Your Pathway to Financial Success · Fall 2014
Dear Members,
As usual, from time to time during the months after
our last newsletter, I reflect on what I will write to
you about in our next newsletter…this time was no
exception. Lo and behold, our financial position at the
end of August provided me with the perfect topic.
You see, we ended the month with over 100 MILLION
DOLLARS in assets! Congratulations to you, our
directors, volunteers and staff.
After working for Saco Valley Credit Union for thirty
years you would think I wouldn’t get excited by news of
our growth…but I am very excited by the news. When
I first arrived at Saco Valley Credit Union in 1984 we
were 4 million dollars in assets. I take great pride in
knowing we are still growing and financially sound. So
when I screamed loudly enough that I almost broke
EVP/COO Paul Sullivan’s ear drums (according to him…
everyone knows I’m basically quiet); I felt no shame in
acting like a kid in a candy store. It is no small feat to
show a positive bottom line each and every month year
after year. It takes an aggressive lending team, great
member service reps, trustworthy accounting staff,
exceptional operational support staff and a dedicated,
involved Board of Directors. Support from our loyal
members and volunteers is of utmost importance and I
value and cherish it.
Love Story
Congratulations to Matt and Theresa! They
became Mr. & Mrs. on Saturday, September
13th. Best Wishes to you both on a happy
marriage.
For without your continued belief and trust in us, we
would cease to exist. It is a privilege to see what we
have accomplished together over the years…enabling
children to go to college, helping members build the
homes of their dreams, offering rates on savings and
loan products to you that are second to none, helping
members take much deserved vacations, have magical
weddings, drive vehicles they dream of, improve their
homes, buy vacation homes, save for retirement, have
children and achieve many other financial goals by
working together. For all of this, and thousands of
other reasons, I feel very privileged to have served as
your President/CEO for so many years. It has been a
source of great joy for me, in spite of the many economic
challenges we have faced. This month is National Credit
Union Week and we will celebrate with all of you in the
wonderful knowledge that Credit Unions are owned by
you, our members, and we are truly living the philosophy
of “People Helping People;” especially at Saco Valley
Credit Union.
Thank all of you for making Saco Valley Credit Union so
successful and for being part of our continually growing
family!
Fondly,
Carrie

Church and The Maine Way, Inc. These funds were raised with the generous help of our members and staff by doing various

Congratulations!!
“Board of Directors at Saco Valley,
Thank you so much for choosing me for one of the $250
scholarships this year. I have received a scholarship reward the
past 2 years as well, and every year it has proved to be a great
blessing, a huge help in paying the expenses that go along with
being a college student. This year is especially a blessing.
I spent 2 months of my summer participating in a mission team in
Australia. There, I was able to help various missionaries, churches,
schools, and a youth camp. I learned so much while on the mission
team and am extremely thankful that the Lord saw fit to give
me that experience. In addition to having to trust the Lord for
financial support in getting there, I also had to trust that he
would provide for my schooling when I returned. This scholarship
is part of the answer to my prayers, and will be a great help in
purchasing my textbooks for next semester. Thank you again!
Sincerely,
Savanah Maskell”

Christmas Clubs
Now is the time to start saving for the
2015 holiday season. The new savings
year for our Christmas clubs began the
first week of October; however, you can
open one anytime! Please see a member
service representative to open yours
today!
Important Reminders
Please take time to update your personal information for our records. This includes;
addresses, phone numbers, and employment information. You should also take the
time to verify the beneficiary information listed on your account to be certain it is
correct. Please ask a member service representative to take your picture for your
account profile. This is always a useful tool to have with identity theft on the rise.
It will only take a minute of your time and we will be happy to assist you with these
changes.
Holiday Donations
During the holiday season we “adopt” families in need. At
Thanksgiving we fill large baskets with food and a turkey of
course. At Christmas we make sure children receive what they
are truly hoping for. If you are interested in helping an “adopted”
family, please see Theresa or Marcia for more details.
