SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2014 EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST ORDER OF WORSHIP "UPON ENTERING THE SANCTUARY, PLEASE OBSERVE A PERIOD OF QUIET REFLECTION PRIOR TO THE START OF WORSHIP." #105 AAHH HYMNAL SONG OF CELEBRATION BLESS THE LORD SALUTATION Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: ALL: Greetings. Why have we come? We’ve come to lift high the name of our remarkable God. The love of our God welcomes us. The grace of Christ awaits us. The joy of the spirit enfolds us. Let us worship. Let us praise. Let us rejoice. DOXOLOGY Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye Heavenly Host, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: ALL: I was glad when they said to me, let us go into the house of the Lord, our feet shall stand within Thy gates, O’ Jerusalem. For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. Because of the house of the Lord, our God, I will seek Thy good. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord, shall flourish in the courts of our God. Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house. Lord, I have loved Thy habitation, the Place where Thy honor dwelleth. For the Lord is in His Holy Temple, let all the earth keep silence before Him. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer. O Sing unto the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth, sing praises! 1 AFFIRMATION OF FAITH 11:00AM ONLY I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. The third day He arose from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence, He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church universal, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. God has marvelous things in store for Metropolitan in our generation. We envision a church full of committed Christian disciples transforming Washington, DC, and the world through worship, liberation, and service. Prayer As you pray, please ask God to give us clear vision for our future. Who are we called to be? Who are we called to serve? Ask God to send us human and financial resources to accomplish God's mission for Metropolitan. Thank God for the vision and hope of ancestors. Pray for the generations who will continue to make Metropolitan great for God in the distant future. Fasting Fasting is about abstention from food, drink, or anything in an attempt to hear clearly from the Lord and to gain spiritual strength. If you are medically able to fast, you may choose to fast for 3 hours, 6 hours, 9 hours, or 12 hours. You may even fast for 24 hours. You may give up television, technology, or even speaking for a day. This is not about being legalistic; this is about seeking God’s help. Follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit as you fast and pray. Scripture References Mark 9:29 (NIV) 29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer. Matthew 17:21 (NIV) 21 “But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” October 2014 Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday 1 Jocelyn Harris 5 Anna Hodges 6 Laverne Goldman 13 12 Rohilda Reba Cleveland Goodluck 19 Janet Oakley Huggins 20 Deborah Bassard 26 Patricia Bradley 27 Janice Evans Thursday 2 Ouida Garvin 7 Rev.
