2014-2015
San Diego County Office of Education in Partnership with
California State University Early Assessment Program
Expository Reading & Writing Course
Certification for High School Teachers
“ERWC training is the best I’ve received in terms of
preparing my students to meet the demands of college due
to the knowledgeable presenters and the excellent
materials.”
Gain the certification required to teach
the revised UC Doorway’s Approved 12th
Grade ERWC course or any of the newly
released ERWC modules for 9-12th grade.
Through this dynamic professional learning, teachers will:
 Acquire knowledge of what it means to read and write
rhetorically through a relentless focus on the text and the
ways in which this approach prepares students for college
and career,
 Learn the ways in which the modules strategically develop
the ability of students to integrate and build knowledge
from complex expository texts through all strands of
reading, writing, speaking/listening and language,
 Understand the ways in which ERWC methodology and
materials are aligned to Common Core, and
 Engage in collegial professional learning around ERWC
implementation for all students, including English language
learners.
Participants will receive a binder of the full ERWC UC Doorways
approved 12th grade course and will have digital access to the
other modules. There are 4 modules for grades 9-11 that
expertly augment any curriculum.
