if it is deemed necessary
for their success in the course.
Communication with parents will be made in
these situations.
STUDENT ABSENCES
For any student absence, please contact
the school by phone. Written notes are not
accepted. Effort to contact parents will be
made for students not in attendance and with
no notification of the absence.
