Cumberland Valley Christian School
Fall 2014
The Open Door Church Celebrates 50 Years
By: Mike Sanders, Senior Pastor
As you drive through the campus,
take time just to look around at
both the structure of the buildings,
the furnishings, etc., but then look
around at the people and realize
they are the church! There are still
more people to be impacted for the
glory of God, and we hope you will
be part of it in the years ahead.
We trust you have a heart of
thanksgiving to the Lord as you
enter into this campus. The Bible
lets us know that truly God inhabits
the praises of His people, and as
our Heavenly Father, He loves to
hear His children’s voices rise as
one voice of thanks to Him.
Christ has blessed the work of His
people’s hands in the celebration of
His glory as a family of God. Psalm
100:4-5 (KJV): “Enter into his
gates with thanksgiving, and into
his courts with praise: be thankful
unto him, and bless his name.
For the Lord is good; his mercy is
everlasting; and his truth endureth
to all generations.”
Cumberland Valley Christian
School is an important part of the
church’s history. In 1974 God
led our church family to launch
a school that would focus on
education with a biblical foundation
for Christian parents in our
community. We began with 165
students, K4 through 8th grade.
Forty-one years later the school has
As we look back over the years,
we must take pause and be thankful
to the Lord who has blessed us
with His presence year in and year
out. No, the road hasn’t always
been easy, but I know you would
agree with me that the good times
far outnumber the difficult times!
K3-12th
expanded to 417 students,
grade.
On October 18-19th The Open
Door Church will celebrate its 50th
Anniversary with special activities
and events. We are so thrilled to be
celebrating the 50th Anniversary of
our church and are excited to invite
you to join us as we take some
time to observe this very special
weekend. Activities begin Saturday
at 4pm-7pm on campus and
continue Sunday at 10 am-2pm.

New Teacher Dylan Ward
I am
new to the
Chambersburg
area. I have
spent most of
my life in the
New England
area and
specifically
New York. I
was raised in a
Catholic home, my father is a school
teacher, my mother is an accountant,
and I have a sister who currently is
in college. I was raised to respect
and love the world that God has
created for me.
In December 2009 after I attended
my first semester at the University of
Pittsburgh-Bradford, the Lord began
to work in me. I soon put my faith in
Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
The following May I began to look at
transferring schools, and I eventually
and ultimately chose Davis College
in Binghamton, NY (which is my
hometown). I attended Davis
College for four years earning 2 BRE
degrees in the fields of Elementary
Education and Teaching English
as a Second Language (TESL). I
graduated in May 2014.
While attending Davis College
I also was able to play basketball;
while I was on the team we won two
BIBLE NIT National Championships
and four consecutive League
Championships. I also am currently
the all-time leader in most games
ever played (114). Earning two
degrees was truly amazing. I have
more than 300 hours student
teaching and was able to open many
doors in both public and Christian
schools.
The Lord has blessed me with
the opportunity to teach 9th Grade
English and 10th-12th Grade Bible
here at CVCS. Once arriving here
I was in awe of God’s presence at
CVCS, and I am excited about the
many opportunities He will present
this year and the future at CVCS. I
am looking forward to meeting each
one of you and getting acquainted
with your children. My prayer is that
we will have the most successful
school year that CVCS has ever
had and that I might form a strong
relationship with each of your
children and with our Savior Jesus
Christ.
Principal’s Corner
The 41st year of Cumberland Valley
Christian School is off to a great start.
We welcome 417 students and 36
teachers to our campus for the 2014
school year. We especially extend a
warm welcome to all our new families
and faculty members.
Our goal this year is to see our staff
and students grow in their relationship
with the Lord on a daily basis. We
also will continue to provide a quality
academic education to each of our

students as we help them reach their full
potential.
We as a school are committed to
building Godly character in each
student’s life and helping our students to
develop positive relationships with each
other to the glory of God.
As staff, students, and parents work
together as one, great things will happen
in our school, allowing CVCS to be a
shining example of God’s glory.
Annual Fund
Kickoff for
2014-15
As we begin a new school year
at CVCS, we also look forward
to kicking off our Annual Fund
campaign. Through the generosity
of school families, alumni, faculty,
staff, and church members, we strive
to not only meet, but also exceed
our goal for the 2014-15 school
year. Because of your support of
Cumberland Valley Christian School,
private Christian education is made
available to so many students in the
Franklin County area. Thank you in
advance on behalf of more than 400
children who will continue to benefit
from your generosity. We are truly
grateful for your involvement in the
life of Cumberland Valley Christian
School.

50 Years
(Continued from page 1)
Yes, an anniversary is a time
of reflection and appreciation;
however, I believe it is also a time
for vision casting and dreaming
about the future. We live in a
challenging world, and the need
for the church and Cumberland
Valley Christian School has never
been greater! Share the news
about The Open Door Church
and Cumberland Valley Christian
School with your friends, family
and neighbors. YOU are the
best advertisement we have, so
please don’t hesitate to share the
importance of this ministry with
others.
The heritage we have received
from those who have gone on
before us inspires us to rededicate
our lives to the great spiritual and
moral principles for which they so
nobly stood.
What a wonderful heritage and a
bright future we have! To God be
the glory!
CVCS Golf Tournament
Thank you to all who participated
and volunteered in this year’s CVCS
Golf Tournament. Once again, this
event was a great success, raising
over $7,000.00 for our school.
Fall Sports Preview
Our fall sports teams have had a
great start to their seasons. They

the rest of the season holds. Please
continue to pray for their safety and
testimony as they are representing
Christ, CVCS, and their families.
