WE GATHER IN CHRIST’S NAME
PRELUDE
ANNOUNCEMENTS
ORDER FOR CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the
presiding minister begins.
P: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
P: Almighty God,
C: to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom
no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the
inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you
and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our
Lord.
Amen.
P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not
in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will
forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
P: Most merciful God,
C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves.
We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by
what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have
not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our
neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus
Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us,
so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your holy name.
Amen.
P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us,
and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and
ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I
therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the
name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.

CHOIR ANTHEM
WE HEAR GOD’S SAVING WORD
OLD TESTAMENT LESSON
Isaiah 25:1–9
After a hymn of praise acknowledging God as a shelter for the poor, the
prophet portrays a wonderful victory banquet at which death—which in
ancient Canaan was depicted as a monster swallowing everyone up—
will be swallowed up forever. The prophet urges celebration of this
victory of salvation.
O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for
you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.
2
For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin; the palace of
3
aliens is a city no more, it will never be rebuilt. Therefore strong
4
peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will fear you. For you
have been a refuge to the poor, a refuge to the needy in their distress,
a shelter from the rainstorm and a shade from the heat. When the blast
5
of the ruthless was like a winter rainstorm, the noise of aliens like heat in
a dry place, you subdued the heat with the shade of clouds; the song of
6
the ruthless was stilled. On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make
for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food
7
filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear. And he will destroy
on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is
8
spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord
GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his
people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken.
9
It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so
that he might save us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited; let
us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.
A: The Word of the Lord
C. Thanks be to God

PSALM
Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not be in want.
2
The LORD makes me lie down in green pastures
and leads me beside still waters.
3
You restore my soul, O LORD,
and guide me along right pathways for your name's sake.
4
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I shall fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil, and my cup is running over.
6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
EPISTLE LESSON
Philippians 4:1–9
Though writing from prison and facing an uncertain future, Paul calls on
the Philippians to rejoice and give thanks to God no matter what the
circumstance. God's peace is with us and binds together our hearts and
minds in Jesus Christ, especially when things around us do not seem
peaceful.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and
2
crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved. I urge Euodia and
3
I urge Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. Yes, and I ask you
also, my loyal companion, help these women, for they have struggled
beside me in the work of the gospel, together with Clement and the rest
4
of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life. Rejoice in the
5
Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to
6
everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests
7
be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8
Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is
just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if
there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think
9
about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and
received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with
you.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
HOLY GOSPEL
St. Matthew 22:1–14
C: Glory to you, O Lord
Jesus tells a parable indicating that the blessings of God's kingdom are
available to all, but the invitation is not to be taken lightly.
2
Once more Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying: The kingdom of
heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his
3
son. He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the
4
wedding banquet, but they would not come. Again he sent other slaves,
saying, 'Tell those who have been invited: Look, I have prepared my
dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and
5
everything is ready; come to the wedding banquet.' But they made light
6
of it and went away, one to his farm, another to his business, while the
7
rest seized his slaves, mistreated them, and killed them. The king was
enraged. He sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned
8
their city. Then he said to his slaves, 'The wedding is ready, but those
9
invited were not worthy. Go therefore into the main streets, and invite
10
everyone you find to the wedding banquet.' Those slaves went out into
the streets and gathered all whom they found, both good and bad; so the
11
wedding hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to see
the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing a wedding
12
robe, and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a
8
13
wedding robe?' And he was speechless. Then the king said to the
attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer
14
darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' For
many are called, but few are chosen."

C: Praise to you, O Christ.

All Who Believe and Are Baptized
ELW 442
APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

surpasses understanding, at tables overflowing with good food and
drink, and where shrouds of sorrow are lifted.

in praise and singing, word and deed, unrestrained from worry and
unchained from fear.
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.
P: Come near us, Lord God. Let your people rejoice with faces wiped
free of tears, minds unbound from disgrace, bodies freed from
suffering, and souls restored . . .
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.

the saints, whose names are in the book of life and who now sit at

Change My Heart, O God
The Power of Your Love
Lord I come to You, let my heart be changed, renewed;
Flowing from the grace that I found in You.
Lord I’ve come to know the weaknesses I see in me
will be stripped away
by the pow’r of Your love.
Chorus:
Hold me close,
let Your love surround me,
bring me near, draw me to Your side.
And as I wait, I’ll rise up like the ea-gle,
and I will soar with You,
Your spirit leads me on in the pow’r of Your love.
Lord unveil my eyes, let me see You face to face;
The knowledge of Your love, as You live, in me.
Lord renew my mind as Your will unfolds in my life,
in living every day by the pow’r of Your love.
Repeat chorus
Ending: and I will soar with You,
Your spirit leads me on in the pow’r of Your love.
