I want to thank you for your comments about the sermons Sunday.
The good Lord blessed us with another wonderful day. The Baby
Shower Sunday night for Hope and Dusty was really nice. A large
number participated and the food was delicious. Thank you very
much! Baby Lane is due November 29. Obviously, all the family is
really excited.
Thought for Today – “What if the end would come right now? Are
you really ready to hear your everlasting fate declared by
Christ” (Byron Nichols)?
Please remember the “Food for Thought” meeting Sunday afternoon
at 5:00 p.m. We are ready to get this great program underway. A
special word of appreciation to Jeff Cavender for all the work he has
done to make this good work possible.
We are excited about the Arab Football team being with us this Sunday night. Steve Johnson from Priceville will be our guest speaker.
Steve has applied for our family and youth minister’s position. I
know you will enjoy hearing Steve. Steve received his training at
the Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, Texas.
Please say a special prayer today for our sick.
Scripture for Today – “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of
the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the
Lord” (I Corinthians 15: 57, 58).
I look forward to another great Sunday of worship with you. Great
things are happening in our congregation. Let’s get fired up! Remember, Hannah and I love and appreciate you.
Do We Care?
Bill Dillon
A group of children were crying at a street corner. A man came by and
asked what was the matter. One little lad tearfully replied, “We’ve got a
pain in Billy’s stomach!” What a beautiful statement of children’s ability to be compassionate. Wherever there is sorrow and suffering in the
world, wherever there is spiritual darkness and despair, God’s people
must extend arms of sympathy.
It was a sympathizing Jesus who beckoned, “Come unto me all ye that
labor and are heavy laden…and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:2830). Also the Lord said, “he that cometh to me I will in no wise cast
out” (John 6:37).
When one member of the body of Christ suffers, all feel the pain. Truly,
Paul wrote that we “should have the same care one for another” (I Corinthians 12:25). To be casual or lukewarm in our devotion to others, in
particular to fellow disciples, is to be casual and lukewarm in our devotion to the Lord (Matthew 25:40).
How far out does the circle of your concern extend? To you and your
family? To a few more? Should you redraw the line and include all for
whom Christ died?
To the world, the most appealing quality of Jesus is His care and compassion for others. This characteristic makes the Lord loom large in the
eyes of those who believe not. This same quality, prominently featured
in the lives of the Lord’s people will open many hearts to the truth. Do
you care?

The Goodness of God
Ken Tyler
The apostle Paul stated in Romans 2:4, “...the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance.” “We love him, because he first loved us” (I John 4:19). In this article,
I want you to think carefully about the goodness of God.
1. The goodness of God is shown by the gift of His Son for mankind. Yes,
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son…” Paul in speaking of this gift said, “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift” (2 Corinthians 9:15). Paul said that God’s gift of His Son for
our sins is so wonderful and meaningful that it cannot be adequately described with words. It is an “…unspeakable gift.” God’s goodness is supremely seen by the gift of His Son for our sins. Hebrews 2:9 tells us that
Jesus, by the grace of God, tasted death for every man. How thankful we
should be!
2. The goodness of God is seen by the fact that He is no respecter of
persons. All men are equal in God’s sight. It doesn’t matter whether we
are rich or poor, black or white, or whatever. God loves all men and wants
them to be saved (I Timothy 2:4). Peter said at the house of the Gentile,
Cornelius, “…of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But
in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted
with him” (Acts 10:34, 35). Yes, God is impartial. This is a wonderful quality
that manifests His goodness.
3.The goodness of God is seen by His mercy and care for us. In 2 Corinthians 1:3, God is described as “…the Father of mercies, and the God of all
comfort.” These are marvelous statements that show God’s goodness. Peter
wrote, “casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (I Peter 5:7).
Where would we be without God’s mercy, concern, and kindness? We are
told in Hebrews 13:5, “…I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.” What a
wonderful promise!
I want to ask you, has the goodness of God led you to repentance? There’s no
question about God’s goodness. Do you love Him because He first loved you?
John said, “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments…”
(I John 5:3). Friends, the God of heaven is good. May we all gladly serve Him.
