SELFTENE Terrace Packaging GRANTS LEED CREDITS CATEGORY CHARACTERISTICS HE SUPER ADHESIVE S SPECIAL ELASTOMERIC FOR SPECIFIC USES WATERPROOF SUPER-ADHESIVE 1 ENVIRONRMENTAL ECO GREEN ASBESTOS FREE SELFTENE Terrace is the self-adhesive membrane onto which floors can be laid directly without needing a cement screed in between, subtracting at least 4 cm thickness. SELFTENE Terrace is an elastomeric (SBS) distilled-polymer bitumen self-adhesive membrane, reinforced with a composite non-woven polyester fabric stabilised with fibreglass. It has high mechanical resistance and dimensional stability. Its lower face is spread for 40% of the surface with strips based on a special elastomeric mass, self-adhesive by simply pressing at room TAR FREE NON CHLORINE RECYCLABLE DANGEROUS EXHAUSTED FREE OIL FREE WASTE APPLICATION BY PRESSURE HOW TO WATERPROOF A BALCONY OR TERRACE, WITH A POLYMER BITUMEN MEMBRANE, WITHOUT USING A TORCH, WHERE THE THICKNESS IS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR A SCREED RENOVATING OLD FLOORS SOLUTION In new builds, upon completion it often arises that on balconies and terraces the thickness isn’t sufficient for laying a screed. The same is valid for renovations, when trying to avoid the demolition of the old floor. This is often added to the problem of laying on small surface areas in situations where using a torch is inconvenient or could damage the existing floor. temperature. It is made up of a special select bitumen mix, tackifying resins and radial and linear thermoplastic elastomeric polymers with long-lasting adhesive capacities. The strips protrude from the membrane surface and —together with the remaining 60% of the surface, which is sand-coated and nonadhesive, for a partial adhesion —create a micro air space that allows water vapour to circulate and prevent bubbles from forming when operating on damp surfaces. The adhesive mass of SELFTENE Terraceconsists of special select bitumens to keep adhesiveness unaltered for long periods during the storage phase and high adhesion APPLICATION ON OLD FLOORS OF TERRACES AND BALCONIES, WITHOUT DEMOLITION 7. End and side joins with a double coat of UNOLASTIC (or PURLASTIC FLASHING) and RINFOTEX PLUS SELFTENE Terrace is a membrane intended for single-layer under-floor waterproofing on balconies and terraces where the thickness isn’t sufficient for laying a screed or for renovations without having to demolish the existing floor and when it isn’t possible to use a torch. SELFTENE Terrace is glued in semi-independence when the laying surface is visually dry but you are uncertain that the substrate is completely dry. 3. SELFTENE Terrace 1. Concrete surface 2. Primer INDEVER PRIMER E METHOD OF USE The SELFTENE Terrace membranes adhere on the most ordinary building materials: ceramic floors, stoneware, concrete and metal surfaces. The laying surface must be smooth and flat. Porous surfaces, such as cement or brick surfaces, or an old bitumen covering must be prepared with a coat of 150÷400 g/m² ECOVER primer. During winter and/or when rainy conditions are expected, ECOVER can be replaced by a coat of INDEVER PRIMER E (250–500 g/m²) or PRIMER FIX, PRIMER U. Unroll the membrane on the laying surface aligning it at the bottom of one of the walls and cut to measure. Remove the silicone-coated film half from the lower face opposite the masonry taking care not to move the sheet and lose the alignment. Exert suitable pressure on the half of the roll where the siliconecoated film has been removed so that it sticks to the surface. Then remove the other half of the silicone-coated film from the lower face and exert sufficient pressure on the whole sheet. Lay the second sheet alongside, ensuring it does not overlap the first sheet, and repeat the operations described above. It is important to carry out a general pressing down SELFTENE Terrace on the substrate using a roller. The longitudinal join lines will be sealed with UNOLASTIC, spreading a first coat in a 15 cm strip, reinforcing with a strip of RINFOTEX PLUS of the same width across the joined sheets, and then covering this with a second coat of UNOLASTIC. Repeat this operation General pressing Siliconecoated film Removing silicone-coated film Self-adhesive strips Old tiles Spreading UNOLATIC Completely waterproofed surface with the joins at the tops of sheets, ensuring that the UNOLASTIC reinforced with RINFOTEX PLUS extends 8-10 cm on either side of the join line. When rainy conditions are expected, to make the balcony waterproof, seal all joints using HEADCOLL bitumen masCompletely waterproofed surface tic. Subsequently, when the weather conditions improve, seal all joints as outlined above. On perimeter walls, the housing for the sheet must be created by making a channel at least 4 cm deep, smoothed with plaster. The vertical parts must be spread with a coat of UNOLASTIC reinforced with RINFOTEX PLUS then covered with a second coat of UNOLASTIC across 10 cm on the horizontal sheet and vertically beyond the level of the skirting board. Then the vertical parts must be protected with plaster reinforced with RETINVETRO PER INTONACI. If it is not possible to create the vertical housing in the wall, protect the end of the waterproof covering with a structural metal weather moulding fixed mechanically to the protruding part along with the membrane and sealed at the top. The weather moulding must have a metal wing completely protecting the vertical part of the sheet up to the floor. Alternatively to UNOLASTIC, the thixotropic single-component polyurethane-bitumen waterproofing product PURLASTIC FLASHING with the same procedure. In this case the surface will be immediately out of the rain. Laying RINFOTEX PLUS Spreading UNOLATIC on RINFOTEX PLUS Laying new tiles Grouting the floor Ceramic and stoneware floors can be laid straight onto SELFTENE Terrace and UNOLASTIC (or PURLATIC FLASHING) preferably using cement adhesives modified with class C2S1/C2S2 resins according to the type of tiles to be laid. • PRECAUTIONS • Store the rolls in a dry place indoors and take them to the laying location only when about to be applied. • Polymer bitumen membranes are thermoplastic products and therefore they soften in the hottest hours of summer days whereas they harden in cold weather and the product’s adhesive power is therefore reduced. • The excellent cold behaviour of SELFTENE Terrace does not justify the laying of the self-adhesive membrane at low temperatures without precautions. Below +10°C also according to the humidity conditions of the air and the surface, particular attention must be paid during laying, if necessary using hot air heating appliances or a “light flame”. The temperature of +5°C remains the laying threshold limit. • The UNOLASTIC (and PURLASTIC FLASHING) package must be opened immediately before laying. • The minimum temperature for applying UNOLASTIC and PURLASTIC FLASHING is +5°C. • For the application warnings for UNOLASTIC and PURLASTIC FLASHING, consult the relative technical sheet. • Before laying the tiles, wait until the sealing of the butt joints and vertical overlaps made with UNOLASTIC (or with PURLASTIC FLASHING) are dry. Display on your smartphone the application instruction video PRODOTTI CHE COMPLETANO IL SISTEMA UNOLASTIC It is a creamy paste in a grey, black and burnt brown ready-to-use aqueous solution obtained by mixing special elastic synthetic resins, bitumen and quartz fillers with a high resistance to water. Ready-to-use, it does not require water or electricity therefore increasing the speed and ease of laying. Thus while being laid it is not necessary to use electric mixers and if you need to stop the application, just close the pot, to then find the product perfectly usable at a later stage. The paste obtained in this manner, once dried, features high elasticity, optimal adhesion to support and impermeability. PURLASTIC FLASHING It is a thixotropic single-component polyurethanebitumen waterproofing creamy paste. The material hardens with moisture in the atmosphere and produces a strong elastic membrane with excellent adhesion also to bituminous layers. The final film features excellent mechanical and chemical properties. RINFOTEX PLUS It is a reinforcement in 100% stabilised non-woven polypropylene fabric. Spread and encapsulate it on the waterproofing with UNOLASTIC to obtain the best waterproofing resistance characteristics. Produced in strips of 15 cm height, it is a practical and easy-to-use solution for making overlaps on walls, and for sealing joints and details. PARTICOLARI DI POSA Installing a drain 1.
