Wisconsin Transcatheter Valve Symposium FOCUS ON TRANSCATHETER AORTIC VALVE REPLACEMENT 2nd Annual Saturday, November 8, 2014 Wisconsin Transcatheter Valve Symposium FOCUS ON TRANSCATHETER AORTIC VALVE REPLACEMENT Saturday, November 8, 2014 Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center 1 John Nolen Drive, Madison, WI 53703 Jointly Provided by University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health School of of Medicine Medicine and Public Department of Medicine Public Health Health UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON Division of Cardiovascular Medicine Office of Continuing Professional Development in Medicine and Public Health UW Health Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Care UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN–MADISON School of of Medicine Medicine and Public Public Health Health UNIVERSITY UNIVERSITY OF OF WISCONSIN–MADISON WISCONSIN-MADISON Join colleagues from around the region to learn about the opportunities and challenges surrounding transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Regional and national leaders in valve therapy will lead interactive sessions and present challenging, instructive cases including a recorded case. SCOPE & OBJECTIVES Intended Audience and Scope of Practice This activity is designed for cardiologists, surgeons, internists, intensivists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, family physicians, advanced practice practitioners, surgical and cath-lab technicians, perfusionists and other allied health personnel who participate in the care of patients with advanced heart disease. Elements of Competence This CME activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of patient care and procedural skills, and medical knowledge. Practice Gaps and Needs “Last year’s meeting was a resounding success and this year is shaping up to be even better! There will a broader emphasis on treatment of structural heart disease with more challenging cases. I think this meeting will appeal to all physicians, residents, nurses and technicians who currently care for patients with advanced heart disease or who may be thinking about expanding their scope of practice.” Amish Raval, Course Director There is a knowledge gap among cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and primary care individuals pertaining to valve procedures, patient eligibility criteria, device oriented concerns, expected outcomes and follow-up recommendations for valve procedures. For example, transcatheter aortic valve replacement for symptomatic, severe aortic valve stenosis is now the national standard of care for high risk and inoperable patients, though this is not widely known. This symposium will feature an open and balanced discussion of the evidence and the pros/cons of the approved devices. Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to: 1. Explain the indications and contra-indications for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). 2. Discuss major complications that can arise with TAVR. 3. Identify minimally invasive methods to treat valve prostheses related complications such as stuck leaflet, peri-valvular leak, hemolysis and restenosis. 4. Review the follow-up management of patients who have received transcatheter valve therapy. 1 Wisconsin Transcatheter Valve Symposium FOCUS ON TRANSCATHETER AORTIC VALVE REPLACEMENT Saturday, November 8, 2014 DIRECTOR & SPEAKERS Course Director Amish Raval, MD, FSCAI, FACC, Interventional Cardiologist, UW Health; Associate Professor, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine; Affiliate, Department of Biomedical Engineering; Director, Clinical Cardiovascular Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine; Director, Regional ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction Program; Director, Cardiovascular Clinical Research, UWSMPH Keynote Speaker Carlos Ruiz, MD, PhD, Cardiologist and Director, Structural and Congenital Heart Disease Program, Department of Interventional Cardiology, North Shore Health System and Lenox Hill Hospital Speakers, Case Presenters and Moderators *= Planning Committee Member • Steve Ewer, MD, Cardiologist, UW Health; Assistant Professor (CHS), Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, UWSMPH • Michael Gharacholou, MD, Cardiologist, Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare • Giorgio Gimelli, MD, FACC, FSCAI,* Associate Professor of Medicine (CHS), Director, Adult Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Director, Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, UWSMPH • Paul Hudson, MD, Interventional Cardiologist, Cardiology Associates of Bellin Health, Green Bay • Kurt Jacobson, MD, MHSA, FSCAI,* Interventional Cardiologist, UW Health; Assistant Professor of Medicine, Section of Coronary,Vascular, and Structural Heart Interventions, Divisions of Cardiovascular and Internal Medicine, UWSMPH and American Family Children’s Hospital • Ryan Kipp, MD, Electrophysiologist, UW Health; Assistant Professor of Medicine (CHS), Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, UWSMPH • Luke Lamers, MD, FSCAI, Director of Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Lab, UW Health and American Family Children’s Hospital Additional Planning Committee Members • Shahab A.
