Center - learn about a volunteer’s exciting
history! Our featured guest during Fire
Prevention Month is future StoneCroft resident
and former Fire Chief of Elverson Fire Co. No. 1,
Tom Hess. This Philadelphia native moved into
this area in 1944 and joined the Elverson Fire
Company in 1950 at the age of 16. In 1968 Tom
was elected Fire Chief and served for 20 years
in this capacity; he was appointed as a PA
Forest Fire Warden in that same year. Tom
remained an active fire fighter until August
1999 and will bring along items from his fire
fighting collection to display. Since 2011 he has
served as the curator of the Twin Valley Fire
Department Museum.

OCTOBER DISPLAY IN GCC
Our Pastoral Care Department will provide a
fascinating display in honor of Clergy
Appreciation Month. This year’s theme is
―The Roots of Tel Hai’s Two Founding
Congregations.‖ Items on loan from the
Conestoga Mennonite Church archives will
tell the story of the Conestoga and Maple
Grove churches’ roots beginning with the
Mennonite
movement
during
the
Reformation, their unique views and
practices of the period, as well as the Amish
Mennonite Division of 1693 and the early
settlement of the Amish Mennonites that
led to the formation of these two
congregations.

The Finance Office serves the residents,
visitors, and staff in a variety of ways. The
team consists of seven team members that
include Sharon Canull - Director of Finance,
Kathy Buck - Receptionist, Tonya Coon Payroll Associate, Barb Finley - Billing
Associate, Patrice McInaw

Assistant, Beth Wasson - Staff Accountant
and Leslie Yarnall - Accounting Assistant.

The office is located near the Meadows
Health Care Center entrance.
This team is busy throughout the day
working on a variety of functions including
processing payroll for over 400 staff,
preparing bills for over 500 residents and
billing Medicare, Medicaid, and a variety of
HMO’s. This office also answers the main
switchboard for Tel Hai and handles and
sorts all of the business mail and Meadows
mail each day. The budget, financial reports
and a number of audits on accounts are also
part of some of the responsibilities of the
staff.
The Finance Office is fortunate to have
volunteers who help with assisting visitors at
the reception desk, scanning invoices and
filing for us throughout the week. Our
office hours are 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday
through Friday.

FROM THE CHAPLAINS
The Honey Brook Presbyterian Church in
cooperation with REACH Counseling Services
is offering a bereavement support series.
The first workshop, to be held Saturday,
October 11th 2:00 – 3:30 pm, is entitled
―What is Grief?‖ This workshop looks at the
emotional, physical, social and spiritual
aspects of grief and loss. It is a worship to
help persons in their grief journey to
support one’s self and is also helpful for
those supporting others in their loss.
Participants are encouraged to bring a
picture or memento of your loved one to
share at the workshop, however it is not
required.
Workshop Two, scheduled for Saturday,
November 1st 2:00 – 3:30 pm, is ―Dealing
with Grief and Loss during the Holidays and
other Special Days.‖ This workshop looks at
how to cope when special times remind us of
our loss in a powerful way. It looks at the
traditional holidays such as Thanksgiving,
Christmas and New Year’s and also other
days such as anniversaries and birthdays.
Workshops are facilitated by Dr. Manisha
Shendge, a member of the Honey Brook
Church. Dr. Shendge is a pastoral counselor
and licensed marriage and family therapist
who is nationally certified in Thanatology.
Each workshop is separate so that one can
attend one or both. There is no cost for the
workshops. However, pre-registration is
suggested.
The workshops will be held in the Fellowship
Hall of the Honey Brook Presbyterian

TEL HAI CONCERT SERIES
The November Concert is Friday, the 7th
at 7:30 PM featuring Dr. Jane Hagness
(Lyric Soprano) and Dr. Michael Baal (Piano).
Dr. Hagness teaches voice lessons at West
Chester University and is the Director of
Music at St. John’s United Church of Christ
in Wernersville, where she serves as
organist, directs four choirs and oversees a
concert series.
The December Christmas concert features
the Mainliners on Thursday, December 18
at 7:30 PM in the A/C.
TERRARIUM DEMONSTRATION

History and Chronology of Ancient Egypt”First in a series of lectures by Dr. Stephen
Phillips, Curatorial Research Coordinator at
the University of Pennsylvania Museum of
Archeology and Anthropology Community
Outreach Program. Dr. Phillips takes us on a
nearly 1,000-mile journey down the Nile
River, from Abu Simbel to Alexandria to
magnificent archeological sites exhibiting
the more than 5,000 year civilization of the
people of Egypt. There is a fee of $5.00. A
sign-up sheet will be in the RBC as the date
for this class approaches.
